Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation, I am filing this formal safety defect complaint regarding the complete failure of the airbag system to deploy during a serious motor vehicle collision on [XXX], involving a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Altitude (VIN: [XXX] ). This failure occurred in direct connection with a known manufacturer defect covered under NHTSA Recall #26V-328. The driver, [XXX] , sustained serious injuries that were significantly enhanced by the airbag failure. Neither the driver nor the vehicle owner, [XXX] , had any prior knowledge of this defect. We request that NHTSA open a formal investigation and take all appropriate enforcement action against Stellantis/FCA On [XXX], at approximately [XXX] PM, [XXX] was operating the 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Altitude southbound on [XXX] . Conditions at the time were ideal — clear weather, dry roads, and full daylight visibility. [XXX] was traveling straight through a signalized intersection at the posted 35 MPH speed limit when his vehicle was struck by a 2024 Ford Expedition that failed to yield while making a left turn from northbound [XXX] . The result was a serious angle collision that caused disabling damage to the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle was unable to be driven and was towed from the scene by Police Impound Quality Towing [XXX] ). [XXX] was wearing his shoulder and lap belt seatbelt and was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. The official State of Michigan Traffic Crash Report (Southfield PD, Incident #[XXX], Crash ID [XXX]) confirms all of these facts and documents that [XXX] bore no fault for this collision. QUESTION 1: WHAT COMPONENT OR SYSTEM FAILED AND IS IT AVAILABLE FOR INSP INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On April 20, 2026, my 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L was involved in a crash due to a sudden and complete brake failure. At the time of the incident, the vehicle was in the custody of an authorized FCA dealership. An employee of the dealership was operating the vehicle when the brakes completely failed to respond, resulting in an accident. FCA US LLC Special Investigations conducted an inspection (Case #[96529168]) and stated they found no physical evidence of a manufacturing defect or component malfunction. However, the mechanical or electronic failure was severe enough to cause a crash while being operated by a professional dealership technician. I am filing this complaint because sudden brake failure represents an extreme safety hazard to the public. The manufacturer has denied assistance, and independent federal oversight is required to determine if a software or hydraulic defect exists in this model year.
Updates to the case#11679471. Since my initial report, Jeep arranged for an independent technician to retrieve and review the Event Data Recorder (EDR) from our vehicle. While Jeep has not shared the expert’s conclusions with us, we obtained a copy of the raw EDR data file from the same tech (attached). Based on the EDR data: 1. The brake pedal was fully applied approximately 0.4 seconds before impact and remained depressed. 2. The vehicle’s deceleration was only ~0.5 g, significantly below the expected ~0.8–1.0 g for dry asphalt conditions. 3. The ABS did not engage, indicating that hydraulic brake pressure was not reaching the level required to approach wheel lock. 4. The Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) system was “On” but did not engage. 4. The Advanced Brake Assist (ABA) activated only ~0.3 seconds before impact, too late to reduce the stopping distance. 5. No DTC (diagnostic trouble codes) were recorded at the time of the event. These EDR findings indicate that the driver executed proper emergency braking, but the brake-by-wire system did not deliver sufficient hydraulic pressure to achieve normal deceleration. This may suggest a potential electronic or hydraulic brake system defect. The vehicle remains undrivable, and we have been declined by two separate Jeep dealerships to obtain an effective inspection or repair. Given the direct connection to FMVSS 105 (Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems) requirements for service brake performance, we respectfully request that NHTSA treat this case as an urgent safety concern.
This complaint is an update to my previous complaint #11679471 submitted on August 8, 2025. Please consider this as additional information to the original case. Since my initial submission: Second Dealership Refusal: I attempted to bring the vehicle to a second authorized Jeep dealership for inspection and diagnosis. They refused any service, stating they would not inspect or repair the vehicle. This is now the second dealership to reject the vehicle after the incident. Obtained Diagnostic Printouts: Despite refusing service, the second dealership was convinced to provide printed codes from the vehicle. These codes show multiple system errors recorded at a very low vehicle mileage, including communication failures with the ABS control module, brake system internal failure, and CAN bus errors. These indicate potential electronic or computer system faults that could have occurred immediately before or during the brake failure. Manufacturer Warranty Issue: Immediately after the incident, Jeep opened a warranty case #93917003 for the vehicle. However, during subsequent communication, I was informed that this brand-new vehicle has no manufacturer's warranty at all. This is extremely concerning, as the vehicle was purchased new with only minimal mileage and no prior damage or modifications. Vehicle Condition: The vehicle remains undrivable and unsafe to operate. Jeep or its authorized dealers have performed no corrective action. Given that this was a brand-new vehicle with extremely low mileage purchased solely for personal family travel, and that both authorized dealerships have refused to address a major safety defect, I am requesting that NHTSA treat this as an urgent safety matter. The refusal to investigate by Jeep dealerships, combined with the unexpected claim that there is no manufacturer warranty, leaves this defect unresolved and poses an ongoing safety risk if similar failures occur in other vehicles.
While driving on the Belt Parkway towards Coney Island in stop-and-go traffic at approximately 25–35 mph, the vehicle in front slowed and came to a stop. The distance to the vehicle ahead was more than two car lengths. The brake pedal was fully depressed, but the vehicle did not decelerate adequately to come to a complete stop. The driver's record is clear of any car accident All forward collision warning alerts were sounding, but the ABS and automatic emergency braking (AEB) did not activate. There was no tire screech or pulsation from the brakes. The vehicle slowed but continued to move forward, resulting in a low-speed frontal collision. After the collision, the vehicle refused to move until the engine had been turned off for several minutes. Airbags did not deploy. This incident happened on a brand-new vehicle with only 318 miles on the odometer. We immediately contacted Jeep Corporate and opened a safety case. However, the first authorized dealer we visited, as was told by the Jeep advisor at 111 58th St., Brooklyn, NY 11220, refused to inspect the brake, ABS, or AEB systems under warranty, after we said that we have case number from Jeep and we need to read the computer while it still has information about the acident in the memory. Also were refused to provide a written denial, and directed us to a collision center instead, which repairs only the body but doesn't have equipment to read the car's faults. Due to this refusal, Jeep Corporate initially closed our case without resolution or notification; we had to insist on having it reopened, as the issue wasn't investigated. We are aware that Jeep models from 2024–2025 (though not exactly this trim) have had recalls for ABS, brake module, and electronic stability control issues, and these systems share similar or identical computer modules across model lines. Given these known issues and the seriousness of a complete brake system failure on a new vehicle, I believe this warrants immediate investigation by NHTSA.
The contact owns a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle suddenly shut off. The contact was able to immediately restart the vehicle and continued driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and DTC: P032S was retrieved (insufficient torque produced by the engine). The dealer was unable to repair the vehicle because the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 19,600.
I am reporting recurring safety-related shifting and vehicle gear/park-state concerns involving my 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has failed to transition properly from Reverse into Drive. I reported this Reverse-to-Drive issue to the manufacturer before later becoming aware of diagnostic information that I believed could potentially relate to the behavior. I am not a mechanic and do not know the underlying cause. On July 5, 2026, while my infant was in the vehicle, I placed the vehicle in Park and it displayed a “Park Not Engaged” warning despite being in Park. Warning sounds occurred and the vehicle automatically engaged the parking brake. This caused me serious concern about whether the vehicle was reliably recognizing its selected gear/park state. I immediately reported the incident to the manufacturer and was instructed to bring the vehicle to an authorized dealership. I complied. The vehicle was at the dealership from July 8 through July 27, 2026. During that repair visit, the dealer documented that FCA/WiTECH diagnostic systems were unavailable and that the vehicle could not be properly scanned. The vehicle was ultimately returned to me without the reported concerns being resolved. The vehicle has accumulated approximately 22 days out of service during its repair history. The manufacturer and authorized dealership have been made aware of my concerns and the vehicle has been available for inspection and diagnosis. I remain concerned about the recurring Reverse-to-Drive behavior and the July 5 Park Not Engaged event because unexpected or unreliable gear/park-state behavior could create a risk of unintended vehicle movement or an inability to reliably control the vehicle as expected. The underlying failed component or cause is UNKNOWN. I am submitting this complaint so these incidents are documented and can be evaluated by NHTSA for a potential safety-related defect.
The car started having engine issues. Car wouldn’t start. Had it towed to the dealership which replaced the engine after the dealership had it for a month. Then one week after the the engine was replaced the vehicle was having issues again. Replaced PCM
The contact owns a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the engine surged and RPM revved above 7,000 RPM, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond, and the transmission failed to respond. The contact stated that there were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway and turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle returned to normal operation. The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not yet diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 24,000.
I am reporting a serious safety failure in my 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L (1,483 miles). On XXX, the vehicle was parked with my wife and young children inside. Upon starting it, the vehicle would not shift into gear, the steering wheel locked, and the front windows stopped working. The lane departure symbol lit up during the failure, and the vehicle would not shut off through normal controls. After two hours, we shut it off by disconnecting the battery. When restarted, the check engine light and other warning lamps came on, and the vehicle began shaking and rattling. No crash occurred, but with steering locked and children in the car, I had no way to safely disable the vehicle for two hours. This could have caused loss of control if it happened while driving. No prior warning signs occurred before the incident. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or repair shop, as no certified Jeep dealership exists on Lanai, Hawaii, where I reside; shipping the vehicle requires barg transport to XX or XXX. I bought my truck march 2025 in August while putting groceries in the trunk the trunk started coming down on me I took it to the dealership the hydraulic fuel was low had I been a child the trunk probably would have shut completely on them, may 2026 both batteries went out the main batteries and the auxiliary battery june 21 the fuse array box went out nothing on the door panel works the doors won’t lock the windows don’t work the trunk won’t work the seats won’t adjust and the dealership is trying to say that this box is only covered 12 months or 12000 miles
A trailer hitch was contracted as part of the vehicle purchase on December 20, 2025, and was physically installed by Southern Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in January 2026 as a fulfillment of that purchase contract. This installation was performed by Stellantis's own authorized dealer technicians. The vehicle has been configured and warranted for towing use since January 2026 — an explicitly marketed capability of this vehicle platform. A trip was scheduled for May 18, 2026 to tow a 12-foot rigid inflatable boat (yacht tender) weighing approximately 600 pounds on a trailer from XXX to Fawcett Boat Services in XXX — a route of approximately 150 miles traversing [XXX] in heavy traffic at approximately 70 mph. The appointment at Fawcett Boat Services is verifiable. The boat's location in [XXX] is documentable. The air suspension failure occurred on May 17, 2026 — one day before this towing trip. The trip was canceled as a direct result. Had the failure occurred on May 18, 2026 during transit on Interstate 95: —The spontaneous asymmetric rear suspension collapse — right rear corner dropping without warning at 70 mph — would have subjected the hitch coupling to vertical and lateral forces outside its design tolerance —Trailer instability, jackknifing, or physical decoupling of a 600-pound loaded trailer at 70 mph in heavy interstate traffic is mechanically foreseeable —A decoupled trailer carrying a rigid boat structure at 70 mph in heavy traffic is a lethal projectile — the foreseeable consequences include multiple vehicle collisions and loss of life Stellantis marketed this vehicle as towing-capable. Stellantis's dealer installed the hitch. Stellantis knew — through its own published Technical Service Bulletins — that the Quadra-Lift system was prone to spontaneous failure at highway speed. My vehicle wasn’t reading my key fob when I was pressing the lock and unlock button, so I took out the hard key and unlock the doors. Then the alarm set off and I was using the key fob again trying to shut the alarm off no response so I took the key fob and press the start stop button and the engine turn over and the key was working again then I went to shut off the engine same way. The engine would not shut off my driver seat wouldn’t move so I couldn’t get to the battery and I paid a lock smith to come out and he couldn’t even help me with my key fob not syncing with the vehicle..my ebreak would not release or the emergency override break wasn’t working. On the digital dash it’s kept saying shift to park to release parking break but the vehicle was in park all while doing so. This all happened around 7pm. So I could not get help until the morning cs the vehicle would not move
The Uconnect infotainment system is glitchy, blacks out, and has restarted itself. The dealership I purchased it from has currently had now for a 3rd time and over 30 days. The 2nd visit the screen was replaced and the same issues still exist. This is a huge safety concern, because the system has malfunctioned while in reverse which obstructs the rearview camera view. I can’t trust that rear sensors aren’t tied into this and will apply the brakes if I get too close to something or someone/something suddenly goes behind me in reverse. The blind spot monitoring system has gone out a few times and this limits the lane keep assist functions. The dealership has said they can’t replicate the issue and the first time this happened no codes came up despite there being a stored message on digital cluster display. They have replaced a sensor module this time, but as they still have the vehicle I don’t know if this has fixed the problem or not. This is obviously a huge safety issue as it could case a wreck if someone is in a blind spot and I can’t see them and the vehicle can’t help alert me to this. It also seemed to slightly impact the handling of the vehicle as well causing me to consistently need to make micro adjustments of the steering while driving. Among those issues I have been having other commonly known issues with vehicle such as the “key fob has left vehicle” message despite the key fob still being inside the vehicle. It does not matter which key fob is used and the battery to the fob is good. The dealership can’t four that out either and have checked to make sure the serial numbers on the fobs match the VIN. The fan speed pop-up when shutting off the vehicle displaying 127 front/0 rear can’t be figured out either and dealership verified it has the most updated software versions currently available. A lot of these issues have been there since I purchased it 12/2025 or showed up within 1-2 months of owning it. Finally took it to the dealership in March.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Jeep Wagoneer, 2024-2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, 2025 Jeep Wagoneer L, 2025-2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L, 2026 Jeep Cherokee, and Jeep Grand Wagoneer L PHEV vehicles. Due to a software error, the tire pressure monitoring system may fail to detect low tire pressure and/or fail to illuminate the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System."
Remedy: Dealers will update the radio frequency hub software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning September 29, 2026. Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles. A software error in the occupant restraint controller module may cause the delayed deployment of the side air bags during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 214, "Side Impact Protection."
Remedy: Dealers will update the occupant restraint controller module software, free of charge. Some owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 18, 2026. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 01D.
