The steering gearbox assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can cause excessive internal friction and lead to difficulty steering the vehicle.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the worm gear spring and redistribute or add grease as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 18, 2024. Owners may contact Honda Customer Service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are SJS, MJU, QJT and VJV.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Civic 4-door and Civic 5-door vehicles that received a replacement power steering rack as part of a service repair. The steering rack may have been incorrectly assembled, which can allow the tire to chafe against the lower suspension or tie rod end, possibly resulting in tire damage.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the electric power steering rack, as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed January 16, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is YFW.

Honda sitting stopped in traffic, was rear-ended by a vehicle traveling about 40-45 MPH and was pushed into the vehicle in front, air bags did not deploy.
Prior to receiving official recall repair instructions, I experienced sudden and unexpected issues with the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system. These issues resulted in a loss of steering control, which caused my vehicle to become involved in an accident [XXX]. This incident not only caused significant damage to my vehicle but also resulted in personal injuries for which I am still recovering. Because the recall repairs were not yet completed at the time of the accident, I was forced to pay out of pocket to repair certain parts that I didn’t know was due to the recall. I have incurred expenses that I should not have been responsible for, as these failures are explicitly recognized by Honda and the NHTSA as safety defects. I contacted Honda. I have a case number Case [XXX]. I was informed to submit documents for any pieces that I did have to buy. did that for about one month after that I was informed that they will not reimburse me for any damages that was correspondence Accident as I have a lot of damage to the front passenger side of my car as I ran into the cement barrier on the highway. Before this accident, I did not have any warning, lamps, messages or symptoms problems with my car. Not sure how I will pay for all these repairs. I contacted Honda to see if I can get the recalls done, but I still have damage to my vehicle due to the accident cause by recall, I did not know there were two recalls to my vehicle until after the accident, I took it to the mechanic and he let me know there’s an issue with my rack. I need to go contact Honda. I would like to know who will reimburse me or pay for the bodywork that I need time to my vehicle. entering [XXX] heading to Jersey City from Bayonne. On Sunday, December 14, 2025, I was driving a 2022 Honda Civic Sport with my wife in the passenger seat when the vehicle’s driver-assist/steering system unexpectedly intervened and caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway and down a steep embankment (approximately 40–50 feet) without driver input. I attempted to correct the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to respond as expected. There was no intentional steering command to leave the roadway. The vehicle appeared to steer itself, resulting in a crash. Both occupants sustained injuries. I suffered a neck/collarbone injury and a concussion. My wife suffered a concussion, a large laceration to her outer right calf, and bruising. Medical treatment was required and was sought at urgent care. After the incident, warning indicators were present on the dashboard. I later became aware that this model year has known complaints and recalls related to steering, lane-assist, or driver-assist system malfunctions. These issues were not disclosed at the time the vehicle was purchased used from a dealership. This appears to be a serious safety defect that poses a risk of injury or death to drivers and passengers. The vehicle is currently unsafe to operate.
While driving steam started to appear from the engine bay. I pulled over to inspect, lifted up the hood and could hear the fuel line popping and gasoline hissing out. The engine bay spontaneously caught fire. As it ignited all of the gasoline in the air combusted and created a ball of fire in my face as I was looking in the engine bay. The fire was put out by the fire department. An incident report was created. The potential for safety risk was high and could have been worse if I was not on a road where I was able to stop or if it caught fire while I was inside the car. The vehicle has been inspected by Insurance and confirmed to be a total loss. Since nothing was left to visually inspect of the car their investigation came back nonconclusive as to the cause. There were no indication lights that there was anything wrong with the engine.
On 4/4/2024 i filed a complaint about my sticky steering. Today 4/15/2024 about 10 minutes into my drive my tpms light came on. 10 seconds later my car wobbled a bit but it kinda felt like my sticky wheel so i thought i was ok. About 10 seconds after the wobble it did it again only harder this time. The steering wheel got locked at the 10 position and made me smash into the concrete highway barrier.
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at 56 MPH, the steering wheel independently shifted to the left as the contact lost control of the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact swerved back and forth in an attempt to regain control of the vehicle; as a result, the contact hit several highway median divider poles. The air bags did not deploy during the failure. The contact sustained minor back and shoulder pain but did not seek medical attention. A police report was filed. Upon inspection of the vehicle, the contact discovered that the rear passenger side tire was damaged and had leaned inward toward the axle. Despite the failure, the contact managed to drive the vehicle home at a low rate of speed. The next day, the vehicle was towed to an independent body shop to repair the front-end damage to the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V704000 (Steering). A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
My car locked up the steering and then I hear a random noise and I don't have control of it so I almost crash into another car, but was able to move over into a stop sign so my front bumper got hit and I already took it into a shop to do a replacement bumper.
As driving down the interstate. My car was on adaptive cruise as well as lane assist. It was like a nightmare! The car took total control. Throwing me from right to left to right to left and finally into a concrete barrier. The vehicles suspension on the drivers side both front and back failed. It was a nightmare you could not wake up from. I could have easily rolled the car over. And easily hit other vehicles. No warning lights or anything was on before the incident.
While traveling home on a paved county road, I was approaching an intersection where the current road I was on makes a right hand, 90 degree, turn and comes to a stop sign where the road adjoins another highway. Approximately 350 ft prior to where the road turns right and comes to the stop sign, I turned off my cruise control in preparation of slowing down and navigating the right had turn. At this time, I noticed that I was unable to move my steering wheel in either left or right direction. The steering seemed very stiff or sticky. I focused my attention inside the vehicle, looking for any lights or indications as to what was taking place in an attempt to regain control of the vehicle. I was unable to regain control of the vehicle and the vehicle continued straight, unable to navigate the right turn. While exiting the road, I contacted a right turn arrow sign and proceeded through the grass and down a slight hill. Although the steering was very stiff, I was able to navigate the vehicle slightly right. I came in contact with an embankment at the bottom of the slight hill. This embankment leads up to the highway that I would have been stopping at if I had been able to make the right turn and come to the stop sign. My momentum carried me up the embankment and across the highway. The vehicle finally came to a stop in the ditch on the opposite side of the highway that I had crossed. I'm simply reporting this incident to the NHTSA because I feel there needs to be a sense of awareness brought to this issue. Since my accident, I have read cases of this same occurrence on the '22 and '23 Honda Civics. I suffered injuries in this accident and my car was considered a total loss by my insurance.
The Collision Mitigation System has spontaneously engaged 4 times with no obstacles in front or to the side of my car. 3 incidents were on city streets with a low rate of speed. The 4th incident happened on the freeway at about 65MPH! I had no vehicles in front of me or to the side of me but I had several behind me. The car came to a screeching halt on the freeway with a truck behind me. Thankfully the truck was far enough behind that he was able to maneuver around me. I was able to get the car going and pulled over to the shoulder of the freeway and threw up because I thought for a moment that I might die if the truck had slammed into me. It was very close and the truck driver was pretty angry as he passed. There were no obstacles in any of the 4 instances. I asked about the issue during the next routine tune up but was told they couldn't replicate it and no codes from the car. It's happened 4 times since June 2021 when I bought the car brand new from the Honda dealership. I'm scared to get on the freeway now after that last incident. They can't replicate it they said - so now what do I do with a car I can't rely upon to be safe?
I just got this Car from the dealership. Took it on to the road. The Rear Passenger side tire blew-out and I lost total control of the Car.. I could have died. The tire sidewalls separated from the rest of the tire. The service center says that it is manufactured defect that caused the problem. I need assistance ASAP.
The 2022 Honda Civic (Sport) with approx. 13,000 miles had been driving fine for the previous 10 minutes, on and off the highway, when I was almost home and on a more residential 25-30mph road. All of a sudden all of the warning lights went off on the dashboard at once, so I went to brake to slow down and pull over. But the brakes were completely failing - the pedal would just hit the back of the foot well. The emergency brake is electronic, so that wouldn't work either. I was lucky to be immediately next to a grocery store parking lot, so I roll into that. As soon as I make the turn flames began shooting out from under the hood, reaching maybe 6" up the windshield. This is only 5 or 6 seconds after the warning lights had started, and it was clear that the fire inside of the engine bay was substantial. I managed to coast to the back of the parking lot, away from other cars and people, and found a curb "island" that I could run into in order to stop the vehicle. I effectively crashed the car, and at this point the flames had increased. I ran out of the vehicle and shouted for people to call 911. Within a minute the entire front half of the car was engulfed in 10+ foot flames. The fire department showed up a minute later and put out the fire, and after only maybe 3 minutes maximum the only things left in the car were metal and wires. The dashboard was entirely gone, seats were just their metal frames, etc. If the door had been jammed I would have burned alive.
On a recent outing, I began to smell smoke and assumed it was from a nearby brush fire. In less than a minute after I first smelled smoke my vehicle began to shake. Suddenly my warning lights flashed and a puff of smoke came out from my hood near my windshield. I lost power in my vehicle as well as my steering and braking ability. Fortunately I was able to pull to the side of the road, at which point flames began to shoot out from the hood. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames and is now a total loss.
I was in an accident due to the recall. I paid for the steering rack replacement as Honda dealership refused to replace it. I need reimbursement for replacing this part
