I had 2 accidents in the same week. First one was Monday 2-20-2023. Leaving work heading home, I was at a red light. The light turned green and the car in front proceeded to go. As I hit the accelerator, my car ran into the back of a car full speed. Every attempt to stop car and was unsuccessful. I called to make appt at dealership to have car inspected. Before I could get to said appt at dealership, a very similar incident happened again 2 days later as I was pulling into parking lot of work. Pulling into parking spot, my car continued to accelerate into the building. Again, attempted to stop but was unsuccessful. I suffered mild concussion from hitting head on steering wheel. Air bags DID NOT deploy. No warning from car until impact happened. Was taken to hospital via ambulance for further examination.
UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT AT STARTUP - POTENTIAL CLUTCH DEFECT On January 17, 2026, at approximately 1:59 PM, I started my 2019 Genesis G70 (manual transmission) while parked in my garage. The vehicle was in Neutral with the parking brake engaged. I depressed the clutch pedal fully before pressing the start button, with no foot on the accelerator. Immediately upon starting, the vehicle lurched backward at significant speed without any driver input to accelerator, gear shift, or parking brake release. I attempted to stop the motion by pressing the brake pedal firmly but the vehicle continued moving. The vehicle struck the garage door frame (bending the driver's door backward), nearly pinning my [XXX] son between the door and garage structure. The car continued across my driveway, struck my neighbor's parked Lexus RX 350, then crashed into the neighbor's garage door and siding. RELEVANT PRIOR HISTORY: - February 7, 2025: Genesis authorized clutch/transmission repair at Rick Case Genesis dealership - February 27, 2025: Dealership stated car was ready, but upon arrival, technician could not release vehicle because it would "not shift gears" or "move" - March 5, 2025: Vehicle released; clutch engagement point was unusually high - December 2025: Clutch pedal required full depression to shift reliably - January 2026: Difficulty shifting in cold weather unless car was warmed up POST-INCIDENT OBSERVATIONS: - Clutch engagement point was on the floor (abnormally low) - No dashboard warning lights appeared before or during incident - Backup camera did not activate - EDR data (downloaded by Genesis March 5, 2026) confirms 0% accelerator pedal and 0% engine throttle throughout the event INJURIES: Minor (skin abrasion to my toe). My son was nearly pinned but not injured. PROPERTY DAMAGE: My vehicle (door/frame), neighbor's vehicle, neighbor's garage door and siding. MANUFACTURER RESPONSE: Genesis Case XXX opened. I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MONTHS. DURING THIS TIME, I HAVE BEEN IN TWO MAJOR ACCIDENTS. THE FIRST INCIDENT INVOLVED AN 18 WHEELER ON A HOUSTON FREEWAY THAT SIDESWIPED THE PASSENGER SIDE FROM THE FRONT TO THE REAR RIM, WHICH EXPLODED AND I WAS TURNED THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND TRAVELED ACROSS 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC. APPROXIMATELY $12K IN DAMAGE WITH NO SIDE CURTAIN DEPLOYMENT. THIS WAS BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION WITH NO FOLLOW-UP. THE 2ND INCIDENT WAS IN DECEMBER AND I HIT A DEER RUNNING ACROSS THE ROAD. IT WAS A SQUARE HIT WITH ME GOING FROM 65 TO 0 AND THE DEER RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CAR. AS OF TODAY, THE DAMAGE IS ALL LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, AND AGAIN, NO AIR BAG DEPLOYED, WITH A TOTAL REPAIR BILL OF $13.8K. THIS TIME I CONTACTED GENESIS AS THE CAR DIDN'T SEEM SAFE. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE MANAGER, WHO HAD THE BODY SHOP STOP ALL REPAIRS. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD TAKE AT LEAST 6 WEEKS BEFORE AN INVESTIGATION COULD BE COMPLETED. DURING THIS TIME, I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION. I WASN'T EVEN OFFERED A LOANER. I HAVE NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT, EVEN AFTER BEING CHARGED FOR TWO TYPES OF WARRANTIES AND WHEN I TRIED TO USE IT, I WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T EXIST. NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO EXPLAIN THE $9K CHARGE ON THE BILL OF SALE, WHICH WAS TO BE THE CHARGE FOR THE TWO WARRANTIES. IF THE CAR'S SAFETY FEATURES DON'T WORK, I CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR.
CRASHED INTO MY GARAGE WALL AT SLOW SPEEDS. I PULLED INTO THE GARAGE RIDING THE BREAK PEDAL (NO ACCELERATION/GAS) AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE BREAKS SEEMED TO GIVE OUT COMPLETELY. EVEN AS I SHOVED THE BREAK PEDAL TO THE FLOOR IT SEEMED TO DO NOTHING. WHEN IT HAPPENED, I DID FEEL A BIT OF A RUMBLE ON THE BREAK PEDAL LIKE WHEN ABS TURNS ON.
ON 8/8/2020 I DROVE MY GENESIS G70 SPORT INTO MY HOME GARAGE DOORS AND CENTER SUPPORT BETWEEN THE TWO DOORS. IT WAS SLOW SPEED. I WATCHED AS MY CAR CONTINUED FORWARD WITH MY FOOT HARD ON THE BRAKE WITH NO BRAKING ACTION AT ALL. IT WAS A 100% BRAKE FAILURE. I HAVE NEVER PUT ANY VEHICLE INTO ANY OTHER VEHICLE OR ANY STRUCTURE IN MY 55 YEARS OF DRIVING. I HOLD A CDL. I WAS CERTIFIED BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE EXCELLENCE IN AUTOMOTIVE BRAKING SYSTEMS IN 1976. I WAS SELLING BMWS IN THE MID 80S WHEN BOSCH DEVELOPED ABS. I WAS SELLING ACURAS IN 1987 WHEN HONDA MADE A LAME ATTEMPT AT THEIR OWN PROPRIETARY ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. I KNEW THE FIRST TIME I TESTED IT THAT IT WAS SUBPAR. AUTO MAGAZINES CONFIRMED THIS IN THEIR TESTS. I UNDERSTAND CARS. I HAVE NO AGENDA AGAINST HYUNDAI. MY LAST FIVE AUTO PURCHASES HAVE BEEN HYUNDAI PRODUCTS. MY GENESIS G70 IS THE FINEST CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. BUT IT HAS A POTENTIALLY FATAL PRODUCT FLAW. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF TESTING, I DISCOVERED THE PARAMETERS NECESSARY TO ESSENTIALLY TURN OFF THE BRAKES, INTERRUPT THE FLOW OF BRAKE FLUID BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKE PADS. I CAN NOW DUPLICATE THIS FAILURE WITH REGULARITY. AND I DO NOT THINK MY CAR IS UNIQUE. I BELIEVE I CAN REPLICATE THIS 100% FAILURE ON ANY G70, AND I WOULD LIKE TO TRY. GENESIS KNOWS THIS, REQUESTED THAT I SEND THEM A MASS OF DOCUMENTATION FOR MY CASE #17257270, WHICH I DID ON 8/30/2020. THREE EMAILS FROM HYUNDAI CONFIRMED RECEIPT OF EVERYTHING THEY REQUESTED. NICOLETTE COMPTON WITH HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA SAID THEY WOULD SEND AN ENGINEER/TECHNICIAN TO MY HOUSE SO I COULD DEMONSTRATE THE DEFECT. SINCE THEN SHE HAS IGNORED MY PHONE CALLS AND HAS HAD NO CONTACT WITH ME EXCEPT ON 9/9/2020 AT 6:02 PACIFIC TIME WHEN SHE ACCIDENTALLY PICKED UP MY FIFTH CALL TO HER, AND SAID SHE WAS JUST ABOUT TO CALL ME. HYUNDAI IS IGNORING ME.
AT AROUND 8:45 A.M. ON JAN. 19, 2020, I LEFT MY HOUSE, DROVE TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE SUBDIVISION, AND TURNED LEFT ONTO THE CITY STREET. BECAUSE OF THE BAD WEATHER IN EARLIER HOURS, I KNEW THAT THE ROAD WAS RATHER ICY. SO I WAS EXTRA CAUTIOUS AND ESTIMATE MY SPEED WAS AROUND 25 MPH (POSTED SPEED LIMIT IS 40 MPH). JUST ABOUT 0.1 MILE FROM ENTERING THE CITY STREET, I SAW THAT THE STREET LIGHT ABOUT 100 YARDS AHEAD OF ME WAS RED. I TURNED MY SIGNAL TO GO INTO THE RIGHT LANE (STREET HAD BECOME 2 LANES VS ONE LANE AT THAT POINT) WHILE STARTING TO GENTLY PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL TO FURTHER DECELERATE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR SEEMED TO DO ITS OWN THING, SLIDING AND TURNING ALMOST 90 DEGREES AND HITTING THE SNOW BANK ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE STREET, CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR (PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE OF $3,743 WHICH MAY GO HIGHER). WHEN I STARTED DECELERATING, MY SPEED MUST HAVE BEEN AROUND 25 MPH. ALTHOUGH I DON'T KNOW THE SPEED AT THE POINT OF IMPACT, IT MUST HAVE BEEN RATHER LOW SINCE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF AND I DID NOT GET ANY WHIPLASH. OF COURSE, I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT. HERE IS WHAT I BELIEVE HAPPENED: THIS CAR HAS A STRANGE-FEELING BRAKE. IF YOU PUSH GENTLY ON IT, AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS IT BRAKES HARDER AND INDEED JERKS THE OCCUPANTS BEFORE STOPPING. I KNEW THIS IRRITATING THING FOR A WHILE SINCE I HAD OWNED THE CAR SINCE THE SPRING OF 2019, BUT NEVER THOUGHT THAT IT COULD BECOME A HAZARD. I BELIEVE WHEN I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE GENTLY ON THE ROAD, IT STARTED BRAKING HARDER AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL ON THE RATHER ICY ROAD. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ESC SYSTEM COMES INTO PLAY AS WELL OR NOT, BUT I AM CONFIDENT ABOUT HOW THE BRAKE ACTS. THIS BRAKING CONDITION IN MY CAR HAS BEEN VERIFIED BY ANOTHER DRIVER AND I AM OPEN TO FURTHER VERIFICATION. I AM NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS CAR.
Vehicle received recall 023G (TSB 24-01-076G) on 4/30/2025 at 42,910 miles for P0088 fuel rail pressure issue, involving ECU update to high-pressure fuel pump control logic. No codes were present at that time and no physical inspection of the pump was performed — only a code scan. Vehicle had no check engine light prior to this recall. On 9/16/2026 at 46,471 miles, P0088 code returned, diagnosed at an independent repair shop. Concerned the recall fix did not address the underlying defect
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing starting issues. Additionally, while driving 15-20 MPH and coming to a stop, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power. The vehicle was turned off and restarted and was able to drive to the intended destination. The contact stated that the failure recurred and progressively worsened. While researching the failure online, the contact discovered that the failure was a common issue. The vehicle was initially taken to the dealer, where an unknown software update was performed, and the check engine warning light illuminated during the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump had failed and needed to be replaced; however, it was determined that the failure was not covered under warranty because a specific DTC indicating that the fuel mixture was too rich was not retrieved. The manufacturer, Genesis, was notified of the failure by phone, filed a case, and scheduled a service appointment with a dealer for the contact. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
I own a 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T Twin-Turbo V6, VIN [XXX], with approximately 122,000 miles. Twice within approximately two weeks, the vehicle has suddenly and unexpectedly experienced a near-total loss of propulsion while being driven. Without warning, the engine begins shaking and sputtering severely, the Check Engine Light illuminates, and the vehicle provides almost no usable acceleration. The engine does not completely stall but operates barely above a stalled condition. After safely stopping, turning the vehicle off, and restarting it, normal engine operation and full power immediately return and the Check Engine Light extinguishes. The vehicle may then operate normally for days before the condition occurs again without warning. This creates a serious safety hazard because the failure could occur while traveling at highway speeds, merging, changing lanes, or crossing traffic. A sudden near-total loss of propulsion under those circumstances could result in a serious or fatal collision. I have found reports from other Genesis G70 owners describing substantially similar intermittent loss-of-power conditions that temporarily resolve after an ignition restart. Genesis has also issued safety recalls involving G70 powertrain-related conditions, including NHTSA Campaigns 24V-528 and 24V-191. I have formally notified Genesis Motor America in writing and requested immediate investigation and repair. I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA has an independent record of this recurring and potentially dangerous loss-of-propulsion condition and can determine whether it represents a broader safety defect affecting Genesis G70 vehicles. I had the known reported issue TSB 25-BE-004G repaired and even after repair there is a burning wire smell that the dealer claims they can’t replicate. We had the same issue with Genesis Plano initially and after driving the vehicle out of state we were stranded and took it to Genesis of Peoria where the issue was diagnosed. We are encountering the issue again and it is a fire risk hazard.
Vehicle is currently disabled due to Open Recall Campaign #262/023G (NHTSA Recall Number 24V528000) for High-Pressure Fuel Pump Failure. On 05/19/2026, the vehicle suffered total loss of drive power at highway speeds (Hwy 16/211), creating an immediate hazard. The manufacturer failed to provide a timely remedy, initially misdirecting me to a dealer unable to service the model. Genesis and the local dealer now refuse to provide a courtesy tow to an authorized facility, despite the vehicle being disabled by their own safety defect. The vehicle has been stranded and unrepaired for over a month. This leaves my son at risk, as he must walk along dangerous highways during Extreme Heat Advisories while managing a spinal injury. The impact of being without a reliable, functioning vehicle at this address is not merely an inconvenience—it is a critical safety issue. We reside in a remote area where even emergency responders (EMS) have been unable to locate our entrance when responding to a recent medical emergency involving a hiatal hernia. Being without a vehicle that can reliably transport us or navigate to a main road is not a sustainable or safe position, and by refusing to remedy this recall defect, Genesis is directly contributing to this hazardous environment. I have explained this entire situation with Genesis Escalation without a resolution The safety hazard is compounded by the lack of local transportation. My son has been forced to walk along the shoulder of Highway 16 to get to work. He was recently stopped by a Texas Highway Patrol officer who checked his ID and expressed significant concern for his safety, warning him of the extreme danger of walking on that highway shoulder. While no citation was issued—as the officer recognized this is his only way to get to work—the incident confirms that the location is objectively unsafe for pedestrians.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated that upon advising a friend that the turbocharger oil feed pipe was made of plastic, the contact was informed that there was a recall related to the issue. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was confirmed that another dealer had marked NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V191000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); as completed even though the recall repair was not performed on the vehicle. The dealer and the district engineers inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the recall repair was not performed. The dealer notified the manufacturer of the issue and sent supporting pictures to the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer denied coverage after receiving several claims from the dealer. The dealer then advised the contact to report the issue to the NHTSA Hotline because the vehicle was at risk of catching on fire. The contact had not yet experienced a failure.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the audiovisual navigation screen displayed a blank screen. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The failure was persistent, and the audiovisual navigation screen was peeling and distorted. The contact was willing to pay out of pocket for the repair; however, parts were not available by any vendors. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact stated that several complaints were filed. The contact stated that coverage for the repair was denied. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
Driver and passenger seats recline back but do not come forward. Passengers cannot use seat belts
I have contacted Genesis multiple times about finding an authorized repair center to complete the recall there are none in my city or state they keep telling me that their site is down and that they will call me back but they still have not it's been two weeks I've called multiple times and have no resolution to the recall on my g70 On the website it says Hyundai dealerships should be able to fix the recall both Hyundai dealerships in Albuquerque Larry h Miller have refused to do the recall saying that they can't do it I've been told this is a pretty dangerous situation and my car can catch fire and neither the Genesis manufacturer or the Hyundai dealerships are willing to help me at all I did not buy it from a Hyundai dealership I bought it from Rich Ford as one of those certified used cars.
