MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER RECEIVED A SERIOUS BURN ON HER LEG FROM THE EXHAUST OF MY MINI COOPER S. THE DOUBLE EXHAUST IS LOCATED IN THE CENTER BACK OF THE CAR AND EXTENDS PAST THE EDGE OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET ITEMS OUT OF THE TRUNK AREA WITHOUT TOUCHING THE EXHAUST. THE EXHAUST IN LOCATED IN THE EXACT LOCATION WHERE ONE STANDS TO RETRIEVE CARGO. I HAVE BURNED MY LEG TWICE UNLOADING GROCERIES. IT TAKES A CONSTANT EFFORT TO REMEMBER TO AVOID THE EXHAUST. THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *JB ADD PICTURE *121108 CW UPDATED 12/11/08
CAR CRASH MAY 30, 2017, DRIVER'S AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING GREAT BODILY INJURY TO DRIVER.. DRIVER WAS TRAVELING 25 MPH IN TOWN AT AROUND 10:30 A.M.. DRIVER HAD A STROKE, PASSED OUT, CROSSED OVER TO OPPOSITE SIDE OF ROAD AND HIT AN UNOCCUPIED PARKED CAR. THAT CAR HIT ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE AND CHAIN REACTION LEFT FOUR CARS IN THE ACCIDENT. STATE FARM OR GENE'S AUTO BODY SHOP HAVE PHOTOS.
PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT OFF COMES ON AND OFF REGULARLY, HAVE REPEATEDLY REPORTED PROBLEM TO DEALER. WAS IN CAR ACCIDENT, FRONT ON COLLISION OVER 30 MPH, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. NEW WARNING CAME ON STATING PROBLEMS WITH AIRBAG SYSTEM, DEALER SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. WARNING LIGHTS KEEP COMING ON, HAVE REPORTED PROBLEM TO DEALER, WAITING ON REPLACEMENT PART. *TR
I OWN A 2007 MINI COOPER. THE TAIL PIPE IS LARGE EXTENDS BEYOND THE EDGE OF THE BUMPER. I HAD DRIVEN MY CAR APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES AND PARKED IT, THEN OPENED THE BACK TO RETRIEVE SOME ITEMS FROM THE CARGO AREA. MY LEG CAME INTO CONTACT WITH THE TAIL PIPE AND I RECEIVED A SEVERE BURN WHICH WAS EXTREMELY PAINFUL AND BECAME BLISTERED. THE BURN WAS LARGE AND IN THE SHAPE OF A HALF MOON. THERE IS STILL A SCAR ON MY LEG FROM THIS. I CONTACTED BMW MINI NORTH AMERICA, TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED, AND SENT THEM A PICTURE OF MY LEG WITH THE BURN ON IT. THEY ARRANGED FOR ME TO BRING MY CAR IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE AN ENGINEER EVALUATE THE CAR FOR ANY DEFECTS IN THE TAILPIPE. LATER I WAS TOLD THAT THE TAILPIPE WAS MANUFACTURED PROPERLY AND I SHOULD JUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH IT. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THERE IS A WARNING IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL FOR THE CAR REGARDING THE TAIL PIPE. I LOOKED IT UP AND IT SAYS "DO NOT TOUCH HOT EXHAUST TAIL PIPES. OTHERWISE THERE IS A RISK OF BURNS". UNFORTUNATELY, THE TAIL PIPE IS IN A POSITION WHERE A PERSON'S LEG WOULD NORMALLY BE WHEN RETRIEVING ITEMS FROM THE CARGO AREA OF THE CAR. AND SINCE IT PROTRUDES PAST THE BUMPER, IT IS DIFFICULT NOT TO TOUCH IT. *TR
I OWN A 2007 MINI COOPER S HARDTOP. LAST MAY, WHILE TAKING SOME SHOPPING PACKAGES OUT OF THE BACK ,THROUGH THE HATCH OF MY VEHICLE , I WAS BURNED ON THE SIDE OF MY LEFT CALF BY THE EXHAUST PIPE. A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN, JUST NOT AS BADLY AS THE FIRST TIME THANKFULLY. THE FIRST BURN DID BLISTER AND TODAY,SEPT.30,2008, I STILL HAVE A MARK ON MY LEG FROM THIS PAINFUL EVENT. *TR
THE TAILPIPES, WHEN HOT, APPARENTLY PROTRUDE ENOUGH TO CAUSE SEVERE BURNS TO THE LEG. MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER SUSTAINED A SERIOUS BURN THIS WAY WHEN GETTING SOMETHING OUT OF THE HATCHBACK. *TR
RECEIVED BLISTERING AND PERMANENT SCARING BURN FROM EXHAUST PIPE WHILE REMOVING CARGO FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. *TR

AFTER A 30 MINUTE DRIVE, I PARKED AND THEN PULLED SOMETHING OUT OF THE TRUNK. WHILE REACHING IN, I BURNED MY LEFT SHIN ON THE TAILPIPE. I SHOWED IT A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER TO OUR BURN UNIT DIRECTOR AND HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A FUNCTIONAL FULL THICKNESS BURN IN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS LOCATION (BECAUSE OF THE POOR BLOOD PERFUSION TO THE SHIN, HEALING IS IMPAIRED AND INFECTION RISK IS HIGH). HE SENT ME HOME FROM WORK ON ANTIBIOTICS AND I HAD TO BE ON BED REST WITH MY LEG ELEVATED. I SPOKE TO MINI AND THEY SUGGESTED THAT I BE CAREFUL - AS THE TAILPIPE CAN GET HOT. I THANKED THEM FOR THE ADVICE AND MADE THE FOLLOWING POINT: SURE, IT GETS HOT... IT'S AN EXHAUST TAILPIPE. HOWEVER, IT'S THE FIRST THING MY LEG COMES IN CONTACT TO AND IT'S IN THE CENTER OF A CAR THAT REQUIRES YOU TO GET CLOSE IN ORDER TO PULL SOMETHING OUT OF THE TRUNK. I SUGGESTED THAT BMW ISSUE A RECALL AND ADJUST THE TAILPIPE SO THAT THE FIRST THING THE LEG HITS IS THE BUMPER (LIKE MOST CARS). I WAS TOLD THAT NO CHANGE WAS PLANNED AT THIS TIME. MY POINTS: IT'S A BAD DESIGN. IT'S AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM (A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH OR NORTHAMERICANMOTORING SEARCH WILL SHOW THIS). BMW NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING TO PROTECT ITS CUSTOMERS AND EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY, ITS CUSTOMERS' CHILDREN. *TR ADD PICTURE *121108 CW UPDATED 12/11/08. *JB
I BURNED MY LOWER FRONT LEG ON THE CHROME TIPPED DUAL EXHAUST PIPES OF OUT 2007 MINI COOPER S (TURBO VERSION). *TR
LOWER LEG SUSTAINED BURN RESULTING IN SCARING AS RESULT OF COMING INTO CONTACT WITH EDGE OF REAR EXHAUST PIPE(S). EXHAUST PIPES EXTEND TOO FAR BEYOND REAR BUMPER CREATING EXPOSURE TO A PERSON ACCESSING TRUNK. *TR
UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, THE CAR'S CENTER PILLAR AREA (DIRECTLY ADJACENT TO THE GAS PEDAL) REACHES AVERAGE TEMPERATURES OF 115-120 DEGREES. I HAVE BURNED MYSELF ON THIS AREA WHILE WEARING SHORTS, LEAVING A RED WELT. I'VE ALSO JERKED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN THE HOT SURFACE CATCHES ME BY SURPRISE. *TR
THE CENTER PILLAR HEAT RISES TO AN EXTREMELY HIGH TEMPERATURE IN MY CAR. THIS HAPPENED IN THE SUMMER WHEN TEMPERATURES WERE VERY HOT.(100+) IT'S HOT ENOUGH TO STARTLE A DRIVER OR BURN THEM; THIS COULD CAUSE THEM TO REACT BY MOVING THEIR FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR IN AN UNPREDICTABLE WAY, WHICH IS QUITE A SAFETY HAZARD. IT BURNED MY RIGHT ANKLE. I'M WRITING NOW BECAUSE I REALLY DIDN'T KNOW ANY BETTER THEN, PLUS I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS WEBSITE. NOW THERE ARE REPORTS OF MINI COOPER SS CATCHING ON FIRE. I AM CONCERNED. *TR
MT CLIENT WAS REACHING INTO THE REAR OF A 2007 MINI COOPER BMW WHEN HER LEG MADE CONTACT WITH THE PROTRUDING MUFFLER THAT CAUSED A SEVERE BURN ON HER LEG. *TR
THE HOOD (RIGHT ABOVE THE HOOD SCOOP) ON MY R56 07 MINI COOPER S IS EXTREMELY HOT AFTER ANY DRIVING AT ALL. IT'S LITERALLY HOT ENOUGH TO MELT THE PLASTIC ON THE HOOD. THIS IS WELL OVER 200 DEGREES F AND IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD TO NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT ANY INDIVIDUAL PASSING BY THE CAR. I'M DEATHLY AFRAID THAT THIS WILL EITHER START A FIRE IN MY GARAGE OR CAUSE AN INDIVIDUAL TO ACCIDENTALLY BURN THEMSELVES ON THE HOOD OF MY CAR. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN BURNED FROM THIS ONCE BY PLACING MY HAND ON THE HOOD. *TR

The seat belts of the car were not manufactured correctly. In the event of a collision or accident, the restraint function of the seat belts may be reduced and may not provide the necessary protection. As a result, there may be an increased risk of injury. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
A manufacturing defect in the high-voltage battery may cause a short circuit in the vehicles concerned. This may result in the vehicle catching fire, even when it is parked. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The hollow shaft of the servomotor has been welded incorrectly. The weld may not be able to withstand high braking pressure build-up and may break. In this case, the reduced braking performance requires greater force and the braking distance may increase. In addition, the ABS and DSC brake control systems are not assisted. This increases the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of Motor Vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
A quality check showed that cell modules of the high-voltage battery may not have been manufactured to specification and therefore malfunctions may occur in the high-voltage battery. In certain situations, it cannot be ruled out that these malfunctions will lead to a short circuit in the high-voltage battery. A vehicle fire, even when parked, is possible in extremely rare cases. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The high-voltage battery can short-circuit, causing the battery to overheat and the vehicle to catch fire, even when it is parked. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The casing of the high-voltage (HV) battery may not be watertight, risking water entry. If water enters, a message alerts the driver about an insulation fault. Ignoring this warning can cause the HV battery to shut down mid-drive, leading the vehicle to decelerate to a stop, creating a risk of accidents and injuries. Additionally, there's a risk of fire, even when the vehicle is parked. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
