Yesterday I went to the Ford dealership and asked if my 2009 Ford Escape could have the power steering repaired under recall as the code from the OBD2 data is B2278 and that falls under a RECALL for PSCM Power Steering Control Module - STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR MALFUNCTION CAMPAIGN ID: 14V284000 FORD RECALL #14S05 I was advised there is no open recall of my vehicle and that this recall had been performed in 2014 as a software update. The history also shows my vehicle did not have any stored codes at the time of programming the PSCM. The recall work shows a 0.3 hours time slot for the Ford covered repair. This is and was a band aid and not a genuine remedy. Ford took the cheapest way out of this and denying the repair now is shameful. There are thousands of complaints since then right here on this site. If my Escape had this B2278 code at the time it was brought in, the steering column and torque sensor would have been replaced free of charge. Yesterday while at the dealership I called the Ford customer service national line and spoke with a very courteous gentleman but he was unable to honor a goodwill claim for me. I just want my vehicle to be safe to drive. I believe Ford should repair anyones vehicle that only had a software update and not actual replacement of defective parts. Fords own site says there is no expiration date on this recall. Ironically, this morning I had my power steering again fail while driving this time at the 90 bend in my drive. The steering completely locked up while attempting the turn. The front of my SUV crashed into a frozen snowbank damaging the front. I also wacked my forehead pretty good because I was not wearing my seatbelt yet. I normally get out at the end of my driveway and check my mail before leaving so I don't buckle up until that point. I'm pretty upset by all of this to the point I will be late to work this morning in taking the time to write this back at home. I work for myself and am an Electrician PLEASE MAKE FORD FIX

DURING A COLD SNAP IN JANUARY, I CLICKED MY BACK WINDSHIELD LIFTGATE TO RETRIEVE GROCERY BAGS, AND THE HINGE ON THE REAR LIFTGATE WINDOW SNAPPED IN HALF AND SENT THE WINDSHIELD FLYING ON IT'S HYDRAULIC INTO MY LEFT SHOULDER. MY CAR WAS PARKED IN THE PARKING LOT OF TRADER JOE'S IN KALAMAZOO, I WAS AT THE REAR OF THE CAR, OPENING THE LIFTGATE WITH MY KEY FOB. I WAS IMPACTED IN MY SHOULDER, SUSTAINED AN INJURY I AM STILL DEALING WITH, IF MY CHILD HAD BEEN ON MY LEFT, INSTEAD OF MY RIGHT, IT WOULD HAVE IMPACTED HIS HEAD. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT AND THE AUTO REPAIR PLACE I HAD IT FIXED OTTO KIHM'S, SAID THAT THEY SEE THIS ISSUE ALL THE TIME WITH THE ESCAPE.

In later part of 2021my vehicle's power steering began disengaging and reengaging. It is now parked in my driveway for I am afraid of driving it. Apparently the was a safety recall issued several years ago recognizing this problem and authorizing a software upgrade, new torque sensor or steering column replacement. I took my vehicle to the Ford dealer in 2014 under Safety Recall 14S05 and they did a software reprogramming. Obviously, they missed something. Now they tell me ambiguously that the recall is expired or that by reprogramming the software, they are released from further recall liability and that I would have to pay ($2200) for steering column replacement. The Hydraulic Control Unit (HCUs) in the 2009 Ford Escape malfunctioned resulting in the brake pedal losing resistance. The brake pedal needed to be pushed all the way to the floorboard with aggressive force to stop the vehicle. This issue may have resulted in an interstate accident that put the driver at extreme risk. The vehicle crashed into the vehicle in front of the driver due to a delay in stopping from the malfunctioning of the HCU. There were no warning lights that were triggered to alert an issue with the unit. The repair shop that repaired the vehicle warned the driver that the brakes were not working properly and may have caused to the accident. Due to Ford backlogs on parts from COVID-19 delays, I discovered that 180 HCUs are currently on back order in the United States. Additionally, four Ford vehicles in the Greater New Orleans area are waiting for ACUs due to the same issue of the brakes not gripping until the pedal reaches the floor. Multiple sources online are warning of a similar issue from malfunctioning HCUs and ACUs. After learning this information, I filed a complaint with the Ford Corporate office but have not heard anything regarding the integrity of the part. However, when I dropped off the vehicle at the Lamarque Ford Dealership in Kenner Louisiana, I was told the vehicle was undrivable due to the malfunctioning of the HCU. The vehicle is available for inspection at the Lamarque Ford Dealership located at 3101 Williams Blvd Suite F, Kenner, LA 70065. Additionally, other vehicles are waiting for repairs at Supreme Ford of Slidell located at 400 E Howze Beach Rd, Slidell, LA 70461. Due to the extensive backlog of Ford parts, these vehicles have been waiting months to be repaired and potentially have months to continue to wait before being repaired.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE AND THE ABS BRAKES ACTIVATED DUE TO A SLIPPERY SPOT ON THE ROAD. THEN A CAR STOPPED QUICK IN FRONT OF ME AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR RESULTING IN NO BRAKES, I WENT OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID A COLLISION. I HAD THE CAR TOWED. WENT TO MY MECHANIC AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS BAD ABS MODULA. CALLED FORD AND WAS TOLD IT COULD BE $2,000 TO REPAIR. I SEE RECALLS ON FORDS 2006-2010. BUT NOT MY FORD ESCAPE. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED IN A RECALL. MY 2009 FORD WAS PURCHASED NEW AND IN MY FAMILY EVER SINCE. NOW I HAVE THE CAR SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. VERY THANKFUL NO ONE WAS INJURED. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS FOR ME AND OTHERS. THANK YOU

I HAVE A 2009 FORD ESCAPE APPROXIMATELY 120,000 MILES ON IT. A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO WHILE DRIVING TO WORK IN THE EARLY MORNING I SAW DEER STANDING IN THE ROAD, THEY USUALLY ALMOST ALWAYS MOVE OUT OF THE ROAD. AS I GOT CLOSER IT WAS OBVIOUS IT WASN'T GOING TO MOVE, SO I PUT THE BRAKES ON AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR... THUD...BUMP...CRUNCH BUT THE DEER HOBBLED OFF. I PULLED OVER AND NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END, I LOOK OVER AND THE DEER WAS IN THE FIELD PUTTING ON ITS BEST BREAK DANCING MOVES AND SUDDENLY TOOK A NAP. I GOT BACK IN THE VEHICLE PUMPED THE BRAKES A COUPLE OF TIMES AND BRAKES CAME BACK, OFF TO WORK I WENT. AFTER WORK ON THE WAY HOME NO A/C, WHEN I GOT HOME THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO THE A/C CONDENSER. THEN JUST YESTERDAY LEAVING WORK IN THE ESCAPE, SOMEONE WALKED IN FRONT OF ME I PUT THE BRAKES ON AND TO THE FLOOR AGAIN...PUMP-PUMP-PUMP AND STOP.....SLOWLY.... THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME HAD A LOOK OF SHOCK THAT I WAS 6 INCHES FROM THEM. SORRY I YELL OUT THEY NOD BACK BEGRUDGINGLY. I THINK YA BUDDY YOU MADE OUT A LOT BETTER THAN THAT DEER A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. AND OH YA NOW I ALWAYS HAVE BRAKES THAT GO TO THE FLOOR.
