I was driving approximately 55mph 10/22/2024 on a two-lane roadway in my 2009 Jeep Wrangler X (VIN: [XXX] ) when another vehicle pulled out in front of me. I struck that vehicle in a frontal collision. The force of the impact caused my Jeep to ride up and over the vehicle, enter the opposite lane of travel, and roll over a second vehicle before continuing to roll down the road. Despite the high-speed frontal impact and subsequent rollover, none of the airbags in my vehicle deployed, including the driver frontal airbag. The other vehicles involved in the crash did experience airbag deployment. The crash resulted in significant vehicle damage, including roof deformation consistent with rollover forces. Given the severity of the impact and rollover, I believe the airbags should have deployed. The failure of the airbag system may have contributed to the injuries I sustained. MY 2009 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED X WAS STRUCK AT APPROXIMATELY 35MPH ALMOST HEAD ON. ON A CITY STREET MOVING STRAIGHT. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THIS JEEP HAS HAD AT LEAST THREE CLOCK SPRINGS REPLACED AND IS ON A CLOCK SPRING WARRANTY FOR LIFE. THE JEEP HAD NO SIGNS CLOCK SPRING FAILURE PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT I.E. AIRBAG LIGHT NOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. ALTHOUGH WEARING SEATBELTS MY FACE STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL AND I WAS INJURED.*DT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A HEAD BUMP, BUT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO THE DEALER'S COLLISION BODY SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
FIRST TIME FILLING THE TANK UP, AND OUT OF NO WHERE GAS EJECTED OUT ON TO ME AND WOULD NOT STOP. I HAD TO GRAB THE GAS NOZZLE OUT TO GET IT TO STOP. I WAS COVERED IN FLAMMABLE GAS, SMALL PUDDLES ON THE GROUND AND THE GAS THAT I COULDNT GET OFF THE PLASTIC BUMPER AND FENDER, RUINED THEM. NOT TO MENTION WAISTED $5 IN GAS AND EMBARRASSED WHEN I HAD TO TELL THE MANAGER OF THE SPILLED GAS.
VIOLENT SHAKE THAT MADE ME FEEL LIKE THE JEEP WAS GOING TO FALL APART...EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE...THIS HAPPENED ALL OF SUDDEN...I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN...CHRYSLER NEEDS TO DO A RECALL SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 15 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE LESS THAN A YEAR AGO....IT DOES IT EVEN AT 55-60 MILES PER HOUR... I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL MECHANICS TO BE FIXED...JOINTS, BARS, SHOCKS, AND TIRES HAVE BEEN CHANGED NUMEROUS TIMES AND IT CONTINUES TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. *TR
FUEL FLASHES FROM FILLER NECK AT EVERY FUEL UP. I'VE COVERED BY IT A FEW TIMES, AND HAD TO CLEAN UP FUEL AT 1 STATION. *TR
VEHICLE WILL SPIT BACK FUEL WHEN PERFORMING A FILL UP (AT TIME OF FILLING.). THE FUEL FORCEFULLY SHOOTS OUT OF THE REFUILING ACCESS POINT. AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT SPITS BACK IS CONDIDERABLE (THE BETTER OF A PINT;) ENOUGH TO COVER THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE REAR BUMPER (AS WELL AS ON MYSELF) AND WILL LEAVE A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF FUEL ON THE PAVEMENT AT THE GAS STATION. I WILL POINT OUT THAT I NEVER TOP OFF THE TANK. I SIMPLY FILL UNTIL THE FUEL NOZZLE STOPS - A NORMAL WAY OF FUELING. THE "SPIT BACK" OCCURS WITHIN 1-2 SECONDS AFTER FUEILING IS COMPLETED. I HAVE CHECKED WITH CHRYSLER, AND THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. IN FACT, A TSB (14-001-11) AS WELL AS A WARRANTY EXTENSION WAS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE THE EXTENSION WAS ONLY ISSUED FOR 2007 AND 2008 MODELS. MY MODEL (2009) IS THE SAME VEHICLE, HOWEVER, I AM NOT BEING AFFORDED (BY CHRYSLER) THE SAME CONSIDERATION SIMPLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY MODEL YEAR EXCEEDS 2008. I VIEW THIS AS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THE FACT THAT I AT MANY TIMES, I HAVE MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICL WHEN I NEED TO FUEL UP. I TRULY FEEL THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RECTIFIED FOR THE 2009 MODEL YEAR, AND FURTHER BELIEVE THAT I SHOULD BE AFFORDED THE SAME BENEFIT TO HAVE THIS FIXED AT NO CHARGE - AS I AM EXPERIENCING THE IDENTICAL ISSUE. AGAIN, THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS IT REALLY IS A SAFETY ISSUE. 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. CONSUMER WRITES ON BEHALF OF HIS WIFE WHO WAS INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE MADE A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF HER. RIGHT AFTER THE IMPACT, THE JEEP REMAINED IN DRIVE AND CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ALSO IGNITED, RESULTING IN A FIRE *TGW AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A HALT, AND A FIRE RETARDANT WAS APPLIED TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAME, AS THE JEEP WAS BEING SET UP FOR TOWING, THE FIRE RE-IGNITED AND CAUSED ADDITIONAL DAMAGE. *JB

A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED ACCORDINGLY. THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BUT THE CAUSE WAS DEEMED AS UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THERE WAS ALSO FIRE DAMAGE TO THE CONTACTS HOME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 667.
My Jeep Wrangler warning light cycled on under normal driving conditions. I drove it to my mechanic he said the code read was for the transmission. We checked the transmission fluid and it was filled with fluid. I drove it home into my driveway and I saw smoke and looked under the vehicle. I didn't find anything. When I stood up and walked around the vehicle I noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. I lifted the hood and flames where present. I closed the hood and ran for fire extinguishers to put out the fire. The Jeep has always been maintained and only has 92k miles on it. The whole incident was captured on my Ring Camera.

THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE CONTACT CALLED A CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE AND THOUGHT IT WAS THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,808.
THE ENGINE WAS ON IDLE. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY. I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR DID NOT MOVE. I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT THE AIR CON / FAN ON THE DASHBOARD. I GOT OFF THE CAR AND LOOK UNDERNEATH IT. I SAW RED LIQUID POURING ONTO THE GROUND AND FLAMES. THE FIRE SUBSEQUENTLY EXTENDED TO THE ENTIRE ENGINE. THE FIRE BRIGADE CAME AND MANAGE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF OVERHEATING OR ANY LIGHTS THAT WOULD HAVE INDICATED THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. THE CAR WAS REGULARLY MAINTAINED (EVERY 10,000 KM) AT THE LOCAL JEEP SERVICE CENTER. THE CAR ONLY HAD 77000 MILES I HAVE NEVER BEEN OFF-ROAD. I HAVE NEVER MADE ANY UPGRADE OR MODIFICATION TO THE CAR.
I WAS DELIVERING MAIL, AND WHILE STOPPED AT A BOX I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE HOOD. I PULLED INTO THE NEAREST DRIVEWAY, AND GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE JUST BEFORE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WENT UP IN FLAMES.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler JK vehicles manufactured March 2, 2006, to August 13, 2010. The clockspring assembly may become contaminated with dust and cause the air bag circuit to fail.
Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the clockspring, wheel back cover, and column shroud, free of charge. The recall began on December 14, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S33.
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 Jeep Wrangler right-hand drive vehicles manufactured February 1, 2007, through October 10, 2011. The affected vehicles have airbag clockspring assemblies that could experience broken airbag circuits.
Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the clockspring and add a steering wheel dust shield, free of charge. The recall began on June 10, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. This recall supercedes NHTSA recall 11V-528. Chrysler's recall campaign number is M31.
Quadratec, Inc. is recalling certain aftermarket accessory, driver-side, Ultimate Floor Liners part numbers 14254.0301 07, 14254.0301 08, 14254.0301Q, 14254.0302 07, 14254.0302 08, 14254.0302Q, 14254.0303 07, 14254.0303 08, 14254.0303Q, 14254.0309 07, 14254.0309 08, and 14254.0309Q sold from May 1, 2012, through February 14, 2013. The liners are for use in 2007-2013 Jeep Wranglers. The anchor point for the affected floor liners may tear during use, particularly when exposed to high temperatures. The tearing may allow the floor liner to shift forward.
Remedy: Quadratec will notify owners and either exchange the liners or provide them with a hook guard kit to help secure the driver-side mat, free of charge. The recall began on April 4, 2013. Owners may contact Quadratec at 1-800-463-2998 or info@quadratec.com.

SOME VEHICLES MAY BE EQUIPPED WITH DRIVER'S AIRBAG CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLIES THAT COULD EXPERIENCE A COMPROMISED AIRBAG CIRCUIT RESULTING IN AN AIRBAG LAMP ILLUMINATION, WHICH INDICATES THAT THE AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY.
Remedy: CHRYSLER WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REMEDY THE VEHICLES AS NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. CHRYSLER WILL MAIL TO OWNERS AN INTERIM NOTIFICATION DURING MARCH 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

THERE MAY BE CONTACT BETWEEN THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT INNER FENDER LINERS AND THE RIGHT FRONT AND LEFT REAR BRAKE TUBES WHICH COULD CAUSE WEAR OF THE TUBES CAUSING A BRAKE FLUID LEAK.
