AS A RESULT, THE PERSON BEHIND THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK AND PINNED UNDERNEATH THE TIRES. THE VICTIM WAS FATALLY INJURED. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE GARAGE AND TRAVELED UP A THREE FOOT HIGH CONCRETE WALL BEHIND THE GARAGE WHERE IT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. WHILE MOTORING ALONG, MY WIFE AND I NOTICED AN ACRID SMELL WHICH BECAME MORE AND MORE INTENSE UNTIL OUR EYES BEGAN TO BURN AND IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THE ACRID SMELL WAS FROM OUR OWN VEHICLE, AND NOT FROM ANOTHER SOURCE SUCH AS SOME OTHER VEHICLE DRIVING AHEAD OF US. WE PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND IMMEDIATELY WE SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER-SIDE SUN VISOR WHICH WAS IS THE UP POSITION. WE SHUT THE CAR OFF AND FLIPPED DOWN THE SUN VISOR TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON, AND THE VISOR BROKE OFF AS WE DID SO. SPARKS AND MOLTEN METAL BEGAN DRIPPING FROM WIRES WHICH PROTRUDED FROM THE HEADLINER. IT WAS CLEAR BY THE AMOUNT OF SMOKE THAT THE HEADLINER ITSELF WAS ON FIRE IN BETWEEN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND THE ROOF PANEL, AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY FLAMES BURNED THROUGH THE HEADLINER MATERIAL. BY PUREST CHANCE A POLICE VEHICLE DROVE BY AT THAT MOMENT; WE FLAGGED THE OFFICER DOWN AND HE PRODUCED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER FROM HIS VEHICLE AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. THE FLAMES WERE SPREADING SO QUICKLY THAT IT WAS CLEAR THAT, HAD THE OFFICER NOT HAPPENED BY AT THAT MOMENT, OUR VEHICLE WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND THEY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TO INSURE THERE COULD BE NO FURTHER ELECTRICAL FIRE AND THAT IT WAS SAFE TO TOW AWAY THE VEHICLE. IN 2014 WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM JEEP (REAL P36) WHICH CITED A POSSIBLE RISK OF FIRE DUE TO RESISTANCE IN THE WIRING OF THE VANITY LAMP.THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED BY OUR LOCAL DEALER IN DECEMBER, 2014.

MY 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS REPEATEDLY INCURRED SEVERE PROBLEMS WITH THE TIPM (MODULE) WHICH CONTROLS THE CAR'S QUAD AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THIS CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED BY SKINNER AND DAMULIS, RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. (AT LEAST) SIX TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, AT GREAT EXPENSE - WITH NO APPARENT RESOLUTION BUT TO INCUR REPAIRS COSTS IN EXCESS OF $10,000. THE 8/6/17 INCIDENT TOO, DEALT WITH THE DEFECTIVE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM WHICH, THIS TIME, CAUSED THE REAR WHEEL TO FALL OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN. MY WIFE AND I INCURRED INJURIES, HOWEVER, THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THIS ISSUE WAS NOT RELATED. JUST TWO DAYS AGO, THE CAR'S SUSPENSION SYSTEM LIGHTED UP ON THE DASHBOARD. PICTURES WERE TAKEN, I CALLED THE AUTO DEALER, HOWEVER, I HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM THEM. IN REVIEWING FILED COMPLAINTS COUPLED WITH A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT, THIS IS ALL TO FAMILIAR, HOWEVER, CHRYSLER AND THEIR DEALERS' REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH THE FULL SUPPORT FROM CHRYSLER. NHTSA NEEDS TO RECALL THE 2011 CHRYSLER JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - OUTLAND EDITION - ASAP! TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!

THE REAR WINDOW GLASS IN THE LIFT-GATE EXPLODED INTO THOUSANDS OF SHATTERED FRAGMENTS, WITHOUT CAUSE OR WARNING IN MY NON-MOVING VEHICLE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITHIN THE LAST THREE YEARS. IT APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT THAT IS INSAFE TO THE DRIVER AND OTHERS. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING AREA AND I WAS INSIDE IT WITH MY FAMILY ON THE MOST RECENT OCCASION. THE PRIOR EVENT ICCURRED WITH MY HUSBAND STANDING OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE, AS HE CLOSED THE LIFT-GATE. I PREVIOUSLY OWNED A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FOR 11 YEARS, AND THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE OLD DESIGN OF THE REAR WINDOW GLASS. THE 2011 DESIGN HAS THE REAR WIPER AND MOTOR DIRECTLY MOUNTED ONTO THE GLASS, WHICH MAY BE THE PROBLEM. I SUFFERED GLASS CUTS AND GLASS DEBRIS INTO ONE EYE.

THIS IS FOR A 2011 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO (< 6 MONTHS OLD) THE JEEP HAD BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE ON A WARM DAY. I WENT TO GO OPEN THE TAILGATE, AND THE TAILGATE ONLY OPENED PART WAY BEFORE STOPPING. I THEN NUDGED THE DOOR OPEN SO IT WOULD GO ALL THE WAY AND THE GLASS ON THE TAILGATE EXPLODED, CUTTING TWO OF THE PEOPLE STANDING BEHIND THE VEHICLE. AT THAT POINT THE TAILGATE OPENED ALL THE WAY AND THE SPOILER AT THE TOP CAME OFF. I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHO SUBMITTED PICTURES TO CHRYSLER. BASED ON PICTURES ALONE, THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THEREFORE DENIED MY CLAIM TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT THE COMPANY CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND REQUEST THAT THEY SEND SOMEONE OUT TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAR. THEY NEVER SENT ANYONE ELSE OUT. APPARENTLY THE DISTRICT MANAGER LOOKED AT THE PICTURES AND THE DESCRIPTION OF WHAT HAPPENED AND MADE THE DECISION TO NOT COVER IT. CHRYSLER CLAIMED THEY COULDN'T OVERTURN THE DISTRICT MANAGER'S DECISION. THEY STRUNG ME ALONG FOR 2 WEEKS OVER THE PHONE TO TELL ME THIS. THERE IS REALLY NO OTHER REASON THAN A DEFECT THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS TO OCCUR. *TR

The steering column control module (SCCM) may have been built with an inadequate welded connection between the internal flexible cable (FFC) and the busbar. The faulty connection may not allow the signal from the occupant safety control (ORC) module to reach the driver's airbag module, preventing it from deploying. An airbag that fails to deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury to the driver in the event of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) cooler can be susceptible to thermal fatigue. The exhaust gases can interact with air and other hydrocarbons in the system, which can cause combustion in the inlet manifold. This can lead the vehicle to catch fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
An incorrectly fitted rear coil spring may detach from the vehicle, which could affect vehicle handling and create a hazard for following traffic. This increases the risk of accidents and injuries. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
An incorrectly fitted retaining ring in the Power Transfer Unit may cause an unexpected loss of traction and/or failure of the parking function, increasing the risk of an accident and injury. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The high-voltage battery pack can contain cells having separator damage. A damaged separator can lead to a very rapid chemical chain reaction in the battery. This can cause the battery to overheat, which can start a fire in the vehicle. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
