Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2005-2011 4Runner, Highlander, Sequoia, and Sienna, 2005-2010 Avalon and Tundra, 2006-2008 Camry Solara, 2006-2010 Highlander hybrid, 2006-2011 Rav4 and Tacoma, 2007-2010 FJ Cruiser, 2007-2011 Camry hybrid, 2009-2010 Venza, 2010-2012 Prius, 1988-1990 and 2005-2010 Camry, and 1989 and 2009-2010 Corolla vehicles equipped with aftermarket accessory seat heaters with a copper strand heating element. The electrical wiring in the seat heaters may be damaged when the seat cushion is compressed.
Remedy: SET will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the seat heaters, free of charge, and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory. The recall began on July 14, 2016. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226. SET number for this recall is SET16B.
Toyota Motor Company (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Tundra, Sequoia, Corolla, Corolla Matrix and Scion xB, 2008-2011 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2007 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2009 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2006-2011 RAV4, 2006-2010 Yaris, and 2009-2010 Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. During the manufacturing of the Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. If abnormality is found, the PWMS circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is C0M.

The affected vehicles may experience compression of the seat cushion which may damage the seat heater wiring.
Remedy: SET will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the heaters with copper strand heating elements and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory, free of charge. The recall is expected to began in January 2015. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226.
Southeast Toyota is recalling certain model year 2008 and 2010-2013 Toyota Tundra, 2010-2012 Rav4, 2012 Toyota Sequoia, 2010-2011 Toyota Corolla, 2010-2011 Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2010-2013 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2010-2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser, 2011 Toyota Land Cruiser, 2010-2013 Toyota Venza, 2010-2011 Toyota 4Runner, 2010-2013 Toyota Tacoma, 2011-2012 Toyota Sienna, 2012 Toyota Prius, 2013 Scion FR-S, 2011 Scion XD, 2011 Scion XB, and 2012 Scion TC vehicles. These vehicles were sold with labels that were outside the allowable one percent of accuracy of actual weight added. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) Number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners and provide a corrected label with instructions concerning its installation. A small group of the affected vehicles will need additonal remedies which are still being developed. The recall began on May 28, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.
Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain models interspersed through model years 2009 through 2013 as follows: model year 2009-2012 Tacoma, 4Runner, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, and RAV4; model year 2009-2010 Avalon, FJ Cruiser, and Highlander Hybrid; model year 2010-2013 model year Corolla, Sienna and Tundra; model year 2009-2013 Highlander and Venza; model year 2012 Prius V; and model year 2010-2012 Sequoia. During modification by SET to include accessories such as leather seat covers, seat heaters or headrest DVD systems, these vehicles may not have had the passenger seat occupant sensing system calibration tested. Without passing the calibration test, the occupant sensing system may not operate as designed.
Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors, and recalibrate them as necessary. The recall began on March 21, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.

Steering wheel air bag did not deploy in front end MVA
I was going about 40 mph on the Taconic Pkwy over the amvet bridge in the far left lane of the highway. Traffic was heavy and slowing down. It had st finished raining. I was hit on the rear right rear side by a F150 truck that caused me to slide into the guard rail on the left side of the road. The car spun out of control and slid three lanes and hit the guard rail on the right side of the road. Both front sides over the tail lights and the entire front were badly damaged. The side airbags activated but the front airbags failed to activate. Because of this failure I was badly injured. My head hit the steering wheel. I was not protected by the seat belt. My passenger and I had to be cut out of the vehicle. My neck sustained a dislocated disk and I still have pain going from my left shoulder, down my arm, into my hand. I suffered a permanent loss of vision in my right eye, a concussion and lacerations to my left hand and rear scalp. My iris in the right eye was severely damaged and still needs to be surgically repaired. I have suffered both physical and mental damages because of the failure of the seat belts to restrain me and the failure of the airbags to inflate.
I HIT A CONCRETE POST AT ROUGHLY 30 MPH, DEAD CENTER FRONT OF VEHICLE. THE CAR WAS TOTALLED, AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I BROKE MY NECK DUE TO THE SEATBELT HOLDING MY CHEST AND TORSO BACK ON THE SEAT, WHILE MY HEAD MOVED FORWARD, ALL THE WAY DOWN AND HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS HEAD MOVEMENT RESULTED IN A COMPLETE BREAK OF MY C2 VERTEBRAE. THIS HAPPENED AFTER ENTERING THE LARGE AREA OF A WALMART PARKING LOT FROM THE HIGHWAY.

THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK IN PLACE (STAYED LOOSE). THERE WAS NO WARNING. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WHO WAS AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.
WHILE GOING INTO A PARKING SPACE, I ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED ENTIRELY TO THE FLOOR, AND THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE. AS THE RESULT, MY VEHICLE DROPPED APPROXIMATELY 15 FEET OVER A RETAINING WALL TO A LOWER PARKING LOT LANDING NOSE FIRST ONTO THE PAVEMENT OF THE PARKING AREA BELOW. THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND THE VEHICLE ULTIMATELY LANDED ON ALL FOUR TIRES, ROLLING FORWARD UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY ENGAGING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE.
THE OPEN REAR AUTOMATIC DOOR FAILED, IMMEDIATELY CLOSING ON MY WIFE'S BACK AS SHE WAS REMOVING A BAG FROM THE REAR CARGO AREA. THE FAILURE HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING AND CAME DOWN HARD. AS THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, TOYOTA WOULD NOT REPLACE AT THEIR COST. *TR
I SWERVED TO AVOID HITTING A DEER. THE CAR WENT ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND BACK ONTO THE ROAD. THE SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR. A LARGE PIECE OF PLASTIC, AT LEAST 2FT. IN LENGTH,FLEW OFF ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE CAUSING SEVERE CUTS,LACERATIONS,AND ABRASIONS TO MY LEFT ARM - THIS REQUIRED A TRIP THE EMERGENCY ROOM AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL WHERE MY ENTIRE ARM WAS TREATED. THE VEHICLE T-BONED THE CENTER BARRIER OF THE FREEWAY. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MOST OF THE FRONT END WAS CRASHED IN AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE ENGINE AND RADIATOR WERE PUSHED FAR BACK FROM THEIR ORIGINAL POSITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND INSPECTED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY THEN BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONSENSUS WAS THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE DEEMED DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
JANUARY 16, 2017 WAS SLOWLY PULLING INTO PARKING SPACE WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED CONCRETE STOP AND SLAMMED INTO RETAINING WALL. SEAT BELT HELD ME AND AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. CAR WAS DRIVEABLE AND WAS TAKEN IMMEDIATELY TO TOYOTA DEALER TO INVESTIGATE. VEHICLE SUSTAINED $10,000 IN DAMAGE AND IS BEING REPAIRED AND THEN INVESTIGATED BY TOYOTA. VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED BY DEALER AND HAD 59,000 MILES.
AT 8:00 AM ON 7/7/2016, MY SON WAS DRIVING MY HIGHLANDER 2011 TO WORK AT 80 M/H ON ROAD 287 IN NJ. THE VIN IS [XXX]. THE CAR IN FRONT OF MY SON WAS SLOWING DOWN. MY SON WAS TRYING TO BRAKE THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN. BUT, THE ALL BRAKES STOPPED WORKING AND THE DASHBOARD SCREEN DISPLAYING A WARNING MESSAGE "BRAKE: BRAKE MALFUNCTION". MY HIGHLANDER 2011 CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF IT. MY CAR WAS JUST MAINTAINED ON 3/15/2106 AT TOWNE TOYOTA, LEDGEWOOD, NJ 07852. ALL BRAKES WERE UPDATED. MY FOOT PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN AND SINCE I HAD 2 KIDS IN THE CAR I WAS REALLY CONCERNED THAT I COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. I TRIED TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP AND HIT THE SIDE WALK. THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME OR THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED. EVEN AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN REPAIRED, THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO MALFUNCTION AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK. I APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES AND THEN SLOWLY BRAKES, SOMETIMES DOES NOT BRAKE AT ALL. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA AND THEY ARE DENYING THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG.
