The contact's daughter owned a 2010 Honda Accord. According to an accident report given to the contact by her local highway patrol office, her daughter was driving at 45 MPH when the vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree. The impact of the vehicle hitting the tree caused the vehicle to catch fire. Based on the accident report, the airbags did not deploy upon impact. the report stated that every bone in her daughter's body was broken; she died as a result of the accident. The report stated that the vehicle burned to it's core and that a specialist had to be called to the scene to identify the vehicle. The contact initially reported her daughter missing and was informed 7 days later about her daughter's accident. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard where it was destroyed. The contact called an unknown Honda dealer and they stated that they had never heard of such a failure with that model vehicle; the dealer referred her to the NHTSA for assistance. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

THE HEAD RESTRAINTS FOR THE FRONT SEATS HAD TO BE REMOVED AS THEY CAUSED BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS SIGNIFICANT NECK PAIN. THEY FORCED OUR HEADS DOWN INTO OUR CHESTS. I CONTINUE TO LOOK FOR ALTERNATE/REPLACEMENT HEAD RESTRAINTS THAT ARE MORE UPRIGHT. *JS
FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS ARE EXTREMELY HARD AND UNCOMFORTABLE. THERE'S A HARD PIECE OF PLASTIC THAT RUNS THE WIDTH OF THE SEAT THAT DIGS INTO THIGHS/BUTTOCKS AND CAUSES CHRONIC HIP/BACK PAIN AND SOMETIMES NUMBNESS. THE SEATS ARE ALSO TOO LONG WHICH CAUSES THE FRONT OF THE SEAT TO DIG INTO THE BACK OF KNEES. THE HEADREST PUSHES HEAD/NECK FORWARD IN AN AWKWARD POSITION WHICH ALSO CAUSES NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN. THERE ARE NO ADJUSTMENTS THAT CAN BE MADE TO REMEDY THESE PAINS AND DISCOMFORT. JUST DRIVING OR RIDING FOR SHORT DISTANCES CAUSE THIS DISCOMFORT/PAIN. NOW, AFTER 6 MONTHS OF DRIVING THE CAR, THE BACK/HIP PAIN FOR ME AND MY 16 YR OLD SON IS DEEMED CHRONIC AND THERE IS REALLY NO RELIEF OTHER THAN NOT DRIVE OR RIDE IN THE CAR AND WE DON'T HAVE ANOTHER CAR. HONDA SHOULD COME UP WITH A SOLUTION AND AT LEAST OFFER AN AFFORDABLE FIX. NUMBNESS AND PAIN OF THIS SORT FOR DRIVERS IS DANGEROUS.

As a result, the vehicle crashed into the front end of his mother’s vehicle. The contact’s mother sustained whiplash to the neck. The contact’s mother was taken to the emergency room. The air bags did not deploy. No police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to Jiffy Lube where it was placed on a diagnostic, but the diagnosis could not be determined. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2009-2014 Acura TSX, 2011-2014 TSX Sport Wagon, 2010-2013 ZDX, 2008-2012 Honda Accord, 2010-2011 Accord Crosstour, 2006-2011 Civic and Civic Hybrid, 2008-2010 Civic GX NGV, 2012-2015 Crosstour, 2007-2011 CR-V, 2009-2013 Fit, 2014 Fit EV, 2010-2014 Insight, and 2009-2015 Pilot vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began August 12, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are F5F and Q5E.

Due to a faulty circuit board in the passenger seat weight sensor, the passenger seat’s occupant detection system may identify a Steering Wheel Sensor (SWS) error and the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning light could switch on. This can cause a faulty triggering of the airbags, creating a risk of injuries for a child occupying the passenger seat.
