WHILE DRIVING ON THE NE EXTENSION ON MY WAY TO MY SISTERS HOUSE, MY STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKY AND PULL TO THE LEFT. LAST YEAR WE PURCHASED A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA. WE ADDED SIDE AIR BAGS. WE WANTED A SAFE VEHICLE FOR OUR DAUGHTER TO DRIVE. TWO DAYS AGO SHE WAS DRIVING A FRIEND TO WORK. A CAR WAS PARKED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT PULLED OUT TO A MAKE A U-TURN RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER. SHE AVOIDED A STRAIGHT ON T-BONE OF THE CAR BY BRAKING AND SWERVING TO THE RIGHT. THE LEFT FRONT OF HER CAR HIT THE DRIVERS DOOR AND SIDE OF THE OTHER CAR. SHE WAS TRAVELING AT 50 MPH. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER IN HER CAR HIT HIS HEAD ON THE DASHBOARD- HIS SEATBELT DID NOT TIGHTEN AND LOCK IN. HE SUFFERED A CONCUSSION. BOTH MY DAUGHTER AND PASSENGER SUFFERED BODY ACHES AND BRUISING FROM THE COLLISION. AT THIS TIME THE CAR IS AT A BODY SHOP FOR ESTIMATES ON THE DAMAGE. WE WILL HAVE IT ALSO GO TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIRBAGS AND SEATBELT FAILED TO WORK. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE SPECIFICALLY FOR ITS SAFETY FEATURES AND ARE QUITE DISMAYED THAT THEY FAILED. WE HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THIS VEHICLE NOW. *TR
MY SON WAS DRIVING WHEN HE HYDROPLANED FLIPPED THE CAR ON THE FRONT END AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY HE HAD A BIG KNOT ON HIS HEAD AND 3 CRACKED RIBS. THE CAR WAS TOTALED.
On March 17, 2023 at approximately 4:12 PM on Hwy 288 northbound just south of Southmore Boulevard I was struck from behind by a Blue Jetta. Skidding into me I think he was still going about 30 miles per hour if not a little more based on the violence of the crash. My vehicle was pushed forward into the car ahead of me damaging the front of my vehicle as well. Despite the impact, my air bags did NOT deploy. I had taken the vehicle in to the Toyota shop here in Humble, TX and had the "final fix" done on the airbags. I have been physically injured as a result of this automobile accident. I have filed with my Progressive Claim Adjuster and they are talking about totaling the vehicle. Policy Number 46753320. My concern is, despite the vehicle air bags being replaced, they did not deploy. The force of the impact should have been sufficient to activate them. It could of course be a defective switch given her age, but I'd rather let science do the talking.

THE WIFE WHO WAS THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED RIGHT KNEE, BACK, NECK, AND SHOULDERS INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION AND WAS SEEN AT A HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE WHERE AN ADJUSTER WAS TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. A DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

MY MOTHER WAS DRIVING A 2006 TOYOTA COROLLA AND WAS PULLING INTO HER PARKING PLACE AT HER APARTMENT (ESTIMATED MOVING ONLY SEVERAL MPH). WHEN SHE TOOK HER FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR TO BRAKE, THE CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD ACCELERATING VERY FAST, JUMPED THE CURB, AND CRASHED THROUGH THE BUILDING WALL AND INTO A NEIGHBOR'S APARTMENT. THE CAR STRUCK THE TENANT INSIDE, CAUSING EXTENSIVE INJURIES. THE POLICE SURMISED HER FOOT HIT THE ACCELERATOR, BUT SHE KEPT REPEATING 'THE CAR SUDDENLY JUMPED FORWARD ON ITS OWN'. LACKING EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY, WE HAD NO WAY TO QUESTION THE POLICE'S REPORT; HOWEVER, IN MY MOTHER'S RECOUNTING THE EXPERIENCE, IT DIDN'T SEEM TO MAKE ANY SENSE. THEN, AS WE HAVE SEEN OTHERS RECENTLY RECOUNTING SIMILAR EXPERIENCES AND WATCHING VIDEOS ACCELERATION PROBLEMS WITH TOYOTA VEHICLES, WE REALIZED THAT THIS SEEMED TO BE EXACTLY WHAT OUR MOTHER EXPERIENCED. FURTHERMORE, BOTH MY SISTER AND MY NIECE BOTH RECENTLY DROVE MY MOTHER'S CAR ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND BOTH EXPERIENCED SUDDEN RAPID ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. THE PROBLEM THEY EXPERIENCED WAS SO UNSETTLING, THAT THEY WARNED MY MOTHER TO KEEP THE CRUISE CONTROL TURNED OFF. THESE EXPERIENCES COMBINED WITH REPORTS THAT PROBLEMS WITH EARLIER MODELS OF TOYOTA VEHICLES THAN THE 2009-2010 RECALLED MODELS LED US TO BELIEVE THAT OUR MOTHER'S ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN UNCOVERED WITH TOYOTA VEHICLES. *TR

THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE DRIVER AND THE INFANT IN THE OTHER VEHICLE SUSTAINED INJURIES. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE BUT WILL BE ADDED TO THE HARDCOPY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,677. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,660.
MY 2006 COROLLA WITH 40K DECIDED TO TURN ITSELF OFF WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WITH OUR DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. WE HAD IT TOWED TO GAULT TOYOTA IN ENDWELL, NY, AND THE SERVICE CENTER MENTIONED THAT FOR OUR CAR THIS PART WOULD NOT QUALIFY FOR UNDER WARRANTY COVERAGE. (WE BOUGHT THE CAR USED FROM A PRIVATE OWNER) PLEASE HELP US TO HELP AVOID A POSSIBLE DISASTER FOR ANOTHER FAMILY. THE EXPERIENCE WAS SOMEWHAT TRAUMATIC BY EXPERIENCING AN UNEXPECTED ENGINE FAILURE IN TRAFFIC AND TRYING TO THINK IN A CRISIS ENVIRONMENT TO TRY TO WEAVE FROM THE LEFT LANE TO THE RIGHT OF THE DRIVING LANE IN A DECENT AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC. I WAS PERSONALLY SHAKEN UP RELIVING THE DETAILS AND POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. WE NOW MUST PAY ALMOST $900 FOR THIS DANGEROUS ORDEAL. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
Solution : Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2003-2008 Corolla, 2005-2008 Corolla Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a front passenger air bag assembly replaced under a prior recall. The air bag may not unfold as designed during inflation under high temperature conditions, possibly resulting in the air bag not inflating properly.
Solution : Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly or sub-assembly, free of charge. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015, that they are recalling 2005-2007 Lexus SC, Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia, and Pontiac Vibe, and 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra vehicles that were originally sold, or ever registered, in Florida, along the Gulf Coast, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan and American Samoa. On June 16, 2015 Toyota expanded the recall to cover an additional 769,055 vehicles, including certain model year 2002-2004 Lexus SC, Toyota Sequoia, 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla Matrix, Toyota Corolla, Pontiac Vibe, and Toyota Tundra vehicles, as well the vehicles covered by the May 13, 2015 notification in the portions of Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas that were not previously included. The inflators in the front passenger air bags are susceptible to rupture in the event of a crash necessitating the deployment of the front passenger air bag.
Solution : 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-286 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
