The contact owns a 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the contact pressed the accelerator pedal and the steering wheel erroneously turn to the right and the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration causing the driver to loose control of the steering and crash into a highway post. During the crash the driver sustained a concussion do to the air bag deployment and the front passenger sustained a fractured right arm. Both occupants of the vehicle were transported and treated at the hospital. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. IT IS DISGUSTING THAT AUTO MANUFACTURERS DON'T GIVE A SPARE OR RUN FLATS ON A CAR TODAY. I WAS ON I95 WITH MY FAMILY WHEN MY NEW ONE DAY OLD CAR HAD BLOWOUT AT 10PM AT NIGHT. ALFA ROADSIDE TOOK 6 HOURS TO FIND US. THIS IS SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I WAS STUCK SIDE OF THE BLACK DARKEN HIGHWAY WITHOUT SPARE. THE SEMI TRUCK PASSING 12 INCHES AWAY FROM MY CAR DOING 80+ MPH. HOW IS IT IN 2019 MANUFACTURERS CAN SELL A CAR WITHOUT A SPARE OR EVEN FLARES. THE WORST PART ALFA OFFER SPARE AS OPTION BUT SINCE MY CAR CAME WITHOUT IT I CAN'T ORDER A SPARE NO WHERE. ALFA DON'T OFFER TO SENT A SPARE AFTERMARKET. TIRE RACK TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE OR ARE AVAILABLE SPARES THAT FIT MY ALFA STELVIO. A SPARE TIRE KIT WEIGH 20 LBS AND HOW MUCH GAS CAN A PERSON SAVE. I WAS TOLD IT IS MPG THING. I AM IN THE DOGHOUSE WITH MY FAMILY AND I HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER FULL SIZE WHEEL AND TIRE TO USED AS MY SPARE. THE CAR HAS 20 INCH WHEELS AND TAKES UP 1/2 TRUNK SPACE. IF I PUT ON ANOTHER ALFA SMALLER RIM LIKE 18 TO SAVE SPACE I WAS TOLD BY MANUFACTURERS MY WARRANTY IS VOID! I HAVING MY COUSIN IN ITALY SENT ME A DONUT SPARE FOR EMERGENCY. THE SPARE IS FROM ALFA ROMEO STELVIO TI MADE IN ITALY WHEEL THAT HAS SPARES INCLUDED AND SELL AFTERMARKET. THE DEALER SAYS IF I USED I LOSE MY WARRANTY. SAFETY ISSUES BEING STRUCK ON I95 WITHOUT A SPARE. HOW CAN NHTSA MAKE MANUFACTURERS GET AWAY WITH THIS IN 2019. SPARES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY OTHER SAFETY FEATURES
I own a 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio (VIN: [XXX] ) with approximately 102,000 miles. The vehicle recently experienced an electrical issue caused by a failed ground strap — a known problem in these vehicles that is widely reported by other owners. After the vehicle became inoperable, I observed smoke and visible signs of burned or heat-damaged wiring in multiple areas under the hood, including ground wires not located near the main strap and crumbling insulation on the ABS wiring in the front wheel wells. The vehicle was towed to an authorized Alfa Romeo dealership, where the ground strap was replaced. However, the dealer did not inspect or document the other visibly damaged wiring, despite my specific request and description of the safety issue. They claimed the vehicle showed no error codes and was safe to drive. My concern is that the failed ground strap caused additional electrical damage to safety-critical components like the ABS system, which may result in electrical fire, loss of braking, or other failures. Alfa Romeo appears to have updated the design of the replacement ground strap (now rubber-insulated), which suggests they are aware of the issue, but they have not issued a recall or TSB. I am filing this report to document the issue and request that NHTSA investigate. I believe this is a systemic problem that affects vehicle safety, and that Alfa Romeo and its dealerships are failing to address it adequately. Ground wire to starter had corroded and broke into. Wife tried to start the vehicle and saw smoke coming up out of the hood. This caused the main wiring harness to burn and wires to fall apart. The wires run from the front wheels up into the engine bay and throughout vehicle. The vehicle could have caught fire or could have possibly caused the brakes to fail while driving. I contacted Alfa Cares but they would not help cover cost (estimated approximately $9,000). This is not only a safety issue but a non maintenance for the customer issue. This isn’t a scheduled maintenance and is a product failure by the manufacturer. This issue should be a recall for both issues. This also caused all warning lights to come on the dash including steering, ABS, and about four other warning lights. Please consider this issue as a recall as Alfa doesn’t seem to care enough to take care of it and before someone gets hurt. The issue has been noted by an independent repair shop as well as an Alfa Romeo certified mechanic.
AFTER FUELING UP THE FUEL TANK, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND SMOKE BEGAN TO EMIT OUT FROM THE VEHICLE'S HOOD. THE DRIVER WAS NOT ALERTED THERE WAS ANY ISSUE FROM THE VEHICLE'S DASHBOARD INDICATOR/WARNING LIGHTS. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER ON THE HIGHWAY SHOULDER AND THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE UNTIL THE FIRE/POLICE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED ON SCENE. *DT UPDATED 10/22/18*JB
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH BOUND ON THE 605 IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME BROKE AND AS I ENGAGED IN THE BRAKE IT BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AND SPED UP AFTER I ENGAGED THEM. CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO COLLIDE WITH TWO OTHER VEHICLES
My 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio has a safety recall, due to a faulty fuel pump. I have attempted to work with the Alfa Romeo customer support team to try and have my vehicle fixed, but they have not been able to make practical arrangements to have the vehicle serviced. I live in [XXX]. Initially, I was informed that although there were no local Alfa Romeo dealerships in [XXX], there were some partner Jeep Chrysler Dodge dealerships that could handle the repair. However, I was then informed that these dealerships were no longer being compensated from Alfa Romeo, so I would actually need to work with an actual Alfa Romeo dealership. The closest dealership is in [XXX], which is over 400 miles away. I was then told that Alfa Romeo would arrange towing my car to and from the dealership in [XXX]. The parts were ordered and after a few weeks, the parts are now available. However, in the meantime, Alfa Romeo has again changed their policy to provide towing services. I have been informed that they will make an exception and tow my vehicle to the dealership, but then I would be responsible to arrange to pick up the vehicle from the dealership. This would require me to either drive a rental vehicle or purchase a plane ticket at my expense, in order to obtain the vehicle. Alfa Romeo has issued the safety recall, but is not providing a timely or effective option of actually taking care of the repairs without requiring a significant cost to the consumer. The contact owns a 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. I am reporting an authorized manufacturer franchise dealer for actively refusing to remedy a federal safety recall and unlawfully withholding my vehicle. My vehicle is a 2019 Alfa Romeo Stelvio (VIN: [Insert VIN]), which is subject to the active Fuel Pump Safety Recall (NHTSA Campaign 25V586000 / Manufacturer Recall Code 93C). The vehicle has been physically located at Southern Alfa Romeo of Norfolk ([XXX]) for approximately 18 months. The dealership service management has explicitly stated that they will not perform the mandatory safety recall remedy, nor will they release my vehicle to a flatbed towing company, until an unrelated $5,000 civil dispute involving a loaner car is paid out of pocket. By conditioning a federal safety mandate and the physical custody of my vehicle on a separate civil debt, this dealership is violating the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act (49 U.S.C. Chapter 301). The 1.5-year delay also completely violates the federal requirement to provide a safety remedy within a reasonable timeframe. I request federal intervention to force compliance. Car stalled on highway leaving my life at risk and dealer has no date to repair fuel line
The contact owns a 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. While the contact’s wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, another motorist informed the driver that there was smoke coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was immediately parked and failed to restart. The contact was called to the scene and inspected under the hood of the vehicle and discovered smoldering and melted wires. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the chassis-to-engine grounding strap had failed due to corrosion and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer and dealer were made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 54,000.
There is no fix for this. The fuel pump foe the Stelvio is recalled almost a year ago. The engine light comes on and the car is undriveable. I have paid for 2 new fuel pumps and control module (out of pocket) , and the check engine light will come back after a few weeks. The car is basically inoperable and bricked because of this, and Alfa has not resolved it. They should not be allowed to drag a recall out for years while owners suffer, and are in danger. Please hold Alfa Romeo accountable. It just happened again today (7/31/26) while my wife was on the highway. This is after paying thousands and thousands to resolve this whole Alfa Romeo doesn’t do anything to fix it. We are out of options.
