BOUGHT CAR IN DEC 2017. JULY 8, 2018, CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE DRIVING. NO ISSUES BEFORE THIS EVENT. NO WARNING, CARE JUST WENT UP IN FLAMES STARTING FROM UNDER THE CAR/THE ENGINE. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON OTHER MODELS OF HYUNDAI CARS, BUT THEY DO NOT INCLUDE HYUNDAI TUSCONS. I THINK THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED BEFORE SOMEONE LOSES THEIR LIFE DUE TO THIS CAR.

WITHIN 24 HOURS OF HEARING KNOCKING AND TICKING IN MY ENGINE (WITH NO CODES OR SIGNALS SHOWING ANY ISSUES) THE ENGINE FAILED. THE NOISE COULD BE HEARD CONTINUOUSLY AT ANY SPEED FOR 24 HOURS. ONCE THE ENGINE FAILED WHILE I WAS TRYING TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 4 YEARS AND IT'S AT 103,000 MILES WITH CONSTANT OIL CHANGES AND NO OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TUSCON. IN FACT, IT HAS BRAND NEW OIL IN THERE NOW. THERE IS A RECALL OF THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SONATA, SANTA FE, AND OTHER KIA VEHICLES BUT NONE FOR THE TUSCON. TUSCON NEEDS TO BE INCORPORATED INTO THIS RECALL AND COVERED BY HYUNDAI. HYUNDAI IS INVESTIGATING THE ENGINE AND OIL PAN AREA NOW. RESULTS ARE PENDING.

ON SUNDAY I WAS AT A FLAT DIRT LOT AT A BOAT RAMP... AFTER MY FISHING TRIP I HOPPED INTO THE CAR PUT IT IN REVERSE... BACKED OUT OF MY SPOT CAREFUL TO LOOK BEHIND AT ALL THE TRAILERS AROUND ME... STOPPED AND SHIFTED INTO DRIVE... THE BACKUP CAMERA TURNED OFF AND THE D LIT UP ON THE DASH... I STEPPED ON THE GAS AND THE CAR WENT IN REVERSE... RIGHT INTO AN EMPTY TRAILER I HAD BEEN SO CAREFUL TO AVOID IN THE FIRST PLACE. THANKFULLY NO DAMAGE HAPPENED TO THE TRUCK TOWING THE TRAILER OR THE STEEL FRAMED BOAT TRAILER ITSELF, BUT I HAVE A LARGE DENT IN THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE BUMPER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD IT ALL DAY ON TUESDAY AND COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. SO BASICALLY I AM STUCK WITH A LARGE DENT AND NO FIX... THEN THIS MORNING (FRIDAY) I BACKED OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AT HOME... AGAIN A FLAT LOT ONLY THIS TIME ITS PAVED... AND AFTER SHIFTING INTO DRIVE IT AGAIN WAS STUCK IN REVERSE... I HAD TO STOP PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THEN SHIFT TO DRIVE TO GET IT TO WORK. SUPER FRUSTRATING!!!! THIS CAN POTENTIALLY BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF SOMEONE IS BEHIND THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENS AND THE BRAKES AREN'T APPLIED FAST ENOUGH.

On 10/13/25, I was driving on a state hwy & lost all power. All of my warning lights came on. I managed to pull into a driveway & when I tried to start it, puffs of smoke were coming from under the hood. I got it to my mechanic & he said my starter was burnt up. He replaced the starter & discovered that my engine is seized up. It was a scary incident especially driving on a busy state highway. It put my life & others lives in danger. There were no warning lights on prior to this. I acquired the vehicle in February from a car lot. I have had it serviced regularly.

While driving at approximately 70MPH on the highway, my 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited suddenly locked up with no warning lights, no noise and no prior symptoms. The engine completely seized, causing immediate loss of power. I was barely able to coast off the highway exit to a final stop on the feeder shoulder, in a desolate area. The vehicle has always been properly maintained and is in excellent condition. Upon research, I learned that Hyundai has known of internal engine defects caused by metallic debris left from manufacturing since 2010, which can cause bearing failure and engine seizure. My Tucson's failure matches the same pattern described in Hyundai's Theta II engine recall and warranty extension campaigns. This sudden failure created an extremely dangerous situation at highway speed and possibility of injury while being stranded on an open road. Many owners, myself included, were never properly notified of the risks. I am filing this report because this incident represents a serious safety defect and potential recurrence among similar vehicles that may not yet be covered by recall. I respectfully request that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigate this issue and ensure Hyundai expands its recall and warranty coverage to include affected 2014 Hyundai Tucson Limited vehicles exhibiting this defect that was well-known to the Hyundai Corporation. Date of Incident: October 23,2025 in Houston Texas. Vehicle towed to Hyundai dealer which diagnosed Engine Seized and currently awaiting Warranty Extension Approval (TXXC/TXXI)
