MY CAR (ACURA TL 2006) CAUGHT FIRE ON 11/09/2007 AT 10:00PM CST WHILE PASSING BY A MCDONALDS DRIVE THROUGH; AT 6233 N BROADWAY, CHICAGO IL. THE MCDONALDS CASHIER FIRST NOTICED THE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE HOOD AND POINTED IT OUT TO ME. I PULLED THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT AND TRIED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE WITH MY JACKET BUT IT ONLY GREW BIGGER. A STANDING BY POLICE OFFICER NOTICED THE INCIDENT AND PULLED ME AWAY FROM THE CAR. 911WAS CALLED AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED IN 2 MINUTES. THE CAR BURNED DURING THAT TIME. THE FIREMEN WERE ABLE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. ACURA IS REFUSING TO ACCEPT THIS AS POTENTIAL DEFECT IN THEIR CAR. THIS IS CLEARLY AN EXAMPLE OF A BADLY MANUFACTURED VEHICLE THAT JEOPARDIZED MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF PEOPLE AROUND THE CAR. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THAT AN INVESTIGATION BE INITIATED AND ACURA BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS. *TR

THE POLICE OFFICER LOOKED AT ALL OF THE DAMAGE, THE TRAFFIC CONDITIONS, TALKED TO THE WITNESSES AND ENCOURAGED ME TO LOOK INTO MECHANICAL FAILURE BECAUSE IT DID NOT MAKE SENSE! THE WOMAN IN FRONT OF ME WENT BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL FOR A NECK INJURY AND MY CAR HAS APPROX 3,000+ FRONT END DAMAGE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 ACURA TL. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ITS FRONT END. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE SUPPORT BAR DETACHED FROM THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL # 05V510000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL). A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE PURCHASE DATE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 15,000. THE CONSUMER STATED ACURA IN CALIFORNIA WILL NOT PROVIDE INVESTIGATION REPORT TO CONTACT. UPDATED 08/07/07 *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ON A RURAL ROAD AFTER A RIGHT TURN, THE FRONT WHEEL HIT A POT HOLE, THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND THE SEAT BELT BECAME STOCKED. THE VEHICLE REMAINED INOPERABLE DUE TO A VEHICLE SAFETY FEATURE. NO WARNING LIGHT WERE ILLUMINATED PRIOR THE INCIDENT. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED THE POT HOLE IMPACT DEPLOYED THE SIDE AIR BAG AND ALSO STOCKED THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. THE WHOLE INCIDENT WAS DETERMINED AS AN ACCIDENT BY THE DEALERSHIP AS WELL BY THE MANUFACTURER REPRESENTATIVE IN PUERTO RICO. THE CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY ALSO DETERMINED THE INCIDENT AS AN ACCIDENT. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT WAS NOT A CONSEQUENCE OF BODY IMPACT.*AK
SINCE LEASING CAR IN APRIL 2006 THERE HAVE BEEN 10 INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION. CONCLUDING IN AN ACCIDENT 9-20-2006. COMPANY INSPECTED THE CAR FOR ONE HALF HOUR ON SEPTEMBER 27 AND COULDN'T FIND THE CAUSE. *NM
AT AROUND 8,000 MILES, I HIT A CURB HARD ENOUGH TO BEND THE WHEEL OF MY 2006 ACURA. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE WHEEL AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. 3 MONTHS AND 3,000 MILES LATER, THE WHEEL CAME OFF THE AXEL. FORTUNATELY I WAS GOING AROUND 5 MILES PER HOUR HEADED TO A STOP SIGN WHEN IT HAPPENED, OTHERWISE, IT COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL INCIDENT. THE BOLT THAT CAUSED THE PROBLEM WAS COMPLETELY SEVERED. THERE ARE MARKS ACROSS IT THAT SHOW THE WEAR ON THE BOLT OVER THE 3,000 MILES. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT HITTING THE CURB HAS CAUSED THE BOLT TO BE DAMAGED AND THAT THEY HAD SEEN IT IN ONE OTHER ACURA THAT HAD A SIMILAR SITUATION. I HAVE A SERIOUS CONCERN THAT EITHER THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM OR THE METAL USED TO MAKE THE BOLT IS SUBSTANDARD. HAD I BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE, THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. *NM
My Acura (VIN: [XXX] ) experienced a non-collision spontaneous deployment of the side airbag while the vehicle was completely stationary. There was no impact, no crash, and no triggering event. This is a serious safety defect that could have caused significant injury or loss of vehicle control had the car been in motion. This vehicle was previously included in NHTSA Recall 19V182000 involving Takata airbag inflators, but the recall repair was never completed, and the recall now shows as closed. It is unclear whether the recall was closed in error or whether the inflator or a related airbag component failed due to the unresolved safety defect. There were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms prior to the deployment. The airbag system gave no indication of a problem. The deployed components remain in the vehicle and are available for inspection. The issue has not yet been inspected by Acura because, despite opening a safety case over two weeks ago, the manufacturer has not assigned a case manager. Insurance has been notified, but no manufacturer or dealer inspection has occurred yet. Given the prior Takata recall, the incomplete repair history, and the spontaneous deployment, this failure represents a potentially ongoing safety hazard that requires immediate investigation and corrective action. I attached pictures all the way around the car so you can see where the airbags are deployed and there is no damage to the vehicle because there was no collision. The contact owns a 2006 Acura TL. The contact stated that while driving 35 MPH uphill, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was an abnormal sputtering sound coming from the vehicle. The "VSA" (Vehicle Stability Assist) and air bag warning lights illuminated, and an unknown message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, turned off the vehicle, and waited to restart the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact went to Auto Zone and was informed that the accelerator pedal sensor had failed. The contact replaced the sensor. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while the vehicle was being serviced, the contact was informed that the power steering hose was leaking. The contact was informed that the steering fluid had entered other unknown components of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact was topping off the power steering fluid reservoir every third day. The contact stated that the VSA warning light and air bag light remained illuminated. Upon investigation, the contact related the failures to NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 19V182000 (AIR BAGS), 19E068000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL), and 08V091000 (STEERING). However, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
I am the original owner of this 2006 Acura TL. I have vertical cracks on the dashboard surrounding the passenger SRS airbag system. Aside from the bad look, is there a safety issue from either the air bag deploying prematurely and/or the air bag deploying in an unsafe manner and injuring the passenger. I have researched this issue online and there are numerous complaints about this dashboard issue and possible issues with the SRS airbag deployment.
Transmission shifts down very hard, once causing the car to lose traction and skid approximately 10 feet on the highway. The car luckily regained control and I avoided collision. I have seen many other reports of hard shifting in this car.
My transmission failed at 105,000 had to pay 4500 for a new transmission, I’m sure they have had complaints about the Acura TL through 2004-2008. I am currently on my third transmission and now the new one is hard shifting already.
