The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump assembly with an improved one, free of charge. Owners of specific models were notified that remedy parts were available starting January 21, 2021. Owners of other models will be notified as remedy parts become available. Fujian Wanda Automobile Glass Industry (Wanda) is recalling certain aftermarket Replacement Windshields sold for use in 2014-2018 Toyota Highlander vehicles. The windshields have an attached wire harness that water may leak into, possibly causing damage to the vehicle's Engine Control Module (ECM).
Remedy: Wanda will notify owners, and service centers will replace the windshields, and inspect the ECM for damage, having it replaced, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began January 29, 2019. Owners may contact Wanda customer service at 1-864-281-2760.
Gulf States Toyota, Inc. (GST) is recalling certain 2017 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid vehicles equipped with accessory roof rail cross bars. The fasteners for the roof rails may not be torqued properly.
Remedy: GST will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and properly torque the fasteners, free of charge. The recall began September 29, 2017. Owners may contact GST customer service at 1-800-444-1074. GST's number for this recall is 17R3.
Gulf States Toyota, Inc. (Gulf States) is recalling certain 2017 4Runner , 86, Avalon, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Corolla iM, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius C, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Sienna and Yaris vehicles. The spare tire air pressure was not adjusted to the proper pressure as stated on the Tire Pressure Label.
Remedy: Gulf States will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the spare tires, adjusting their pressure as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2017. Owners may contact Gulf States customer service at 1-800-444-1074. Toyota's number for this recall is 17R2.

Due to a software issue, the Parking Assist control unit that works with the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) to show the rearview camera image may briefly freeze when backing up if reverse gear is selected shortly after starting the vehicle. On April 5, 2026, my 2017 Toyota Highlander was involved in a side‑impact (T‑bone) collision on the front & rear passenger side. I was seated in the front passenger seat. The impact was hard enough that my insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss. During the crash, I struck my head, but no airbags deployed (front, side, or curtain). The vehicle is being released to Liberty Mutual Insurance. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. I am concerned that the airbag/SRS system may not have functioned properly in a crash severe enough to total the vehicle and cause a head injury to a front passenger. I am requesting that NHTSA record this incident and consider whether there may be a safety defect related to side or curtain airbag non‑deployment in this vehicle. THE BULKY SIDE MIRROR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN BECAUSE OF A LARGE BLIND SPOT. I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THAT VERY REASON. I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. I CHECKED FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC SEVERAL TIMES AND TURNED WHEN I SAW TRAFFIC WAS CLEAR. I WAS HIT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BECAUSE MY VISIBILITY WAS BLOCKED BY THE MIRROR AND THE ONCOMING VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN.

After exiting the vehicle, there were abnormal beeping and ticking noises detected, and the vehicle began to roll down the street. The driver has lumps and bruises on her leg and back pain, but medical attention was not provided. The rear wheels were on the curb and hit a trash can, and the vehicle stopped rolling. I had an accident on 1/14/24 and the airbags did not deploy. When we bought the vehicle from I-5 Toyota it had been in a previous accident and was repaired. I have a picture from the dash stating “ SRS air bag system malfunction” on the day of incident. The vehicle is being picked up by insurance 1/18/24 to be inspected. There were no warnings prior to the accident.
My car would randomly shut off at red lights, one time I was on a hill & thought I was going to roll back into the car in front of me. After restarting it would turn on. The radio would randomly shut off. We eventually replaced the battery. On a Fri.(Dec 17th) my car would not start, so my Husband drove the kids & I to school, upon my return the car started. He told me the wheel locks & I need to move it. Then on Mon. (Dec 20th) driving my daughter to preschool school…I have video from home camera showing your system will not let me attach a video) …my car stalling as I reversed out of the driveway. I loose all control, then you hear that I pulled the emergency break & stop just before two cars pass by. I then restart the car, it goes, I drive 3 houses down I pressed the break to make a left turn onto a side street, my car accelerated & smashed into a telephone pole on the drivers side. You can hear the crash on my home camera. The impact was so hard, it bent my a frame, my airbags did not deploy, my drivers side door would not open. I shifted the pole & cracked the frozen dirt ground around it as seen in the pics. I can provide a copy of the body work repairs. We paid our $1k deductible. I WAS IN A REAR IMPACT COLLISION IN MY HIGHLANDER. MY VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ON A HIGHWAY, HAVING STOPPED TO AVOID A COLLISION, AND WAS HIT FROM BEHIND AT A RELATIVELY HIGH RATE OF SPEED (ESTIMATED 55-65 MPH). MY CAR WAS PUSHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF IT WHICH CAUSED A CHAIN REACTION WITH SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES. IMMEDIATELY AFTER IMPACT I BEGAN TO FEEL NECK AND BACK PAIN AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. PRIOR TO TRANSPORT, WE NOTICED THAT MY HEADREST HAD BROKEN FREE IN THE IMPACT AND WAS LAYING ON THE BACK FLOORBOARD.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF GREENSBURG (4964 US-30, GREENSBURG, PA 15601 (724) 552-2761) WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING RESULTS FOUND NO FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN INSPECTOR FROM THE MANUFACTURER TOYOTA WAS TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, NO FINAL REPORTS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE INSPECTOR STATED THAT HE WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING CALL BACK FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,000.
ON SATURDAY APRIL 27 AT 2 PM I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND WAS GETTING OUT. THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS AND AS I WENT TO REACT WAS KNOCKED DOWN AND PINNED UNDER THE FRONT LEFT TIRE OF THE CAR. MY THREE CHILDREN WERE IN THE BACK WATCHING THEIR MOTHER LYING ON THE GROUND HELPLESS AND SCREAMING FOR HELP. THANK GOD TO GOOD SAMARITAN'S THEY LIFTED THE CAR OFF OF ME WHILE I WAITED FOR THE EMS TO ARRIVE. SEVERAL WITNESSES SAID THE CAR WAS IN FACT IN PARK AND THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. I AM SEVERELY SORE AND INJURED AND THIS SHOULD NOT EVER HAPPEN. THIS HAPPENED ON HYLAN BLVD. PARTY CITY IN STATEN ISLAND NEW YORK.
THE DRIVER'S SEATBELT IS NOT ERGONOMICALLY PLACED, AND REACHING UP, BACK AND PULLING FORWARD WITH MY LEFT ARM TO ATTACH THE SEATBELT HAS DAMAGED MY LEFT SHOULDER (SEVERE TENDINITIS AND A PARTIALLY TORN ROTATOR CUFF). TO DATE PHYSICAL THERAPY HAS NOT RESOLVED THE ISSUE AND I MUST RETURN TO THE ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON FOR FURTHER EVALUATION.

THE NEW HEADREST REQUIREMENTS ARE CAUSING THE MANUFACTURERS TO PRODUCE VEHICLES THAT THE END USERS ARE HAVING TO MODIFY, OR SET THE SEATS AT AN ANGLE THAT INCREASES THE LIKELIHOOD OF INJURY IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS TRUE OF MOST NEW VEHICLES. PLEASE REVISE THE NEW REGULATIONS.
My vehicle lost power while driving on the interstate. I pulled over and smoke started coming from under the hood. Flames then started approximate 10-20 seconds later. Flames consumed the vehicle for a total loss. My insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss. Toyota stated they are investigating the issue. The police and fire department were present. The loss of power happened with no warning. There was a brief flash of the check engine light followed by a low power mode warning. I had just pulled over off of the interstate. This happened within 30 seconds of the vehicle catching on fire.
