INCIDENTS STARTED OCCURRING IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE OF CAR. TRUNK LID SPRINGS DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT TENSION, SUCH THAT WHEN WE OPEN THE TRUNK ON EVEN A SLIGHT HILL THE TRUNK LID MAY STAY UP FOR A FEW SECONDS, BUT SLAMS SHUT EITHER IMMEDIATELY, AFTER SOMETHING OF WEIGHT IS PUT IN THE TRUNK, OR IF A BREEZE COMES UP. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES TO MY WIFE AND ME, RESULTING IN THE TRUNK LID HITTING OUR HEAD OR SPINE WITH SUFFICIENT FORCE TO CAUSE SIGNIFICANT PAIN AND A WOUND. IF THIS HAPPENED TO A YOUNG CHILD, IT COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY. ACURA REPLACED ONE SPRING WITH A STRONGER ONE, BUT THAT HAS DONE ALMOST NOTHING TO HELP. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALER ALSO CHECKED OTHER '05 ACURA TL MODELS AND THEY DID THE SAME THING. HE ACKNOWLEDGED IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SAID HE WOULD REPORT IT TO ACURA. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO MAKE ANY FURTHER ADJUSTMENTS TO THE SPRINGS. I COMPLAINED TO ACURA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THEY HAVE HAD SIMILAR REPORTS. HOWEVER, THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE A SUFFICIENT NUMBER TO JUSTIFY A RECALL OR TO EVEN COME UP WITH A SOLUTION. THUS I AM CONTACTING YOU. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD AND APPEARS TO APPLY TO ALL 2005 ACURA TL'S (AT LEAST A REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLE AT THE DEALER). WE NOW HAVE TO HOLD UP THE TRUNK LID WITH ONE HAND WHILE PUTTING ANYTHING IN THE TRUNK WHILE ON EVEN A SLIGHT INCLINE. *JB
The contact owned a 2005 Acura TL. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the front driver's side air bag might have deployed without impact, hit the contact's face, reducing the roadway visibility and causing the vehicle to crash into the rear-end of another vehicle. The contact stated that the air bag exploded and propelled fragments, causing the driver to experience difficulty breathing. The contact was assisted out of the vehicle because the front driver's side door was damaged and could only be opened from the outside. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle was significantly damaged and pushed back, and the driver's side of the vehicle was pushed back. The contact was transported to the hospital, where he was informed that he had sustained a concussion and a laceration on the left side of the head. The contact sustained bruises on the sternum, the spectrum, and the muscles, and the contact sustained whiplash and an airbag burn on the hand. The contact also sustained soft tissue damage on the right calf and throughout the body. The other driver did not sustain injuries and was able to drive away from the scene. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and totaled. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.
ON 9/15/09, WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT IN A PARKING GARAGE AT WORK, MY 2005 ACURA TL ACCELERATED (ON ITS OWN) AND CRASHED INTO THE CONCRETE BARRIER CAUSING THE AIR BAG TO DEPLOY. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE CAR MAT WAS NOT STUCK UNDER THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS COASTING INTO THE PARKING SPACE WHEN THE CAR "TOOK OFF" AND ACCELERATED INTO THE BARRIER IN FRONT OF THE GARAGE WALL. FOR ABOUT THE LAST TWO YEARS OR SO, THE TRANSMISSION ON MY CAR WOULD REGULARLY CAUSE THE CAR TO ACCELERATE FOR A SHORT TIME RIGHT AFTER THE GAS PEDAL IS PUSHED. IT "JERKS' FORWARD WHEN GOING AT LOW SPEEDS. IT HAPPENS REGULARLY/DAILY. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF MY ACURA DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. AFTER THE ACCIDENT ABOVE, I TOLD THEM TO CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME NOTHING IS WRONG. I AM STILL WAITING FOR MY CAR TO BE REPAIRED FROM THE ACCIDENT AND I AM CONCERNED THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE IMPACT OF THE INCIDENT RESULTED IN BRUISES AND NECK AND SHOULDER INJURIES. *TR
DRIVER SWERVED TO AVOID CAR TRYIN G TO MERGE INTO SAME LANE. FRONT AND REAR LEFT TIRES HIT THE MEDIAN CURB ( APRROX 6" MAX HIEGHT). THE RIMS ARE THE STANDARD FIVE SPOKE MAGS THAT COME ON 2005 ACURA TL. IMMEDIATLEY AFTER HITTING THE CURB - AT A VERY OBLIQUE ANGLE - THE RIM BROKE. THE SPOKES OF THE FRONT RIM BROKE LOOSE FORM THE PART OF THE RIM THAT FORMS THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE. ALL 5 SPOKES BROKE IN THE SAME PLACE. THE SPPKES AND CENTER OF THE RIM STAYED BOLTED TO THE LUGS. THE TIRE AND THE REST OF THE RIM CAME LOSSE FROM THE CAR AND PASSED AHEAD OF THE CAR. WHEN THE FRONT TIRE BROKE FREE FROM THE CAR SEVERAL THINGS HAPPENED. THE CAR SETTLED DOWN ON THE SPOKES OF THE MAG RIM, THIS IMPACT SET OFF THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAGS AND CRACKED THE BRAKE CALIPER ON THE FRONT LEFT. BRAKING WAS NOT EFFECTIVE AT THIS POINT. THE CAR EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE OF ROAD. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE ACURA DEALERSHIP ( ON A FLATBED TRUCK). THE WOMAN AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US THAT THEY WANTED THE CAR TAKEN TO THEIR COLLSION CENTER SO THAT DIGITAL PICTURES COULD BE TAKEN AND FORWARDED TO ACURA. SEVERAL DAYS LATER ACURA REPLIED THAT A RIM FAILURE LIKE THAT WAS NORMAL FOR HITTING THE CURB AND THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE.*AK
My wife, [XXX] , purchased a 2005 Acura TL on [XXX]. The car was not inspected, it had a hole in the oil tank, was leaking battery acid, had broken control arms, wore out rotors, wore out brake pads, bald tires, Vehicle Stability Control disabled, no AC, cracked dashboard where the passenger air bag is located, and the alignment was so bad that the car would try to pull very hard off of the road. Toxic hot fumes entered the cockpit during my wife's drive home from the car dealership. The fumes made her feel sick and gave her a horrible headache because of the leaking battery acid and perhaps the hole in the oil tank. It's a health and safety issue that needs to be taken seriously. The used car dealership (Premium Auto Outlet Inc.) is selling vehicles to customers and are not providing them with the title. My wife paid in full, yet she had to fight to receive the title. The employees scream at there customers, including my wife and also tell them to leave the property when asking for the title and when confronted about vehicle mechanical issues. The female employee even screamed over the phone at our mechanic (Delran Auto Repair) who tried to tell the employee that the car was not is sellable condition due to the safety and mechanical problems. Please review the Google reviews and Facebook reviews for more horrible customer experiences when it comes vehicles being sold in horribly unsafe mechanical condition, withholding titles, unlawfully repossessing, screaming at customers and ignoring customer complaints. The best resolution for my wife and I would be for the dealership to pay for all of the repair bills that accrued (roughly $4K) due to the car being sold in unsafe condition and most importantly the prevention of any health and safety issues due to the selling of unsafe mechanically condition vehicles to future customers. Please investigate this issue for the health and safety of people. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2005 Acura TL. The contact stated that she had parked her vehicle and went inside a store as her children waited inside the vehicle. Her son then texted her from inside the vehicle that the alarm had gone off. Soon after the alarm went off, her daughter noticed that both white and black colored smoke began to emit from the vehicle. Her children exited the vehicle as the front end of the vehicle caught fire. Pedestrians called for the authorities and both the police and fire departments arrived at the scene. The fire was extinguished and an incident report was filed. No injuries were reported; another vehicle was damaged as a result of the fire. The vehicle had yet to be towed or removed from the scene of the incident. Prior to the failure, the contact had noticed that while driving at highway speeds, heat would emit from vents despite the A/C being turned off. Upon investigation, the contact linked her failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V091000(Steering). The dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 200,300.

TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 ACURA, AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE TIRES. THE CONTACT HAD 3 INCIDENTS WITH THE TIRES THAT WERE ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE LOST AIR DUE TO A NAIL. THE TIRE WAS REPAIRED ON MAY 6, 2006. IN JULY THE CONTACT NOTICED THE SAME TIRE WAS LOSING AIR, AND WAS REPAIRED ON DECEMBER 1, 2006. ALSO, THE CONTACT HAD THE TIRES ROTATED, ALIGNED, AND THE TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED. ON DECEMBER 31, 2006, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AND NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWING DOWN . SHE THEN ACCELERATED, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN. SUDDENLY A CLOUD OF SMOKE APPEARED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE . THE POLICE ESCORTED THE CONTACT TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE TIRE WAS BURNT, AND THE RIM WAS DAMAGED. ON JANUARY 2, 2007 ALL 4 TIRES WERE REPLACED AT THE DEALER. THE CONTACT FELT THAT ACURA SHOULD NOT USE THIS TYPE OF DEFECTIVE TIRE. *AK
While I was driving 55 mph, on the throttle, the transmission acted as it was in Neutral but all indicators verified it was in Drive. The RPMs were fluctuating during this & my car wouldn't accelerate. I was in the middle of a busy highway, the car came to a stop, I shifted it into Park, then tried to engage back into Drive with no success. In the middle of oncoming & ongoing HWY traffic, I turned the car off, back on & the car acted as if it was in limp mode. The VSA light & Triangle appeared. I had to pay get a towing service to get me & my car. It never had any transmission issues before & all of a sudden it did all of the above, erratic shifting, flare up shifts, won't move. It was then put on a diagnostic scanner which showed a code for Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid but was cleared & didn't reappear. After the car has been sitting for a while (days) you can crank it, put it into drive & it is hesitant to go & will drive ONLY for a few minutes. After the transmission heats up, it stops pulling. I have read numerous complaints, safety concerns, bulletins, etc. I am devastated & lost on what's going on with the car & what can be done. I purchased my '05 TL in 2022 & haven't been able to drive it but for one & a half years. I've put so much money into the repairs & maintenance. I replaced the rear & front motor mounts, transmission speed sensor, transmission position sensor, etc. I am now disabled & don't have the means to put into it anymore. I pray there's an investigation behind these Drive train safety concerns!
WITHOUT PROVOCATION OR SHOCK OF ANY KIND MY LEFT FRONT WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE CAR WHILE DRIVING IN THE LEFT LANE OF I-64 W NEAR NITRO WV. THE ALUMINUM WHEEL ASSEMBLY BROKE AT ALL FIVE SPOKES WITH THE CENTER STILL FIRMLY BOLTED TO THE DRIVETRAIN. UPDATED 09/08/15*LJ UPDATED 10/27/2017*CN
I LEFT MY CAR TO GET MY PHONE WHILE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE DRIVEWAY WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, TRANSMISSION IN PARKING AND DOOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE OPEN. LESS THAN 2 MINUTES LATER WHEN I RETURNED MY CAR WAS GONE. LOOKING AROUND, I SAW MY CAR AT LEAST 30 YARDS DOWNHILL FROM THE DRIVEWAY LODGED AGAINST AN F450 TRUCK. MY CAR - I ASSUME IN PARKING MODE - CLIMBED UP ON THE DRIVEWAY INCLINE, HIT A GARBAGE BIN ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD, MADE A 180 DEGREE RIGHT TURN, TRAVELING IN REVERSE DIRECTION CRUSHED IN TO THE PARKED TRUCK'S LEFT SIDE FENDER AND BUMPER (THE TRUCK WAS PARKED ON THE ONCOMING SIDE OF THE ROAD).. THE DAMAGE TO THE TRUCKS FENDER WAS A SMALL DENT AND SCRAPED OFF PAINT ON THE BUMPER. I FOUND MY CAR'S TRUNK LID SEVERELY DENTED, AND THE REAR BUMPER ALSO DENTED AND SLID TO THE SIDE. THE CRYSTAL OF THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR LIGHT ASSEMBLY BROKE. THR DAMAGETO MY CAR WAS ESTIMATED TO BE BETWEEN $3-4,000. PHOTOS OF DAMAGE ARE AVAILABLE. *TR
I REAR ENDED SOMEONE WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FREEWAY. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HAD SLOWED DOWN AFTER NOTICING THAT THE PERSON IN FRONT OF HER HAD SLAMMED ON HER BRAKES. I WAS TRAVELING AT LEAST 40 MPH AND DID NOT NOTICE THE CAR IN FRONT HAD SLOWED DOWN/STOPPED AND I REAR-ENDED HER. HER CAR HAD A LOT OF REAR BUMPER DAMAGE. MY CAR SUSTAINED THE BRUNT OF THE FORCE AND WAS DAMAGED IN THE FRONT. NO ONE WAS HURT, BUT MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, WHILE MY 2 YEAR OLD WAS IN HIS CAR SEAT IN THE BACK. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT WAS A FRONTAL COLLISION WITH EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT. THIS ACCIDENT, THANKFULLY, WAS NOT FATAL, HOWEVER COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN. THIS HAPPENED ON A VERY BUSY FREEWAY WITH CARS TRAVELING AT LEAST 65 MPH. IT ALSO HAPPENED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER A SLIGHT TURN IN THE FREEWAY, MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR CARS TO NOTICE AN ACCIDENT IN TIME TO STOP. MY CAR COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE COLLISION. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT ANYMORE (EVEN AFTER IT'S FIXED) BECAUSE I VIEW THAT CAR AS A LOADED GUN AND I'M PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE. IT'S MY PRIMARY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION AND WE USE THIS CAR FOR ANY TRAVELING WE DO. MY SON IS MOSTLY IN MY CAR (SCHOOL, ETC.). I WANTED TO REPORT THIS SO THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO OTHERS AND, GOD FORBID, BE FATAL. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THESE INCIDENCES SO NO UNNECESSARY CONSEQUENCES OCCUR AS A RESULT OF FAULTY AIRBAGS. *TR
The vehicle has been gradually leaking power steering fluid over time. I have been monitoring the fluid level and have noticed a recurring burning smell while operating the vehicle. At times, I have also observed what appears to be a very faint, clear or nearly transparent smoke or vapor that is only visible when light reflects off of it. I am uncertain whether this is smoke or vapor. The steering has not become difficult or hard to turn at this time. I am concerned that power steering fluid may be leaking onto or near a hot engine or exhaust component, causing the burning smell and possible smoke or vapor and creating a potential fire or safety hazard. The exact source and cause of the leak are currently UNKNOWN. The vehicle and affected components are available for inspection upon request.
The driver and passenger side mirror lenses will click randomly while driving on the interstate going at a relatively good speed. When these click and move, it causes a distraction and I can no longer see what’s coming next to me. I have to turn the mirror lenses back to their original position in order to view my blind spot.
