BAD PLASTIC RESIN COMPOUND WAS USED TO MANUFACTURE 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN SEVERAL BATCHES OF DOOR PANELS, USED TO HOLD DOOR HANDLES. THE PLASTIC CRACKS, CRUMBLES, AND DISINTEGRATES AROUND THE DOOR HANDLE AFTER ONLY A FEW (3-5) YEARS OF USE. MANY DOOR HANDLES ARE NO LONGER USABLE. THIS CREATES A FIRE SAFETY ISSUE AND A CRASH SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS CANNOT USE THE DOOR HANDLE TO ESCAPE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE DOOR HANDLE MAY HAVE BEEN INTACT BEFORE A CRASH, BUT DUE TO THE WEAK PLASTIC BE INOPERABLE AFTER A CRASH BY FURTHER CRACKING AND CRUMBLING. NUMEROUS VIDEO'S AND PICTURES HAVE SURFACED IN THE PUBLIC SHOWING THIS PROBLEM, AND CHRYSLER/JEEP IS NOT OWNING UP TO THEIR PROBLEM, AND THEIR SUPPLIER'S PROBLEM. CONSUMERS ARE FACED WITH A $2,400.00 REPAIR BILL OR DESIGNING THEIR OWN SOLUTIONS (AT THE PERIL OF THE PUBLIC)!!! HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLE VIDEOS AND COMMENTS ON DEALING WITH JEEP DEALERS AND CORPORATE ON THIS ISSUE: HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=QSFRZ7CIBKY AND HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=U3ZGRQRRMCA AND HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=BYCJ4PNDKKO AND HTTP://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=J4FIOFRFXGG I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON 07/18/2010 AND COULD NOT OPEN MY DOOR BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAD TO ROLL DOWN MY WINDOW, AND REACH OUTSIDE AND USE THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE, BECAUSE THE INTERIOR HANDLE WAS DISCONNECTED AND WOULD NOT WORK. CHRYSLER JEEP REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS VEHICLE SAFETY DEFECT DESPITE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS. ONLY WHEN THREATENED WITH LEGAL ACTION OR A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT DO THEY RESPOND. I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT AND A FLORIDA STATE TROOPER WAS BEHIND ME, ALSO STOPPED. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE TO EASE FORWARD, AWAITING TO HIT THE GAS WHEN THE TROOPER HIT HIS GAS, SLAMMING INTO THE BACK OF MY JEEP SO HARD THAT IT LIFTED THE BACK OF MY JEEP UP AND FORCED THE FRONT END TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AT THE BOTTOM OF HIS REAR BUMPER - PUSHING ME FORWARD INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME APPROXIMATELY 7 FEET. MY JEEP STALLED DURING THE HIT BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR

CAR PURCHASED 6/20/05 WITH 0 MILES. CAR TAKEN TO REPAIR 7/11/05 WITH 450 MILES. SOME WHERE ON THE RESIDENTIAL STREETS A PEBBLE WENT INTO THE CAR AND DAMAGED THE AIR COMPRESSOR. FREON HAS BEEN LEAKING SINCE THE IMPACT. THE SERVICE DEPT CAN NOT PIN POINT JUST HOW LONG THE FREON HAS BEEN LEAKING BUT ALL I KNOW IS THAT I AM 6 MONTHS PREGNANT AND HAVE 2 OTHER LITTLE GIRLS THAT HAVE BEEN INHAILING THIS FREON. THE CAR DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARANTY SINCE THIS IS A ROAD HAZARD. HOWEVER, THE CAR IS DESIGNED TO DRIVE THROUGH MOUNTAINS AND ROCKY ROADS. THERE IS A DESIGNER FAULT SINCE THE NEW CARS DO NOT HAVE A PROTECTION GRID /NET TO PREVENT DEBRIS FROM DOING SUCH DAMAGE. THE OLDER MODELS DO HAVE THIS. WHEN I ASKED THE SERVICE DEPT OF PREVENTION DEVISE THEY ONLY STATED THAT THE CAR WAS DESIGNED THIS WAY AND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS SIMULAR PROBLEM WITH THIS NEW JEEP LAREDO 2005.
Entering my exit I noticed my 1month old was no longer sound asleep but screaming I turned around noticing she was being approached by smoke arising from the back of the vehicle. As panic set in I immediately tried to come to stop moving off the exit. At the same time clear fluid gushed out of the hood and smoke immediately entered the front of the vehicle making it difficult to come to a stop see or breath. I went blank out of fear or pure confusion as I reached for my infant in the back as quickly as I could at that point she was. No longer crying. I shot out of the vehicle as fast as possible and stayed in a safety spot attempting to shield her from the sun as I watched the jeep ignite and continue to smoke itself out witnesses gathered around one allowing me to sit in her vehicle with my baby until help arrived. NO warning signs once so ever no indication of an over heating vehicle drove perfectly and not frequently it may be inspected at the towing it was taken to as for the safety of my newborn and myself we both could’ve tragically ended up gone because I was not and would not have thought twice about leaving my daughter in that vehicle. she just got into this world to be taken that fast it wasnt an option. I’ve been very uneasy since the incident with absolutely anything that functions or is electronic. Continues replay in my head over and over again in detail and nothing new pops up truly a very Traumatic experience and an unexpected loss. appointments I can’t make it to have had to cancel I do not have family here especially not close by to help me this accident was by far caused by the vehicle because it definitely look like he had a mind of its own suddenly

MY HUSBAND I WHERE IN A HEAD ON CRASH WITH THIS VEHICLE, SURVIVED WITH SERIOUS INJURIES. NOT SURE OF THE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. *TR
WHILE TRYING TO STOP, WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE STARTED RACING AND WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP, I ENDED UP HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, 2 CAR PASSENGERS WENT TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES. CONTACTED JEEP AND CAR WAS CHECKED BY FACTORY EXPERT AT LOCAL DEALER , NOTHING DEFECTIVE WAS FOUND WITH BRAKES . THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES BEFORE THIS ACCIDENT. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO STOP. ALSO I HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 ROTORS WITH LESS THAN 18,000 MILES, COMPLAINED TO JEEP AND WAS TOLD THAT ROTORS ARE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ITEM AND HOW LONG THEY LAST DEPENDS ON YOUR DRIVING HABITS. I JUST HEARD ON TV THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR BRAKE FAILURE, CONTACTED JEEP AND WAS TOLD NO, THERE IS NO RECALL AT THIS TIME. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS A RECALL ON 05 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FOR BRAKE FAILURE. EQ-10203460-4200. DATE RECEIVED 12/12/07 *JB NEW JERSEY POLICE REPORT. UPDATED 12/12/07 *TR
DOOR HANDLES ON ALL INTERIOR DOORS HAVE BROKEN AND BECOME UN-USEABLE AND VERY DANGEROUS AS PASSENGERS HAVE TO BE LET OUT OR OPEN WINDOWS AND TRY TO OPEN DOOR FROM OUTSIDE , IF THERE WAS A FIRE OR WATER HAZARD THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO ESCAPE AS ELECTRICS WOULDNT ALLOW WINOWS TO OPEN , IM AFRAID TO TRAVEL WITH MY KIDS AND PRICE TO FIX IS OVER $3000.00 AND NO ONE WANTS TO FIX THEM , EVEN IF I SAY ILL PAY ITS REDICULOUS, DANGEROUS AND OUT RIGHT FRAUD . JEEP NEEDS TO DO A RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE AS THE DANGER TO LIFE IS MASSIVE AND THERE IS 100,000 VECHILES WITH THIS PROBLEM. JUST THE BROKEN PARTS CAN CUT PEOPLE, NOT RELIZING IT . HAPPENED BY NORMAL USE ACTUALLY LESS THAN NORMAL USE AS REAR PASSANGER DOORS FAILED FASTER THEN FRONT AND OVER THE YEARS HAD 3/4 LESS USAGE THAN FRONT AS I USE IT EVERDAY.
2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HEMI ENGINE, DOOR PANEL CRACKS LEAVING HANDLES BROKEN OFF IN REAR, TWO FRONT DOOR HANDLES SHOW SIGNS OF SEVERE CRACKS, LOOSE. CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER WHO SAID THEY WOULD COVER A PORTION OF THE REPLACEMENT, NO RECALLS WERE ISSUED ETC..THIS VEHICLE ON OCCASION HAS CHILDREN AS PASSENGERS AND I WOULD THINK CHRYSLER WOULD BE CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF PASSENGERS WITH DOOR HANDLES THAT ARE BROKEN. IT APPEARS THAT THE MATERIAL THAT THESE PARTS ARE MADE OF ARE VERY LOW QUALITY AND I AM SHOCKED THAT THE MANUFACTURE HAS NOT STEPPED UP TO THE PLATE AND PAID FOR THE REPLACEMENT. AFTER WHAT I HAVE READ ON BLOGS AND ON LINE ABOUT THE SAME COMPLAINT FROM OTHER JEEP OWNERS, THIS MAKES ME CONSIDER NOT BUYING ANOTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT IN THE FUTURE. *TR

The steering column control module (SCCM) may have been built with an inadequate welded connection between the internal flexible cable (FFC) and the busbar. The faulty connection may not allow the signal from the occupant safety control (ORC) module to reach the driver's airbag module, preventing it from deploying. An airbag that fails to deploy as intended can increase the risk of injury to the driver in the event of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) cooler can be susceptible to thermal fatigue. The exhaust gases can interact with air and other hydrocarbons in the system, which can cause combustion in the inlet manifold. This can lead the vehicle to catch fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
An incorrectly fitted rear coil spring may detach from the vehicle, which could affect vehicle handling and create a hazard for following traffic. This increases the risk of accidents and injuries. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
An incorrectly fitted retaining ring in the Power Transfer Unit may cause an unexpected loss of traction and/or failure of the parking function, increasing the risk of an accident and injury. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The high-voltage battery pack can contain cells having separator damage. A damaged separator can lead to a very rapid chemical chain reaction in the battery. This can cause the battery to overheat, which can start a fire in the vehicle. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

Second row seats may have missing welds between the seat back frame and the anchor of the child seat on one or both seats. As a result, the anchor can completely detach from the vehicle seat, increasing the risk of injury to the child seat occupant in case of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The steering column intermediate shaft can detach from the U-joint, causing the steering control to fail, increasing the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The rear coil springs may be defective and can become detached while the vehicle is in motion, creating a risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The upper control arm clamping screw may have been damaged during vehicle assembly. If it breaks, the clamping force between the control arm ball joint and the steering knuckle could be lost. This could cause the wheel to detach, creating a risk of accidents and injuries. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
