Almost all of this describes the model year, not the individual car. Nothing here can tell you about this vehicle’s mileage, accidents or ownership — no identifier encodes those.
On 11.25.25, my MDX was involved in a multi-car hit and run on highway 101 SB at the Laurel Drive off ramp. The vehicle sustained two points of impact: (1) substantial front/driver side impact (2) rear-passenger side impact. Despite the severity, location of impact and speed of travel at the time of the collision, all airbags deployed except for the driver side curtain airbag. Importantly, at the time of the crash, the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) and associated AcuraWatch driver assist systems were activated. The vehicle’s safety assistance technology was engaged and functioning immediately prior to impact. Considering the above mentioned facts, driver side airbag failing to deploy, raises serious concerns regarding Possible software or signal-processing malfunction or electronic communication between radar/camera systems and the SRS module. The nature and severity of the impact clearly met deployment criteria for the driver side airbag. This failure raises concern that there may be a defect in the SRS system, including but not limited to: Airbag inflator component or propellant issue. Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) crash sensor calibration. SRS control module deployment logic. Crash signal sensors. Event-trigger logic or interconnnect failure. Wiring harness or inflator defect. Whether the system registered steering correction or impact prediction, the failure to deploy increased my risk and resulting injury, as well as compromised the fundamental safety system designed to protect drivers in front-impact crashes.
ON AUGUST 21, 2018 I PULLED INTO A PARKING STALL, AND REALIZED I WAS NOT ALIGNED PROPERLY. I CLICKED ON REVERSE SO THAT I COULD REALIGN WITHIN MY DESIGNATED SPACE, AND THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD JUMPING THE CURB AND HITTING THE BUILDING APPROXIMATELY 4-5 FEET IN FRONT OF ME. BOTH DRIVER SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. $13,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO MY CAR. WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK OF GETTING THIS CAR IS 2017, I'VE HAD MANY ISSUES SUCH AS FAILURE TO START AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT COMING ON RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED AT LEAST 3X TO THE DEALER, FOR WHICH THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 ACURA MDX. WHILE THE LIFTGATE WAS CLOSING REMOTELY, IT FORCEFULLY CLOSED AND STRUCK THE OCCUPANT'S BODY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO LOCAL DEALERS: AUTONATION VOLVO CARS SAN JOSE (4600 STEVENS CREEK BLVD, SAN JOSE, CA 95129, (408) 758-5501) AND HOPKINS ACURA (1555 EL CAMINO REAL, REDWOOD CITY, CA 94063, 888-606-5810) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 9401017. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 15,000.
I was driving home late at night with my family in the car. The car suddenly loss power and the check engine light came on and began flashing. I pulled over and turned the car off and back on. The light went away. I began driving again and after a short while, a bunch of lights popped up on the dashboard and the car began to loose power again and started making weird rattling noises from the engine. Just moments before pulling over again I realized the car was on fire and evasively pulled over and frantically got my sleeping children out of the car and we created distance from the vehicle since it was on fire underneath. We called the fire department and they responded very quickly and put out the fire. We secured a few belongings and the children’s car seats and my brother in law picked us up. The car was towed from the scene. I called the incident into the insurance the next day and filed a claim. After a few days once the adjuster came out, it was determined that the insurance company would not be covering the claim because the cause of the fire was internal engine failure. It had shot a bearing cap through the oil pan and that is what caused the fire. I contacted Honda about the issue and have yet to hear back from them. This was over a month ago. I am now stuck repairing the vehicle on my own since I cannot afford to take the car to the dealer and I am mechanically inclined as it is what I do for a living. The car is currently in my garage and after taking the engine apart, I found that the main bearing for cylinder #6 had failed and in turn fell apart and broken the piston for that cylinder and the broken debris destroyed the engine block and even bent the valves on the from head for that cylinder. I now have to rebuild my entire engine with no warning whatsoever that this was going to happened. The car was maintained on schedule and nothing was ever overlooked or not performed. It was a great car until the engine decided to grandad itself out of nowhere.
I OWN A 2017 ACURA MDX. THE VIN IS [XXX]. ON SUNDAY JANUARY 13, 2019 MY WIFE WAS PULLING INTO OUR DRIVE WAY WHEN SHE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. SHE GOT OUR KIDS OUT OF THE CAR JUST BEFORE THE CAR BURST INTO FLAMES. IT?S AMAZING NO ONE WAS HURT. THE CAR, HOWEVER, IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE FIRE DESTROYED OUR OTHER CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE GARAGE DOOR, THE GUTTERS, WINDOWS, THE FRONT DOOR AND A LARGE PART OF THE ROOF. ALL FOUR TIRES EXPLODED AND FLAMING PIECES OF RUBBER WENT ALL OVER OUR HOME AND DRIVE WAY. THE CAR LEFT AN OIL STAIN ACROSS OUR ENTIRE DRIVEWAY. THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER THE ONE YEAR MANUFACTURE END TO END WARRANTY. THE ONLY SERVICE EVER PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE WAS DONE AT JOHN EAGLE ACURA IN KATY, TEXAS. WE PURCHASED THE SERVICE PACKAGE FROM JOHN EAGLE ACURA WHICH COST ROUGHLY $300.00 AND WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. THE CAR HAD NO WARNINGS AND HAD NO INDICATION OF A SERVICE ENGINE SOON NOTICE. THE CAR WAS REDUCED TO SMOKING RUBBLE. THE CAR IS A PILE OF BROKEN GLASS AND ASHES. THANK YOU. *TR
CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I WAS INSIDE OF THE CAR WITH MY THREE KIDS, MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING, THE CAR STARTED SMOKING, WE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND EVERYBODY RAN OUT OF THE CAR AND THE CAR CAUGHT UP IN FLAMES, WE HEARD AN EXPLOSION, THE POLICE OFFICERS AND FIREFIGHTERS ARRIVED AND THEY STOPPED THE FIRE. THEY FILED A REPORT WITH CITY OF ISSAQUAH #18-09696. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ACURA CUSTOMER RELATION AND THEY DIDN'T WANT TO GO SEE THE CAR AND CHECK WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE. FIREFIGHTER MENTIONED IT COULD HAVE STARTED IN THE ENGINE. FROM MY POINT OF VIEW, THIS WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE CAR'S WARRANTY. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST FOR A COMPENSATION, THE MONEY SPENT ON THE CAR SO FAR.
on January 9, 2024 I was driving this car and was hit on the driver's side of my vehicle , other driver at fault. The driver's side door side curtain airbags appropriately deployed. The door itself was crushed, and I had to be cut out of the car. The malfunction was my seat, the driver's seat of the vehicle. It moved as far forward as possible and I was tightly wedged between the steering wheel and the seat. Even if my door had been possible to open, I would not have been able to escape. I was also not able to drive in that position, so the car remained in active traffic for some time. I believe this is a design/manufacturing defect with regard to that seat and potentially other seats in the vehicle. I write at this time, over a year later, with the concern that this design flaw may be present in other Acura / Honda vehicles. I wrote to Acura at the time but they did not seem very interested.
THE CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED (CPO) 2017 ACURA MDX I PURCHASED ION 07/24/20 FROM DAVIS ACURA IN LANGHORNE, PA SHOULD NOT BE CLASSIFIED AS A CPO! I PAID MY AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP OF 20 YEARS THAT MAINTAINED MY LEXUS SUVS TO DO THEIR OWN 83-POINT DETAILED INSPECTION ON THE ACURA MDX.I WAS SHOCKED IN THEIR REPORTING WHEEL ALIGNMENT NEEDED - RECOMMENDED LEFT REAR TIRE EDGE WEAR & BODY ' EVIDENCE OF PREVIOUS ACCIDENT DAMAGE TO REAR BUMPER, RIGHT FRONT DOOR, LEFT SIDE DOORS, LEFT REAR QUARTER PANEL & LEFT FRONT FENDER. I WAS INFORMED THAT AT LEAST 50% OF SUV HAS BEEN REPAINTED & THERE WAS DIRT UNDERNEATH THE PAINT. WAS THIS FORMERLY LEASED SUV IN AN ACCIDENT THAT WENT UNREPORTED WITH CLEAN CARFAX AND AUTO CHECK REPORTS? THE LEFT DOOR EXTERIOR CHROME DOOR HANDLE WAS ALSO REPLACED BY DEALERSHIP BUT NO REASON IS LISTED AS TO WHY REPLACED. THERE ARE NOW ISSUES WITH: EXPOSED AIRBAG ' IS IT THE ORIGINAL OR WAS IT REPLACED?; TIRE PRESSURE VARIES (+/- 7 OR 8 ) IN THE REAR LEFT TIRE THAT HAS BEEN LOOKED AT BY MY LOCAL ACURA DEALER TWO TIMES IN ONE WEEK & THE 3RD VISIT WILL BE TO REPLACE THE TPMS SENSORS IN A CAR WITH ONLY 16,000 MILES?; THE DEFROSTER IS NOT FULLY WORKING IN THE LEFT PASSENGER WINDOW AND THE MISALIGNMENT OF THE LIFT GATE IS A CONCERN BECAUSE IT PREVENTS THE A/C OR HEAT FROM WORKING EFFECTIVELY IN THE 2ND & 3RD ROW, THERE IS RAIN WATER SITTING ON THE INSIDE OF THE SUV THAT REMAINS FOR HOURS. COULD IT MOLD OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE REAR ELECTRIC LIGHTING COMPONENTS? HOW DOES THE LIFT GATE TRUNK DOOR MISALIGN IF IT WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT? IF THE LIFT GATE TRUNK DOOR IS MISALIGNED, WHY WAS THIS SUV SOLD AS A CPO & NOT USED? I DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE SUV. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALL BACK BY PHONE FROM ACURA DEALERSHIP OWNER IN 4 WEEKS AND/OR FROM THE ACURA CUSTOMER CARE SPECIALIST IN THE LAST 10 DAYS ABOUT MY CASE FILED. CAN NHTSA INSPECT SUV FOR DAMAGE & REPAINTING?
THE 2017 ACURA MDX HAS AN UNINTENDED SUDDEN ACCELERATION FAILURE CONDITION. THIS ANALYSIS PROVIDES EVIDENCE OF THIS ISSUE, AND THE SUBSEQUENT COMMUNICATIONS WITH ACURA CLIENT RELATIONS WHICH ENDED WITH A REFUSAL TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE. THE PURPOSE OF THIS DOCUMENT IS TO PROVIDE DATA AND EVIDENCE IN ORDER TO INFLUENCE ACURA TO INITIATE A ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS; WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF IMPLEMENTING A SOLUTION FOR ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES.
WE WERE TRAVELING ON A THREE-LANE ROAD (CENTER TURN LANE) IN OUR 2017 ACURA MDX GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND FOLLOWING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US AT THE NORMAL 4-CAR LENGTH DISTANCE. THE CAR IN FRONT OF US SIGNALED FOR A RIGHT TURN OFF THE MAIN ROAD AND BEGAN TO SLOW. I APPLIED OUR BRAKES TO SLOW AS WELL. WE WERE STILL AT LEAST 3 CAR LENGTHS BEHIND WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF US TURNED OFF THE MAIN ROAD. I MOVED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE TO ACCELERATE BACK TO THE NORMAL SPEED. THE COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATED, BRINGING OUR VEHICLE TO A SUDDEN STOP IN TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE THAT HAD MADE THE RIGHT TURN WAS COMPLETELY OFF THE MAIN ROAD WHEN OUR BRAKE SYSTEM ACTIVATED. WE WERE REAR-ENDED BY A JEEP WRANGLER TRAVELING AT OR NEAR THE SPEED LIMIT. OUR VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. I WANT TO NOTE THAT THIS WAS NOT A CASE OF US FOLLOWING TOO CLOSELY OR APPROACHING TOO FAST! OUR MDX HAD 9,256 MILES ON IT, AND THERE HAD BEEN NO PRIOR PROBLEMS OR WARNINGS. WE HAD NO IDEA THAT THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE SYSTEM COULD ACTIVATE WITHOUT CAUSE AND BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP!
GOING ABOUT 20 MILES AN HOUR IN TRAFFIC A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AT A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 2 CAR LENGTHS STARTED TO TURN RIGHT INTO A GAS STATION LOT UNEXPECTEDLY. THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM DETECTED A POTENTIAL FOR COLLISION AND WARNED ME. I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SLOWLY ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AS THE SITUATION WAS NOT CRITICAL. THE CRITICAL BRAKE INDICATOR DID NOT GO AWAY, AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY FELT AS THOUGH IT DEPRESSED THE BREAK FULLY AS IF A COLLISION WAS IMMINENT. THE DRIVER BEHIND ME WAS FOLLOWING VERY CLOSE AND COLLIDED WITH ME. THOUGH THE ACCIDENT WAS PROBABLY UNAVOIDABLE, I FEEL THE ACURA OVERESTIMATED THE URGENCY TO STOP GIVEN THE DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND THE SPEED AT WHICH WE WERE MOVING.
The paint on my roof at the sunroof is peeling in the same exact manner the the already existing Warranty Extension: White Diamond Pearl Paint in Service Bulletin 19-029 or Models 2014-2016, I am aware that this Acura MDX is a 2017 02/17 to be exact and from the same MFG of Alabama that these issues are reported. if you look at the example pictures on the service warranty that are EXACT to the issues with the paint on mine. I have the same paint Color listed as NH603-P and I would like this covered as the year previous model.
When making a slow turn or rolling stop, the vehicle hesitates on light throttle and then experiences a sudden, jerky surge when the pedal is pressed further. This is very unsafe and scary for people around at school crossing and highway crossings
Moisture accumulating within the driver side headlight is limiting illumination and safe night driving. Photos compare driver side to passenger side.
On my 2017 Acura MDX SH-AWD with approximately 112,000 miles, the engine experienced a sudden catastrophic failure while I was traveling at highway speed. The vehicle abruptly lost power, the accelerator became unresponsive, smoke came from the vehicle hood and exhaust area, and multiple warning lights illuminated. The failure occurred with no advance warning and created a serious safety risk because I suddenly lost propulsion while traveling approximately 75 mph in highway traffic. An independent repair facility inspected the vehicle and reported that connecting rod/bearing failure resulted in catastrophic engine damage. I was advised that two connecting rods/bearings failed and caused holes in the engine block, with a rod/component also damaging the A/C compressor. Oil subsequently leaked from the damaged engine. Prior to the sudden failure, I did not have warning lights or other indications suggesting an imminent engine failure. The warning lights appeared during or immediately after the loss of power. The vehicle has been inspected by a repair facility and the engine requires replacement. The vehicle/failed components can be made available for inspection upon request. I am particularly concerned because Acura has previously recalled certain vehicles for connecting rod bearing failures that can result in engine damage, stalling, or loss of motive power. My vehicle is the same model year and has experienced an apparently similar catastrophic connecting rod/bearing failure, but my VIN is not currently included in the recall 23V-751. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can evaluate whether the affected population may extend beyond the VINs currently covered in that recall. This is also linked to NHTSA’s new investigation PE25008.
