Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2005-2008 Audi A4 Sedan, A4 Avant, S4 Avant and S4 Sedan, 2007-2008 RS4 Sedan, 2004 RS4 Cabriolet, 2007-2009 A4 Cabriolet and S4 Cabriolet, 2005-2011 A6 Sedan, 2006-2011 A6 Avant, and 2007-2011 S6 Sedan vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
Remedy: Audi has notified owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag with an alternate remedy part, free of charge. The recall began June 29, 2018. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69R7. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 16V382, 17V032 and 18V004 and includes vehicles that may have had their air bag previously replaced under one of those campaigns.

I BOUGHT A USED 2006 AUDI A6 TWO MONTHS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. I HAD BEEN USING THE "KEYLESS" OPTION WHEN STARTING AND STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I STOPPED AT A LIBRARY, PUSHED THE BUTTON TWICE TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS ROLLING FORWARD. I ATTEMPTED TO STOP IT; I OPENED THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND AS I WAS GETTING IN THE DOOR STRUCK A TRASH CAN IN THE PARKING LOT, KNOCKING ME DOWN. THE VEHICLE'S REAR WHEEL CAUGHT MY LEFT HEEL AND DRUG ME ACROSS A CURB BEFORE STOPPING ON MY LEFT FOOT. SEVERAL MEN IN THE PARKING LOT LIFTED THE VEHICLE OFF MY FOOT. I WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND KEPT FOR INJURIES TO MY LEFT LEG. EVIDENTLY I FAILED TO PUT THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION IN "P" AND HAD LEFT IT IN "D". CARS THAT USE A PHYSICAL KEY TO START AND STOP THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ALLOW A DRIVER TO REMOVE THE KEY UNLESS THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SHIFTED TO "PARK." A VEHICLE THAT DOES NOT UTILIZE A PHYSICAL KEY, DOES NOT THAT BUILT-IN SAFETY FEATURE. FIVE WEEKS LATER I AM IN PHYSICAL THERAPY AND AM GRATEFUL I DID NOT SUSTAIN MORE SERIOUS INJURIES, OR THAT AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER WAS NOT KILLED BY A DRIVERLESS CAR ROLLING THROUGH A PARKING LOT AT A LIBRARY THAT IS FREQUENTED BY CHILDREN. NOW I AM ADAMANT ABOUT ALWAYS SETTING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. MY CONCERN IS REAL: AS MORE AND MORE VEHICLES ARE MANUFACTURED WITH "KEYLESS" IGNITION SYSTEMS THAT CONTAIN NO FAIL-SAFE FEATURE TO PREVENT "INADVERTENT ROLLING" AS EXPLAINED IN THE AUDI'S OWNER'S MANUAL, I BELIEVE MORE INJURIES AND DEATHS WILL BE REALIZED. IN SPEAKING WITH THE REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE AT AUDI, HE EXPLAINED THAT AUDI PUBLISHES A "BOOK" EXPLAINING THE VEHICLE AND WHAT HAPPENED WAS TOTALLY MY FAULT. MY AUDI HAS A SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER THE SEAT THAT PREVENTS AN EXPENSIVE AIRBAG FROM DEPLOYING UNNECESSARILY; HOW ABOUT A SENSOR IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT THAT PREVENTS A VEHICLE FROM ROLLING WHEN THERE IS NO DRIVER? *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE VEHICLE BURST INTO FLAMES. MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FIRE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER 01/27/2005 FOR RECALL REMEDY REPAIRS, #04V133000. DURING THE INCIDENT THE CONTACT'S KNEE PUSH AGAINST THE KNEE BOLSTER LOCATED UNDER THE DASHBOARD, WHICH MADE CONTACT WITH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH WIRING HARNESS, AND AN ELECTRICAL SHORT OCCURRED AND RESULTED IN A FIRE. UPDATED 8/14/2006 - *NM
TAKATA RECALL THE PROBLEM WITH THE TAKATA AIRBAGS HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY CONFIRMED FOR YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST NOTICE FROM AUDI IN THE TIME WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR (OVER ONE YEAR). HOW IS IT THAT THEY CAN CASUALLY SUGGEST THAT, "AUDI RECOMMENDS AVOIDING USE OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT WHENEVER POSSIBLE UNTIL THE THE RECALL REPAIR HAS BEEN PERFORMED.", AND STATE THAT THE USE MAY RESULT, "IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.", WITHOUT OFFERING AN IMMEDIATE REMEDY. THOUGH TEN YEARS OLD, THIS IS OUR FAMILY CAR AND THERE IS NO OTHER REMEDY OFFERED THAN TO STOP DRIVING IT?? THE GOVERNMENT HAS FACILITATED AN AGREEMENT REGARDING EMISSIONS WITH VW/AUDI AND YET YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING IN THIS CASE TO PREVENT POSSIBLE DEATH. WHEN CAN WE EXPECT THIS RECALL TO BE IMPLEMENTED? IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME ALREADY AND YET THEY OFFER NO TIME LINE TO A SAFE USABLE VEHICLE. PLEASE, USE YOUR POWERS TO GET THIS RESOLVED.
I WAS PARKED AT A STOP LIGHT FACING DOWN A SLIGHT HILL. THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AFTERWARDS, UPON INSPECTION, IT IS POSSIBLE WHILE AT IDLE TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH A LITTLE BIT OF PRESSURE TO THE FLOOR. MY FOOT MUST HAVE HIT THE ACCELERATOR WHILE THE BRAKE WAS SLOWLY BEING DEPRESSED. THE HARDER I TRIED TO BRAKE THE FASTER THE CAR WENT. I VISITED THE AUDI DEALER AND WE TRIED THIS EXPERIMENT IN A SIMILAR MODEL WITH THE SAME RESULT. THE DEALER SAYS THIS IS PART OF THE DESIGN! IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DO THIS IN MY OTHER CAR OR OTHER MODELS I HAVE CHECKED. I BELIEVE IT IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DESIGN AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF THERE WAS NO CAR JUST A FEW FEET IN FRONT OF ME. *JB
The contact owns a 2006 Audi A6. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V427000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. 2006 AUDI A6. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ILLUMINATED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL. THE CONSUMER WAS IN CONTACT WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER, WHO STATED THEY BOUGHT AND SOLD THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALER FOR THE SAME ISSUE. ALSO THE CONSUMER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 119,00 MILES, BUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER STATED THE ACTUAL MILEAGE WAS OVER 200,000. *JS
FAILED FUEL INJECTOR SEAL CAUSING FUEL LEAK
I HAVE BEEN SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS TO RECTIFY AN OPEN AIRBAG RECALL THROUGH TWO DIFFERENT AUDI DEALERS. NONE OF THE DEALERS BOTH IN OXNARD, CA AND RANCHO MIRAGE, CA HAVE FOLLOWED THROUGH. I ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT FOR 3/11/2019 FOR THE OXNARD, CA LOCATION, AND THE LATEST COUPLE WERE FOR LAST AND THIS MONTH THROUGH THE AUDI IN RANCHO MIRAGE, CA. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY OF THOSE OF MY FAMILY, AS THE RECALL POINTS OUT THAT A METAL MESH WOULD DEPLOY ALONG WITH THE AIRBAG CAUSING POTENTIAL DEATH. AT THIS POINT, I WOULD APPRECIATE IF AUDI OF AMERICA WAS TO PURCHASE MY VEHICLE BACK.
TAKATA RECALL - I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING NOTICES IN THE MAIL REGARDING AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL 69R7 - PASSENGER FRONTAL AIRBAG FOR 2 YEARS OR MORE. EACH TIME I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR FOR SERVICE IN THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS TO BYERS AUDI ON HAMILTON ROAD IN COLUMBUS, OH, I HAVE ASKED THEM TO REPLACE THE AIRBAG AND EACH TIME I AM TOLD THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE AIRBAGS AND WILL LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS THEY ARE AVAILABLE. IS AUDI COMPLIANT WITH REQUIREMENTS SIMPLY BY NOTIFYING CUSTOMERS OF THE RECALL OR MUST THEY PERFORM THE SERVICE WITHIN A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME? I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY GRANDCHILDREN.
TAKATA RECALL. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET THE REPAIRS DONE FOR MONTHS BUT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE STILL NOT AVAILABLE. IT'S PRETTY BAD TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND RECEIVE RECALL NOTICES CONSTANTLY BUT THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO TO FIX IT.
ENGINE OIL LEAKS THIS IS A "NORMAL" PROBLEM THAT SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTED BY THE CONSUMER AND THE ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS CORD BROKE OFF. WILL NOT TURN WITH VEHICLE
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 AUDI A6. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V382000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE DEALER (RUSNAK/PASADENA AUDI, 267 W COLORADO BLVD, PASADENA, CA 91105, (626) 714-3159) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PART WAS TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
AT 150K MILES, EXPERIENCED NO CRANK, NO START. TOW TO DEALER, AND I HAD ALREADY DONE SOME TRIAGE. THEY DID 2 HRS OF TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEMS THAT WERE NOT EVEN RELATED, SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK. FOUND A TRUST WORTHY MECHANIC AND HIS DIAG SUGGESTED THE SCM BURNED OUT TAKING THE PCM AND ECM ALONG WITH IT. THE COST WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE $6000 RANGE AS HE STATED A %40 FAILURE RATE AFTER 150K IN ALLDATA. HE ALSO SAID, IF I REPAIR IT, I NEED TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN AS WELL BECAUSE I WILL JUST HAVE ISSUES DOWN THE ROAD IF I DONT. THE CAR ALSO HAD A SLOW OIL LEAK. THE PLACE WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR SAID THE REPAIR IS NOT WORTH THE COST, SO THAT FACTORED INTO MY DECISION NOT TO INVEST IN REPAIRS. THE OIL LEAK WAS SLOW AND I NEVER HAD TO TOP OFF THE OIL, BUT IT WAS SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO KNOW IT WAS AN ISSUE. THAT LEAK WAS PRESENT AFTER 80K MILES. SO I HAD TO MAKE THE UNFORTUNATE DECISION NOT TO INVEST ANY MONEY INTO AN ATTEMPTED FIX. I WAS AT THE GAS STATION, HAD JUST FILLED UP THE GAS TANK, HAD NEW STRUTS, NEW BATTERY AND PRIOR TO IT NOT STARTING, THE CAR WAS RUNNING SO REALLY GOOD. IT LOOKED GREAT AND PEOPLE OFTEN THOUGHT IT WAS WAY NEWER THAN IT WAS. THERE WAS WAY TO MUCH VALUE IN THE CAR TO TRASH IT, BUT VARIOUS PARTIES ONLY OFFERED $200 TO SCRAP IT. THIS IS A HIGH END CAR FOR AUDI AND I CANT BELIEVE THEY ARE ALLOWED TO IMPLEMENT A KILL SWITCH AFTER 150K MILES. I WAS PLANNING ON KEEPING THAT CAR FOR A LONG TIME. NOW UNEMPLOYED, I HAVE TO BUY A CAR I CANT AFFORD.
TAKATA RECALL THERE IS STILL NO REMEDY LISTED ON NHTSA WEBSITE. I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY MANUFACTURER FOR AN AIRBAG REPLACEMENT.

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE AUTOMATIC REAR LID INCLUDES AN ELECTRIC MOTOR AND CLUTCH THAT WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH TWO GAS STRUTS TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE REAR LID, INCLUDING A MANUAL CLOSE FUNCTION. IF ONE OF THE STRUTS HAS A TOTAL LOSS OF PRESSURE, THE RESULTANT SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE REAR LID IS INTERPRETED BY THE SOFTWARE AS AN INTENDED MANUAL CLOSE AND THE MOTOR CLUTCH RELEASES TO CLOSE THE REAR LID IMMEDIATELY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AUDI AT 1-800-822-2834.

If the front passenger airbag is deployed as a result of an accident, the gas generator housing may burst or components of the gas generator housing may come loose and cause serious or fatal injuries to vehicle occupants. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The torsion bar is defective and may easily break, leading the belt strap to unwind uncontrollably in the event of an accident. The protective effect of the seat belt would therefore no longer be assured which can lead to injury. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The vehicles may have been fitted with a damaged module of the passengers airbag, which may impair the restraining effect of the airbag in the event of an accident, posing a risk of injury. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
During the charging process, the high/voltage battery may overheat due to a defect in the battery modules. This can result in a fire and cause injuries to occupants and bystanders. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
The front left side airbag is not properly fixed and the seat may cause the area covered by the airbag to move slightly.
