My daughter was in a car accident, and the air bags did not deploy. The Honda HR-V was totaled out. The other drivers air bags deployed. My daughter said the air bag was smoking like it tried to deploy, but never did. The HR-V collided with another car pulling onto a busy street. The car that was hit was going 35-45MPH. The HR-V had the most damage done to the front of the car. The other car has damage to the front Passenger side panel. The impact to the HR-V was on the driver's side which caused my daughter to hit her head on the driver's side window. The Vehicle is at the Insurance Company's Lot With the Air bags not deploying she was not protected in the crash. The car has been inspected by the Insurance company and they have totaled it out. The car did not have any warning lamps on prior to the accident.

Sticky Steering: Experienced a clunking sound from front drivers side steering the last two weeks. Last night while driving approximately 15mph the steering got stiff then overcorrected, veering off to the left into oncoming traffic. The car came to a rest after hitting a curb and the airbags deployed. Both injuries and damaged sustained. This is the second occurrence of the vehicle suddenly veering off to the left lane.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle the "brake" warning light had intermittently flashed on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the brake calipers were leaking fluid and the calipers were serviced. No further information was available. Later while pulling into a parking space and pressing the brake pedal, the pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle crashed into a metal fireman's latter. During the crash, the vehicle sustained severe front-end damage but no air bags deployed, the seat belt malfunctioned and did not secure the driver. The driver sustained a fractured lumbar spine vertebrae and was transported to the hospital. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failures were not determined. The local dealer was notified of the crash. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 5,000.

On [XXX] while driving on [XXX] , the driver’s airbag in my 2022 Honda HR-V suddenly deployed without any impact or collision. This created a major safety hazard, obstructing vision and forcing the driver to pull over immediately. The seat belt tensioner also engaged, restricting movement. There were no warning lights, no forward collision warnings, and no external factors that could have caused deployment. A diagnostic inspection at Larry Hopkins Honda (Sunnyvale, CA) confirmed that the vehicle’s Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) recorded NO impact prior to deployment. This exact issue aligns with Honda’s Safety Recall 24-036 (Seat Weight Sensor Defect) for the 2020-2022 HR-V, yet my vehicle's VIN is not included in the recall. Despite multiple attempts to escalate with Honda Corporate and the dealership, Honda has refused to acknowledge this as a defect or cover the repair. This is a critical safety failure that could have caused a serious accident or injury. I request NHTSA to investigate this issue, as other 2022 HR-Vs may also be at risk for random airbag deployment. This accident took place on April 19, 2022 - - ten days after I took possession of my new 2022 Honda HR-V Sport from the dealership - - sudden unintended acceleration. The facts are I came home on April 19, 2022. I drove slowly up the driveway. I stopped. I inched forward. I stepped lightly on the gas pedal. Then the vehicle suddenly accelerated without warning at high speed. The hard-hitting impact resulted in damage to the front of my vehicle. The building supplies on the driveway took the full impact of the accident. Otherwise, the vehicle could have crashed through the garage door and hit another vehicle - -likely resulting in serious injuries or death to myself and extensive property damage. American Honda denied my claim to replace ECU and repair body damage to the vehicle after examination.

I was involved in an accident where my car was totaled. The impact was on the front end. My airbags never deployed, and the Honda certified body shop that reviewed the damage said this was concerning, and based on the damage and the speed during impact, they should've deployed. There are no current recalls on HR-V airbags. I sustained some soft tissue injury/bruising across my lower abdomen from the seatbelt, as well as some soreness in my shoulder and neck from the seatbelt. My concern is that the accident could've been much worse, and the airbags may not deploy and provide the protection they're supposed to. I contacted Honda about the concern, and I'm unaware of any subsequent action on their part to mitigate this potential problem.

WHILE TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEED, THE CVT TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL PROPULSION. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AND RESPONDED TO THE ACCELERATOR, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE UNDER ITS OWN POWER. MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED, INCLUDING A BRAKE-SYSTEM WARNING. THE VEHICLE ALSO ROLLED BACKWARD ON AN INCLINE AND WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. IT WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND QUOTED APPROXIMATELY 9,750 TO REPLACE IT. THE FAILED VEHICLE/TRANSMISSION REMAINS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. BEFORE THE FAILURE, HONDA DEALER INSPECTION RECORDS SHOWED THE VEHICLE IN GREEN/GOOD CONDITION AND DID NOT ADVISE THAT CVT SERVICE WAS DUE. AMERICAN HONDA REVIEWED THE MATTER AND DENIED GOODWILL ASSISTANCE. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF PROPULSION AT FREEWAY SPEED CREATED A SERIOUS RISK OF A REAR-END OR HIGH-SPEED COLLISION.

In January 2026, at approximately 80,000 miles, the CVT in my 2022 Honda HR-V AWD experienced a major internal failure. The failure presents a safety concern because loss of CVT function can cause loss of acceleration/motive power during highway driving, merging, lane changes, or intersection crossings. The problem was confirmed by an authorized Honda dealer. Honda's HDS diagnostic system initially recorded DTC P0793. The dealer inspected/replaced the CVT drive-pully speed sensor and road-tested the vehicle. The repair did not correct the problem, and the "D" indicator began flashing. The dealer then recorded DTCs P0780 and P1899. The dealer drained the CVT fluid and documented on the repair order: "found metal debris in fluid - needs transmission." The dealer determined that the transmission required replacement. Prior to the failure, I had no warning that a catastrophic internal CVT failure was imminent. To my knowledge, American Honda did not perform a physical teardown or examination of the failed transmission beyond the diagnosis. I am concerned because Honda previously identified premature CVT belt deterioration in 2016 -2020 HR-Vs under Service Bulletins 21-046 and 21-047. Honda stated that the earlier condition could result in partial or complete belt failure and unexpected loss of acceleration and extended CVT coverage for affected vehicles to 7 years/150,000 miles. My 2022 HR-V AWD is not included in that population, and I am not claiming that my CVT necessarily failed from the identical cause. However, the dealer-documented metal debris and complete CVT failure warrant comparison with Honda's previously identified HR-V CVT condition and similar failures in 2021 -2022 HR-Vs.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda HR-V. The contact stated that after a rainstorm, the driver’s side floor was wet. The vehicle failed to start days later. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle had previously experienced a fuel pump failure. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The dealer stated that the failure might be related to the fuse box underneath the dashboard, the wiring harness, and there was corrosion from a water leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The case was later closed. The manufacturer confirmed that there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
