BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 Mini Cooper S, Mini Countryman S All4, X2, 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre, 2023-2025 i7, 7 Series, X7, 2024-2025 i5, 5 Series, 2023-2024 XM, X1, 2024-2025 X6, and X5 vehicles. The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss of power brake assist or cause the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems to not function properly.
Remedy: The Integrated brake system will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 21, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or Rolls-Royce customer service at 1-877-877-3735. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning August 21, 2026. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 24V739 or 24V104 will need to have the new remedy completed.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

The Integrated Brake System and Dynamic Safety Control both malfunctioned, not turning on. The car is totaled, so I don't think anything is available for inspection. There was water on the highway, and the car ended up going off the road into the grass and rolled over a few times before landing at the bottom of the ditch 100ft away. The car was not inspected because I was not aware of the major recall until I started looking into it. There was a snapshot of the DTC codes two weeks before the incident and there were codes specifically for the IB system as noted in the recall. There may have been one or two times throughout driving the car beforehand that a error light popped up, but then it disappeared almost immediately after.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 MPH through an intersection, another vehicle ran a red light and t-boned the contact's vehicle on the front passenger side to the partial front rear door. - As we were driving down a largely empty highway ([XXX] near Pollock Pines, CA), we heard an extremely loud bang. We looked back and the large rear sunroof (the non-moving one) had exploded - the glass was crazed with shatter fragments and continued to audibly crackle for several minutes. No significant sections of the glass had fallen out, but there were small splinters of glass (< 1mm in size) all over the cabin including on our 4 month old in the rear seat. - The vehicle is currently at the dealer service center awaiting service. It is available for inspection on request. As far as I know it has only been inspected by me and the dealer service representative. - The explosive sound caused a significant distraction while driving, and the glass fragments that rained into the cabin resulted in a minor injury to my hand and posed a risk of internal and external lacerations to all of us. - At no point were there any warnings prior to the explosion. Afterwards, there were also no warnings, though the problem was obvious. My 2024 BMW caught on fire while I was driving it. A couple weeks prior my dashboard went out but resolved on its own in 24 hours. Before the fire I had no other issues with my vehicle. My insurance company was notified the night of the incident. However they didn’t start the investigation for 2 weeks until after I called to get an update. I then contacted BMW who has now started an investigation alongside my insurance company.
I am requesting NHTSA assistance regarding a serious and recurring braking safety concern involving our BMW X5. We initially reported braking problems to BMW and brought the vehicle to the dealership for evaluation. We were advised that the vehicle was operating normally. Subsequently, a brake related recall was issued, and the vehicle underwent recall related service. Despite this, braking concerns continued. We again reported the problem and were advised after evaluation that the vehicle was operating properly. There were subsequent incidents involving abnormal braking behavior. During 1 incident, my wife was slowly parking the vehicle when it did not stop as expected despite repeatedly applying the brake pedal. The vehicle continued moving and collided with a wall before eventually stopping. We have also experienced abnormal brake vibration and other concerning braking behavior. Because of these repeated safety concerns, the vehicle is currently the subject of pending lemon law litigation involving BMW North America. Most recently, we returned the vehicle to the BMW dealership because of the braking and safety concerns. The vehicle remained there for approximately 4 months. We have not received a clear explanation of what diagnostic testing, inspection, repair, or corrective work was performed during this extended period. We were then informed that the vehicle was ready for pickup. When we went to retrieve it, it was covered with substantial dust and had very low tire pressure. We were unable to take it home. Our primary concern is safety. We do not know whether the reported braking malfunction was identified or corrected, what was done during approximately 4 months at the dealership, or the technical basis for releasing the vehicle for operation. We regularly transport our young children in this vehicle and are extremely concerned about driving it without knowing whether the braking problem has been properly identified and addressed. A car from the other side made an illegal left turn in front of me, and I braked very early, yet still slid into them. The car had been inspected at the time at the collision center, and had DTC codes from before repair and after repair, showing the Integrated Brake systems had failures before and after. There was no mention of the results of the inspection until I asked after another braking incident occurred two weeks later. There were moments where a light would pop up for a second, then disappear. It may have happened only once.

The contact had driven the vehicle to a dealer to have the vehicle diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed and had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,500. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH, attempting to depress the brake pedal however there was a reduction in the power assist braking leading to the vehicle crashing into another vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The front passenger side of the vehicle crashed into the rear end of the other. The crash occurred on an unstated off-ramp from a highway to a main street. The air bags were not deployed. The vehicle was drivable. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not destroyed. The vehicle was driven to a certified collision repair center and the contact received a diagnosis stating that the front bumper along with several other things needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was notified that the VIN was included in the NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V104000 (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC), SERVICE BRAKES) however, the parts was not available; the VIN was not included before the crash. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the remedy was not available. The failure mileage was 3,909.
Safety features did not work. I was parking and when brakes were pressed car accelerated instead of stopping, plowing into the car ahead and two additional cars. No automatic braking, no manual braking. The car is now in a BMW shop for repairs and evaluation. My warning features did not activate.

The parking assist feature would show the driver the vehicle's intended reverse path on the display screen, the feature then puts the vehicle into the best starting position and steers automatically into the space. The contact stated that while using the feature, the vehicle failed to stop as needed and the vehicle crashed into the back wall of her garage without warning. I am writing to formally document serious and recurring safety concerns with my Certified Pre-Owned 2024 BMW X5e, which I purchased from BMW of Sterling on XXX. On XXX I was merging onto [XXX] during morning rush hour when my vehicle suddenly lost power and shut down in the middle of traffic. The vehicle first displayed a yellow drivetrain warning indicating that I could continue driving at reduced power to the nearest service center. Almost immediately afterward, a red drivetrain warning appeared instructing me to seek service immediately. At that point, the vehicle would not restart and continued displaying the error message. Having a vehicle suddenly become disabled in the middle of a major interstate during rush-hour traffic was both frightening and extremely dangerous. I contacted BMW Assist but was transferred among several representatives without receiving meaningful assistance. VDOT ultimately responded, and the vehicle was towed at my expense to BMW of Sterling. Ultimately, I was informed that BMW of Sterling could not identify the cause of the failure or replicate the problem. I was told that BMW in Germany had been consulted and that the vehicle's electronics had been reset. When I picked up the vehicle, I specifically asked whether it had been tested in electric, hybrid, and sport modes and was told that it had. However, my BMW app indicated that the vehicle had not been charged since before I brought it in for service, which raised concerns for me about the extent of the testing that was performed. On XXX, I drove the vehicle to [XXX], for work. When I returned to the vehicle that afternoon and attempted to start it, I received the same drivetrain warning messages. After approximately 15 minutes, the vehicle eventually started normally, and I was able to drive home without further incident. I purchased my 2024 BMW X5 new at BMW Alexandria, Virginia it’s have approximately 34,000 miles . I have taken X5 into dealer warranty repairs regarding malfunction emergency call system since May 2026. Total 3 visits to dealer to resolve this issues has been unsuccessful in resolving the issues . At the moment ,‘‘quote’’from dealership below: the shop foreman has opened the TASARA CASE on the vehicle....and has sent the information to the head engineer of BMW OF NORTH AMERICA. We are waiting on a response at to what to do with the issue that we have....it may need a new HUH module . On two additional separate visits 2 TCU or TSB modules and 1 wiring harness were replaced. On 06/30/26 dashboard warning emergency call malfunction REAPPEAR AGAIN. There are numerous complaints regarding this issues online forum . BMW should take responsibility in resolving this matter maybe it’s in need of a major recall . Furthermore , defects in the emergency call system may result in loss of life / injury what the system was designed features. When I made my purchase on this X5 BMW I was believing its was reliable and trustworthy had me thinking otherwise. 7/14/26 Gotten call today from service advisor they may not be able to resolve issue and mentioned option but didn’t go into details . Afterwards received 2nd text from my service advisor case would be expedited to head engineer of BMW . Wondering what next ??
The driver's odometer and vehicle status screen intermittently blacks out, whereby not showing the speed of the vehicle and any driver warnings. It appears that this may a design issue associated to thermal events (i.e., perhaps the screen is overheating when the outdoor temperature rises to 33 C or more). I have taken my vehicle to the BMW dealership in Chandler, Arizona, so they believed reprogramming was the solution. Shortly thereafter, the screen blackout condition manifested again. I strongly suspect that this is a design safety issue. I am very concerned that BMW didn't properly validate their design nor did have sufficient thermal relieve solutions for higher than normal temperatures.
The air conditioning fan has five fan beats starting with extra low, low, medium, high and extra high. The extra low is too low, but when you turn the fan speed up to one, it becomes as loud as the highest setting often sounding way too loud where it is hard to hear anything. Causes a problem then when adjusting buttons to get it to your temperature, especially while driving on an expressway. Vehicle was taken in and looked at by the dealership, but returned with the same issue and issues have also been reported online by various owners of the vehicle.
While using the Park Assist feature on my 2024 BMW X5, the vehicle was under active system control during a parking maneuver. The system directed the vehicle in reverse and struck an object. I did not apply the accelerator. The vehicle was operating under Park Assist guidance at the time of impact. The collision resulted in damage to the rear bumper. I have reported this to BMW North America and requested a diagnostic scan to retrieve fault codes from the Park Assist module. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Park Assist system (automated parking assistance) malfunctioned during an active parking maneuver. While the system was in control of the vehicle, it directed the car in reverse and struck an object. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle moved autonomously and struck an object without driver input, resulting in a collision. A pedestrian, cyclist, or other vehicle in the path could have been seriously injured. The incident demonstrates the system cannot be trusted to safely detect and avoid obstacles while in control of the vehicle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Not yet. The vehicle is being brought to the selling dealer for a diagnostic scan to retrieve fault codes from the Park Assist module. This report is being filed prior to that inspection. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet. BMW North America has been notified. Dealer inspection is pending. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lamps or messages appeared prior to the incident. The system gave no indication of malfunction before directing the vehicle into the object.
