Due to an incorrect marking, the connecting system may have been fitted to the wrong vehicle. In the event of a rear-end collision, the connecting system can come into contact with the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU). This creates a risk of short-circuit in the high-voltage grid, potentially leading the vehicle to catch fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

MY ELDERLY MOTHER DIED IN A FIRE IN HER 2014 HONDA CR-V. THERE WERE NO WITNESSES TO THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE. THE CAR WAS FIRST SEEN WHEN FULLY ENGULFED BY FLAME, 10 TO 20 MINUTES AFTER MY MOTHER WAS SEEN GETTING INTO HER CAR. UNKNOWN IF SHE LET IT IDLE BEFORE DRIVING. SHE DROVE ABOUT 1200 FEET. HER CAR WAS FOUND IN WET IVY AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HER KEY WAS IN HER HAND, AND SHE WAS LEANING TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR, APPARENTLY TRYING TO ESCAPE THE FIRE. (BECAUSE THE CAR WAS ON A HILL, LEANING TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE, FLAMES FROM BENEATH THE CAR WERE STRONGEST ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND WOULD HAVE BLOCKED HER EXIT. THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS NOT COMPLETELY BURNED.) IT IS IMPROBABLE THAT THE IVY IGNITED BECAUSE IT WAS LATE FALL IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND THE WEATHER HAD BEEN VERY WET FOR DAYS. I BELIEVE THAT A FIRE IGNITED SOMEWHERE IN THE VEHICLE AND THIS FIRE CAUSED MY MOTHER TO GO OFF THE ROAD. AN AUTOPSY SHOWED SHE DIED OF SMOKE INHALATION AND BURNS. THE CAR WAS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH RECENT SERVICING. NO SIGNS OF RECENT OIL LEAKAGE IN GARAGE. WE HAVE LOCATED OTHER 2012-2014 CR-V FIRES THAT BEGAN SPONTANEOUSLY. SOME BLAMED ON LEAVES TRAPPED IN VEHICLE, ANOTHER ON FLUID LEAKS, INCLUDING TWO ON SAFERCAR.GOV. (NHTSA NOS. 10654938 AND 10546273). I RETAIN THE VEHICLE. ## VIN PASSED ## HONDA CRV 2014 ##

I own a 2014 Honda CR-V. Since around November 2022 I have repeatedly experienced an intermittent “bounce” or shudder when accelerating, especially around 20–25 mph and sometimes at higher speeds (around 45 mph and above). The vehicle feels like it briefly loses power or slips before catching again, and the check-engine light has come on and off during this period. I took the vehicle to Stockton Honda (CA) multiple times and consistently reported this bounce/shudder on take-off. Each time, the focus was on brakes, rotors, tires, or other maintenance items. I was never told there might be an engine or timing-chain issue or that the vehicle could be unsafe to drive. The bounce/shudder never went away. I have also been involved in multiple low-speed collisions while taking off from a stop in the past few years, and I am concerned that this hesitation/loss of power may have contributed. In late 2025, Honda of Elk Grove performed a full diagnostic, retrieved a P031 code, and told me the most likely cause is a timing-chain problem. I was advised that the vehicle is not recommended to be driven until the timing chain is replaced because the engine could be severely damaged or fail while driving. The technician refused to take the car on the freeway due to safety concerns. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA is aware that a possible timing-chain defect or failure in 2014 Honda CR-V vehicles can present as a bounce/shudder at low speeds during acceleration, with potential loss of power and increased risk of rear-end collisions, and that this condition may be missed or misdiagnosed by dealers for an extended period.

JUNE 26, 2014 TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING EAST DOWN HIGHWAY 55 AT AROUND 8A.M. ON JUNE 23, 2014. A DEER CAME OUT QUICKLY FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CAR AND HIT OUR NEW HONDA CR-V. THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS QUITE CAVED IN AND MY AIRBAG DEPLOYED. I WAS IN THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. MY HUSBAND'S AIRBAG DID NOT. HE HIT THE STEERING WHEEL WITH HIS SHOULDER. WE WERE QUITE SHOOK UP AND SORE AFTERWARD. THE OFFICER THAT CAME TO FILE THE REPORT MENTIONED THAT HE WAS SURPRISED THAT THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG DID NOT GO OFF AND THAT IN ORDER TO MOVE THE CR-V HE SUGGESTED WE TOW IN CASE THE AIRBAG WOULD STILL GO OFF. THIS SITUATION HAS MADE US QUITE NERVOUS ABOUT DRIVING THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE BECAUSE THE AIRBAG DID NOT GO OFF. WE WOULD APPRECIATE HONDA INVESTIGATING THIS MATTER. WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A VEHICLE THAT IS EQUIPPED PROPERLY SHOULD WE BE IN A COLLISION. AND WE ARE CONCERNED THAT WITH THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE THAT IS NOT THE CASE. PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT STEPS NEED TO BE TAKEN NEXT, SO THAT WE CAN MOVE FORWARD. SINCERELY, *TR

The contact owned a 2014 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH on a two-lane road, the contact pressed the brake pedal to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front. The contact indicated that when pressing the brake pedal, the driver's air bag erroneously deployed, causing the driver to lose control of the steering and crash into a guardrail, where the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle in front was not crashed into and left the scene after witnessing the crash into the guardrail. The contact sustained severe facial and oral injuries along with a concussion, chest and arm bruising, which required medical treatment. A police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The contact was also concerned that metal fragments may have exploded from the air bag deployment. No additional information was available. The failure mileage was 70,000.

I was in a major car accident. My Honda CR-V air bags did not deploy. Due to the accident I have a neck and back injury. My insurance company has declared my vehicle a total loss. Millions of Americans are driving Honda CR-Vs and due to air bag failure their lives are at risk in the case of a collision. I have called Honda and asked them to investigate the failure of their air bags deployment. They have refused to do so. I am requesting the NHTSA investigate Honda CR-Vs air bag malfunction and help to save many Americans lives. TAKATA RECALL - AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY - I WAS TRAVELING WEST ON THE US 60 FREEWAY IN MESA, ARIZONA AND WAS DRIVING IN THE RIGHT LANE OF A 4 LANE FREEWAY, TRAVELING 65 MPH. A CAR DRIVEN BY A YOUNG LADY, REALIZED THAT SHE MISSED HER EXIT AND CAME FROM THE CAR POOL LANE, ON THE FAR LEFT SIDE TO TRY AND GET OFF ON AN EXIT CALLED DOBSON ROAD. ACCORDING TO THE WITNESS STATEMENTS SHE HAD TO SPEED UP TO PASS EVERYONE TO TRY AND GET OFF ON THE EXIT SHE WAS GOING TO MISS. AS SHE CUT ACROSS, I JUST HAPPENED TO BE DRIVING PAST THAT EXIT AND WHILE SHE WAS GOING 75 TO 85 MPH, SHE HIT ME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. AT THE LAST SECOND, I NOTICED SOMETHING OUT OF THE CORNER OF MY LEFT EYE AND TURNED MY HEAD AND THAT IS WHEN SHE HIT ME. THE NEXT THING I REMEMBER IS TRYING TO GET OUT OF MY CAR, BUT I COULDN'T BECAUSE THE DOOR WAS SMASHED IN, RIGHT WHERE THE HINGES ARE. SHE HIT ME IN A STRONG PART OF THE DOOR. EVIDENTLY, AFTER SHE HIT ME HER CAR PUSHED ME INTO THE WALL OF THE ON RAMP. I DON'T REALLY REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN THE TIME I TURNED MY HEAD, UNTIL THE TIME I WAS TRYING TO GET OUT, TO NO AVAIL. THE SIDE AIRBAG AND THE FRONT AIRBAG NEVER WENT OFF. THE AIRBAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, THE SIDE THAT HIT THE WALL, DID GO OFF. I AM LUCKY THAT THE CAR DID NOT ROLL OVER, BUT I THINK IT WAS THE WALL THAT PREVENT THAT, BECAUSE THE WHEELS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WERE AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE FROM SLIDING SIDEWAYS. I SUFFERED WHIPLASH, OF COURSE AND MY NECK AND BACK ARE STILL NOT RIGHT. I HAD TO GET STEROID SHOTS IN MY BACK TO BE ABLE TO GO TO WORK BECAUSE I STARTED A NEW JOB. I HAD A CONCUSSION AND STILL GET HEADACHES, AND I TORE MY LEFT ACL, WHICH HAS BEEN REPLACED AND NOW THE ONLY WAY TO REPAIR IT IS TO HAVE A KNEE REPLACEMENT. I AM STILL NOT OKAY AND I KNOW THAT A BIG REASON FOR MY SEVERE INJURIES DUE TO AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING. ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON 10/7/16 AND I'M STILL SUFFERING. *TR

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, WE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND IT APPEARED THAT THE CAR ACCELERATED. TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF US, WE TURNED TOWARDS THE SHOULDER AND UP A SMALL HILL. WE HIT A TREE ON THE SMALL HILL THAT CAUSED THE CAR TO FLIP UPSIDE DOWN. POLICE AND EMS RESPONDED TO THE SITE OF THE ACCIDENT TO REMOVE US FROM THE CAR AND EVALUATE/TREAT US FOR INJURIES.
