MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING NORTH ON TULLS CREEK ROAD IN MOYOCK, MC JUST NORTH OF POYNER ROAD WHEN SHE LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER THE CAR AND WENT OFF INTO A DITCH CAUSING MINOR INJURIES AND EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE CAR. I DIDN'T MUCH ABOUT HER REASONING UNTIL READING ABOUT THE RECENT RECALLL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH ISSUE. *JS

WHILE WAITING FOR THE RECALL PARTS TO COME IN FOR MY PONTIAC I WAS THE VICTIM IN A HEAD ON COLLISION IN WHICH MY AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE SPEED OF IMPACT WAS BETWEEN 35-40 MPH WHEN I HIT HEAD ON. AT MY DOCTOR VISIT I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH SEVERE WHIPLASH IN WHICH I HAD TO TAKE TIME OFF OF WORK AS WELL. I WANTED TO BRING THIS DEFECT TO YOUR ATTENTION IN CASE YOU CAN FIX THIS DEFECT BEFORE THERE ARE ANY OTHER VICTIMS INVOLVED. I'M NOW VERY SCARED TO GET BACK IN THE CAR I HAVE WHICH IS CURRENTLY AT DUTTON MOTOR CO IN RIVERSIDE AWAITING IT'S TREMENDOUS REPAIRS ALTHOUGH THE AIR BAGS ARE STILL IN TACT. IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION FOR ME OR ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME AT [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 PONTIAC G5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON A GRAVEL ROAD, THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL AND LANDED UPSIDE DOWN. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BUMPS, BRUISES AND LACERATIONS TO DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A SALVAGE FACILITY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE IMPACT. THERE WERE TWO RECALLS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS , ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE CONSEQUENCE PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTIFICATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
MY SON WAS DRIVING A 2009 PONTIAC G5 IN A HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH +/- AND WENT TO MAKE SUDDEN TURN WHEN THE POWER STEERING COMPLETELY FAILED. HE SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND EVEN PULLED THE E-BRAKE TO NO AVAIL AND HIT A BLOCK WALL. AS A RESULT OF THIS ACCIDENT HE SUSTAINED NECK AND BACK INJURIES AS WELL AS OTHER BUMPS AND BRUISES. THE VEHICLE HIT THE WALL AT APPROXIMATELY A 20 DEGREE ANGLE HITTING THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT CORNER AT THE HEADLIGHT AREA. THE IMPACT RESULTED IN MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT CORNER PANEL, HOOD, DRIVER DOOR, RADIATOR, AND POSSIBLE BENT FRAME. AFTER BACKING THE CAR AWAY FROM THE WALL THE POWER STEERING STARTED WORKING AGAIN BUT WITH LOSS OF FLUIDS THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED AWAY AND MY SON GETTING CHECKED OUT FOR HIS INJURIES. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH ON-STAR BUT IT FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE IMPACT SENSORS AND DID SEND ANY TYPE OF MESSAGE OR RESPONSE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER. WE DID RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE ABOUT THE POWER STEERING UNIT BUT IT DID NOT SAY THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING. THE NOTICE DID NOT SAY TO QUIT DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL A FIX WAS IN PLACE SO WE THOUGHT IT WAS STILL SAFE TO DRIVE. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING NOW THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. WHY DIDN'T THE DEALER HAVE TO INFORM US BEFORE WE BOUGHT IT. I WILL NEVER PUT MY SON IN THAT CAR AGAIN FIXED OR NOT. *TR

[XXX] ON OR ABOUT 8:50 P.M. ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 28, 2010, MY WIFE [XXX] ROCHESTER, NY 14624 [XXX] , WAS APPROACHING A PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF THE DOLLAR TREE IN SOUTH TOWNS PLAZA, HENRIETTA, NY AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, COASTING TO A STOP WITH HER FEET ON NEITHER THE GAS NOR BRAKE PEDAL, WHEN OUR 2009 PONTIAC G5 NY LICENSE [XXX] , LURCHED OUT OF CONTROL, JUMPED OVER THE MEDIAN CURB IN FRONT OF THE PARKING SPACE, SO FAST THAT THE CAR BECAME MOMENTARILY AIR BORN, AND STRUCK THE CONCRETE BASE OF WHAT WAS ONCE EITHER A STOP SIGN OR LAMP POST IN THE SOUTH TOWNS PARKING LOT. HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE MEDIAN AND THE CONCRETE PILLAR BETWEEN THE PARKING SPACE AND THE DOLLAR TREE STORE FRONT, THE GM PONTIAC G5 WOULD HAVE PLOWED THROUGH THE DOLLAR TREE STORE FRONT FULL OF CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS ON THE DAY AFTER BLACK FRIDAY, PERHAPS KILLING MY WIFE AND MANY, MANY DOLLAR TREE CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS. THE RESULTING UNAVOIDABLE ACCIDENT CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, CAVING IT IN ALMOST A FOOT, AND DENTING THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR QUARTER PANEL. THIS CAR HAS A 2.2 LITRE, 155 HORSE POWER ENGINE, YOU CANNOT INTENTIONALLY STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR SO HARD, IN SUCH A SHORT DISTANCE, THAT IT WILL JUMP A MEDIAN CURB, BECOME AIR BORN, AND STRIKE A CONCRETE PILLAR WITH SUCH FORCE THAT IT WILL CAVE IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR, CAUSING SUCH DAMAGE. GM INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND BLAMED THE SUDDEN CATASTROPHIC ACCELERATION ON THE CAR'S AFTER MARKET FLOOR MATS. GM REFUSES TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR, STILL UNDER WARRANTY, AND REFUSES TO CONSIDER THAT THIS MAY BE ONE OF THE THOUSANDS OF AUTO INDUSTRY WIDE INCIDENTS OF INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES IN THE VEHICLE. GM CLAIMS TO HAVE RUN SUFFICIENT TESTS ON THE CAR TO DETERMINE THAT THE ECM IS WHOLLY SAFE AND WITHOUT PROBLEMS. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

The contact owns a 2009 Pontiac G5. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the odor of fuel was present. Upon inspection, it was discovered that fuel had leaked from above the fuel tank. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local unknown dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure however, no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 12V459000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 129,000.
My 2009 Pontiac G5 was driven to work this morning 6-10-21and parked in a Michigan State vehicle garage. Security notified me at work that my vehicle had a puddle of gas under and near a rear tire. I removed vehicle frome parking garage and parked it in a remote open parking lot. A gas leak in a car is dangerous, and a safety issue for me and others , especially in a parking garage!!! The vehicle has always been maintained as I am the original owner of the car. The car will be delivered to the dealer for inspection on 6/14/21. There are no recalls on this car . Opon my own investigation after the incident, there are numerous complaints logged into NHTSA of a rust issue of the fuel line where it is clamped near the fuel tank. There is also reports of crack developing at the intank fuel pump connection. ALL Cobalts,G5 's and other variations of this vehicle should be recalled immediately and inspections of the fuel system be reported back to NHTSA. Was there a fire? My answer is "NOT YET".
FUEL LINE LEAKAGE - GAS LEAKS OUT QUICKLY UNTIL THE TANK IS EMPTY. THE CAR IS UNDRIVABLE IN THIS CONDITION, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A HUGELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 PONTIAC G5. A MASSIVE GAS LEAK IS A SAFETY CONCERN.
FUEL LEAKING FROM FUEL LINES ON DRIVER SIDE JUST IN FRONT OF REAR WHEEL WELL.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "Off" position.
Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and for vehicles that were built with the defective ignition cylinder and have not previously had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. For vehicles that were built with the redesigned ignition cylinder or had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac owners at 1-800-762-2737, and Saturn owners at 1-800-553-6000. General Motors' number for this recall is 14113 for the ignition lock cylinder and key replacement, and 14133 for only key replacements. Note: Until a vehicle has been remedied, owners and operators are advised that when exiting, to be sure that the vehicle is in "Park," or in the case of a manual transmission, that the vehicle is in the "Reverse" position and the parking brake is engaged.
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on February 10, 2014 that they are recalling 619,122 model year 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, and 2007 Pontiac G5 vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. On March 27, 2014, GM notified the agency that the defective ignition switches may have been used as service replacement parts on other vehicles, and as a result GM will be recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky, and Pontiac G5 and Solstice, and 2008-2011 Chevrolet HHR vehicles. The part numbers for the service parts are 10392423 (a/k/a ACDelco D1461F), 10392737, 15857948, 15854953, 15896640, and 25846762. This expansion represents an additional 823,788 vehicles.

Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737 or Saturn at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for the initial recall is 13454 and 14063 for the expansion. GMs recall number for the vehicles that may have received the replacement parts is 14092. Note: Until the recall repairs have been performed, it is very important that customers remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the vehicle key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Always wear your seatbelt.

The weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the affected ignition switches to move out of the run position, turning off the engine and disabling the air bags.
Remedy: UCI-FRAM Group has notified its purchasers to quarantine and return all inventory. Any switches already installed in vehicles will be replaced by GM dealers as part of NHTSA recall 14V-047, free of charge. UCI-Fram's purchasers should contact UCI-FRAM Group at 1-800-890-2075.
