Information, not advice

Everything here is assembled from public databases and from the structure of the identifier you enter. It is offered to help you decide what to check, not as a basis for a purchase on its own.

Nothing on this site is a valuation, an inspection, a safety certification or a guarantee that a vehicle is what it appears to be. For a decision that matters, inspect the vehicle and verify its paperwork.

Where the limits actually bite

  • Recalls and complaints describe a model year, not your car. A listed recall may not apply to a specific vehicle, and may already have been carried out. Confirm with a dealer using the full identifier.
  • Optional equipment is not confirmed. A VIN does not record which factory options were ordered, so anything shown as orderable needs checking against the car.
  • Written summaries are generated by a language model from the decoded fields. They can be wrong or incomplete. The fields above them are the source.
  • Nothing here covers history. Mileage, accidents, title status and previous owners are not encoded in any vehicle identifier and are not shown.

Data accuracy

Data comes from NHTSA, the EPA and the European Commission's Safety Gate. Their records can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and coverage varies sharply by market — a vehicle never sold in North America often has little or no record at all. Where two sources disagree, both are shown rather than one being chosen silently.

No warranty is given that anything shown is accurate, complete or current.

Fair use

Requests are rate limited so the service stays available and its upstream sources are not abused. Automated bulk extraction is not permitted — the data is public at source, and those sources should be queried directly rather than through here.

The service is provided as-is and may change or stop without notice.

Trademarks

Manufacturer and model names appear only to describe vehicles. This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any vehicle manufacturer, nor to NHTSA, the EPA or the European Commission.
