THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving into an apartment complex parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed but felt stiff and failed to travel downward. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle drove over the curb, crashed into two HVAC units located in front of the apartment building, and the vehicle stopped. The contact was in shock and unintentionally turned off the vehicle while the vehicle was in drive(D). The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained whiplash and trauma. The contact received assistance from emergency units but refused to be taken to the hospital. A police report was filed. A mobile mechanic diagnosed that the brake booster had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the front grill of the vehicle was damaged due to the collision. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided and transferred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 EDGE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME STOPED SUDDENLY SO I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES. MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT STOPPING MY VEHICLE. ( ALL OF THIS IS HAPPENING IN SECONDS TRAVELING ABOUT TWO TO THREE CAR LENGTHS)I RELEASED MY FOOT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL RETURNED TO A NORMAL POSITION. I PRESSED THE BRAKES AGAIN AND THE PEDAL TRAVELED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD AGAIN WITHOUT STOPPING MY VEHICLE. I RELEASED PRESSURE AGAIN AND THIS TIME THE PEDAL SHOT BACK HITTING MY FOOT WITH SUCH FORCE THAT IT CAUSED A LISFRANC DISLOCATION AND SEVERE BONE BRUISING TO MY RIGHT FOOT. (I LOST MY JOB AND WILL BE UNABLE TO WORK FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS, IF I AM ABLE TO REGAIN FULL FUNCTION DUE TO THIS ACCIDENT .)THROUGH THE PAIN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKES A THIRD TIME AND THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN, NOT STOPPING MY VEHICLE AND RESULTING IN MY VEHICLE CRASHING INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AT A RELATIVELY SLOW SPEED. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2 WEEK OLD 2010 EDGE LIMITED, ON A HIGHWAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC,WHEN I WAS HIT FROM BEHIND BY A TRACTOR TRAILER LOADED WITH ASPHALT SHINGLES. I WAS PUSHED INTO A CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND BOTH CARS WERE TOTALED. DURING THE CRASH, THE COMPONENTS OF THE DASH WERE EJECTED INTO THE BACKSEAT. . IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN SEATED IN THE BACK SEAT, I'M SURE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED BY THE DEBRIS.THE DASHBOARD STAYED IN PLACE. ALSO, THE DRIVERS SEAT BROKEFROM IT'S ANCHORS. Interior driver's side door latch is covered with a metal-like substance which appears to be chrome. The metal has cracked/split along the top of the latch, where the driver places fingers to open the door. The owner/driver of this vehicle was injured by this latch on 6/6/2021, and suffered a finger laceration which required bandaging but not stitches.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
DROVE CAR TO STORE, PARKED AND TURNED OFF. WHILE GATHERING MY PURSE I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM FRONT OF CAR. OPENED UP HOOD AND FLAMES IGNITED. APPEARED TO START @ O2 SENSOR @ MANIFOLD. BURNED 2ND COIL PACK AND WIRING HARNESS. BURNT UP RADIATOR FAN AND UPPER RADIATOR HOSE. FIRE DEPARTMENT CALLED TO PUT OUT. CAR IS AT LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO DETERMINE HOW AND WHY FIRE STARTED. SO FAR NO RESPONSE OR IDEA FROM THEM. THEY SHOW ONE RECALL ON CORROSION OF FUEL TANK, BUT SAY IT DID NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THE FIRE.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 9, 2021 for the passenger side, and November 14, 2022 for the driver side. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver and passenger air bag module, and replace either the module or the inflator, if necessary, free of charge. Bearing Technologies Ltd (Bearing) is recalling certain Duralast Wheel Spindles, part number DL930676K, sold as a service part for the front wheel hub spindle of 2007-2010 Ford Edge vehicles. The affected wheel spindles have wheel mounting studs with an oversized shoulder that can prevent the wheel from being installed correctly.
Remedy: Bearing will notify the distributors of the spindles. If the studs on a defective spindle are not loose, Bearing will replace the studs at no charge. If the studs on a defective spindle are loose, Bearing will replace the spindle assembly at no charge. Bearing will also pay shop labor for the remedy. The recall began on October 16, 2017. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured September 11, 2008, to July 1, 2010, and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 23, 2008, to July 1, 2010, originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Due to corrosion from salt water exposure such as from road salt use, the affected vehicles may leak fuel from the fuel tank seam weld under the tank mounting reinforcement brackets.
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and either clean and treat the fuel tank with a corrosion preventative or replace the tank, free of charge.
